After searching high and low for a dermatologist that had an appointment that was not months away, I called Dr. Hwang's office. The receptionist gave me an appointment for the same day. This gave me such joy because I was having some type of severe allergic reaction that was happening on my face. NOT a good look at all. I never had problems with my skin before, so I was kirking out! I know people were looking at me like, "I wonder what kind of disease she's walking around with". My face looked like I had the measles. I arrived early to fill out the necessary new patient insurance information. The receptionists were very nice and professional. Dr. Hwang's assistant called me in the office 15 minutes later and asked me a couple of questions and then the Dr. came in. Dr. Hwang looked at my face and told me that I had some type of reaction going on in my body that resulted in this severe overnight acne. He wrote me a prescription and gave me a coupon (even though I didn't need it with my insurance), and sent me on my way. I am happy to report that the medicine worked immediately. I plan on visiting my allergist next week to find out what other allergies I have developed that caused this problem. I am so happy that I found Dr. Hwang. read more

It's still soon, so I must say I can't confirm if his diagnose is correct. I can only speak on the office visit. The office looks like you walked into a clinic in Eastern Europe. The reception staff isn't the most professional. The lady in the front was eating while taking my payment. I'm talk a full on meal, not a snack. The overbooked patients for the one doctor. I had about a 1/2 hour wait to see the doctor aside from the 15 minutes that I showed up early. The one bathroom in the office was so dirty. It looked like a rest stop bathroom and the hot water doesn't work. I mean, you turn it on and nothing happens. That's nasty! I'm in a doctor's office, a dermatologist at that, which means a few people have something skin related that's probably contagious. I know for sure, if they went to the bathroom, they did not wash their hands properly. That is nasty! Now, to the 3rd world patient's room. While walking down the hall to the room that I'll be examined in, the doctor was preforming a removal of something on this topless hairy guy's back. Why am I seeing this! Is there no discretion and respect for their patient's in this office. The door was wide open and they kept it that way during the whole procedure. I've never experienced anything like that from a doctor's office. Now to my examination. It was the shortest exam ever. I felt rushed or like I was bothering him asking too many questions. Don't get me wrong, he's nice and maybe his 2 minute diagnosis without touching or taking a skin sample is correct. Maybe he's just that good. But, I was not and am not convinced, solely off of the time I had already spent in his office. In conclusion, God willing, I will not return. Even if his diagnosis is correct. I won't return based off of the poorly managed office that gives me the impression that they don't have any respect for their patients. read more

I glad that I found a dermatologist in Woodbridge that takes my insurance and was able to give me an appointment without having to wait months in advance. Dr. Hwang seems to be a nice doctor and I was pleasantly surprised how professional he was. He was able to explain - clearly - what I was concerned about my skin and treated a spot with liquid nitrogen, which took care of the issue. He also suggested that I have an annual exam, which I plan to do with him next year. I was also amazed how friendly and helpful the staff was here. If you reside in the Woodbridge area and need a good dermatologist, he is worth a visit. read more

Dr. Hwang treated my husband and I on numerous occasions. We appreciate his expertise and efficiency when he removed a cancerous mole from my neck and a cancerous lesion from my husbands hand. In addition, he was very thorough when he examined both of us for potential cancerous moles. He removed another mole from my husbands forehead and we were pleased that it was not cancerous. I have been to this doctor a few times. The doctor is very friendly, and probably knows a few things about the skin... But, my last visit was very unprofessional. The doctor came into the room and upon viewing my mole stated out loud with the door open and others to hear.. "That's skin cancer! That's skin cancer!" I had the mole removed and sent to the lab, which days later confirmed it was NOT cancer, just a harmless mole. Now, I was surprised that he said this without any testing or lab work to confirm... I happen to know it was NOT cancer because it was just a mole that I injured and was bleeding a bit. Also, this same doctor had examined the same mole a year ago and told me it was not anything to worry about and I do not even need to have it removed. read more

Dr. Hwang has been my dermatologist for over a decade. My family lived in Hawaii when I was in elementary school. I was constantly out in the sun. I spent weekend days on my surfboard, and every weekend I would get a sunburn, despite having a deep tan. We moved to Virginia in time for me to go to middle school. I mowed yards shirtless in the summer sun for spending money every morning, and I whiled away the afternoons at the neighborhood swimming pool. I went on to live a year on a boat in the tropics after college. When I had my own family, vacations were always at a beach or on a sailboat. With my history in the sun I realized that I needed an annual checkup for my skin. I asked around, and the same name came up every time, Dr. Hwang. I've found some suspicious moles from time to time between annual checkups. The staff gets me in for an appointment right away. So far, they have been false alarms. So far, I have been cancer free. There have been some benign, UGLY moles that annoyed me. Dr. Hwang was happy to freeze them off at my request. I'll be seeing Dr. Hwang next Tuesday. I'm hoping for a good checkup. If there is a problem, I have total confidence that Dr. Hwang will take care of it right away. read more

Both my daughter and my husband went to him for different reasons. He practically guessed at my daughters skin issue. In the end, although our insurances covered all but the co-pay, he still billed us as opposed to billing the insurance for the remaining balance after the co-pay. It wasnt until later that we realized this. He did this to both me and my husband (we have different insurances). read more

Dr Hwang is a superb dermatologist. He is always courteous and professional. I've read other reviews by Mireya C and Erin A, and I've concluded they have confused Dr Hwang with some other doctor. This office all around is AWFUL. Don't waste your precious time!! I completely agree with Mireya C.'s previous review of this office. My experience with this office has been horrible and unprofessional. I had an appointment one week ago today. Originally the appointment was scheduled for over a week out, which after a few days I called back and told them I couldn't wait any longer and needed to be seen that day or had to go somewhere else to be seen. They scheduled me that day (which is great, but not sure why I couldn't have been scheduled sooner the first time I called). I had called in the morning to get the appointment and someone from the office called me back a couple hours later to confirm my appointment. Yes, obviously I am coming considering I just called a couple hours ago to get in (this was my first clue that there was a communication issue with the office admin). I verified my appointment time and she said it was a different time than what the admin specialist had told me in the morning. She rudely replied with, "well we're not even open at that time." I felt her attitude was unnecessary, and I later confirmed that they actually were open at the time I thought my appointment was set for, so perhaps the staff should brush up on their office hours. Anyways, I went to my appointment and walked into the very small waiting room (where you undoubtedly will be spending quite some time). My first impression of the office left nothing to be desired. Small, stuffy, old office furniture, lots of people waiting in almost every chair, and 2 unprofessional office staff. I waited, and waited, and waited until I was finally called back... oh, only to wait some more in the exam room. The exam rooms are ancient looking and very untidy for medical standards. I recall a loose bottle of some medicine or anesthesia sitting open on the table when I walked in. Not very safe considering anyone could have tampered with or taken it at any time. Nothing looked prepared or laid out for the doctor like you would typically expect to see in an exam room. I probably waited again for a solid 25 minutes before the doctor came in. The tech did ask me a couple questions, but was not very professional and cared more about telling me about her children than listening to or notating the reasons why I was there. I noticed that there was a huge rack of magazines and figured it was to occupy patients so they didn't complain about the excessively long wait times due to overbooking. The doctor finally came in and I could barely understand him. He doesn't speak very good English and didn't seem to want to answer my questions. I felt like he rushed the entire appointment. He completely missed one of the reasons why I was there, until I reminded him about it. I think it was because he didn't read any of the notes the tech took, or perhaps the tech didn't write them down... regardless of the reason, a FAIL. He asked me to pull up my shirt to show him the rash on my torso and the DOOR WAS WIDE OPEN. He realized and quickly shut the door as if he was in such a rush to just get my appointment over with. I asked him a few questions, and of the responses I could understand, he acted almost defensive and laughed at me as if I was a moron for trying to understand. Then he had to numb me for a biopsy and in the meantime saw one or two other patients, so I... waited... some... more. He came back about 20 minutes or so later, all the while I could hear the entire conversation of the appointment next door. The lack of respect for patients in this office is APPALLING! After he stitched up my arm from the biopsy, he told me to come back for a walk in appointment 7-10 days later and I could expect results the following week. Well, today (7 days later) I went in to get my stitch out (I mean the fact that they want to charge me to come in to snip one little stitch is ridiculous, but ok). The office was PACKED of course and my results had not yet come in. Same unprofessional office staff. The staff told me they could not take out my stitch because I had not waited 2 weeks. I told them the doctor told me to come back in 7-10 days. Again, another office communication issue. Because this office completely overbooks appointments, I was going to have to wait until the patients who were there waiting could be seen. I do not want to guess how long that would have taken. I'm guessing hours. I left. I'm still skeptical of this doctor's diagnosis, and I have no idea how this office has gotten away with such horrible miscommunication and unprofessionalism. It is truly baffling. All I know is that I will NOT be going back and will strongly recommend anyone I know to save their time and NOT go to this office. I drove 2 hours to take my son to a very nice dermatologists office in Maryland just so that I did not have to endure the painful experience of going back to this office and can say that it was worth the drive. read more

I called in and was given an appointment on the same day. I arrived on time and there was one person ahead of me. Soon after a person showed up for his appointment late and was told he was late. He apologized. Then a lady came in for her appointment. I was called back after about 40 mins and placed in a room with the door closed. I assumed the doctor was in the room with the patient before me. He came out into the hall and took another patient. After that patient he came into the hall and said "who's next?" and called my name and said my room number. Not sure what the lady at the front desk told him, but he took another patient (found out later it was the "late person"). So I'm waiting by now I have been there an hour at least. So I come out of my room to see what's taking so long and all of the patients that were in the waiting room are now gone. So I mentioned that and the "lady" told me they "were all in rooms". At that time the "late person" shows up in the hallway-coming out of one of the rooms. I said I know I was here before him. (Yes I was getting ready to ask for my copay and leave!). So I decided to go in and see the doctor since I considered my visit very important. He apologized several times and took the blame but I really don't think he is to blame.... I won't be going back to this office again. I've worked for a prominent insurance company for many years and this isn't good business. I arrived at 4:15 and left out at 5:50.. Patients beware! I had an age spot frozen off a few months ago by Dr. Hwang (non-cancerous, cosmetic reasons only) and now the spot has turned into a dark ring with no pigmentation left in the center. There is also an indentation in the skin due to freezing off too many layers of skin. Instead of removing an age spot, it literally looks like someone put a cigarette out on my face! When I confronted Dr. Hwang and his treatment method (eight seconds of freezing) he admitted that he froze the area too long and that the results were permanent. He apologized for "failing to meet my expectations" and did not charge me for the follow-up consultation (gee thanks Dr. Hwang). read more

$100 down the drain... about 4 days prior and on had some reaction/peeling over a old scar from a mole removal on my face from 15+ years ago, i was a bit worried as i was due to go on a cruise in about a week and a half and was worried due to mole/scar and sun exposure: 1)his assistant spent time 'consulting' with me, and she didnt listen either, spent more time looking at my iphone buzzing in my hand than listening to me explain my issue and wondered why im getting it looked at after 15 years (did i not just explain it happened that week) 2)the dr himself took less than 5 minutes looking at me, didnt LISTEN at all, (asked why i hadnt had that problem looked at in 15years) then told me i needed a biopsy (biopsy what? the mole had been gone and i had a scar for years) then gave me a Rx for a $35 cortizone cream (which i never filled) (im concluding i had a ingrown hair or pimple occured in exact place)as it healed nicely with normal facial washing and some neosporin applied in hot shower. scar back to normal pink & no issues now i know why i was able to get an appt in 1 day....speed doctoring. Dr Hwang and his staff are one of the best doctor offices in the area he takes time to explain my conditions to me and even worked with me to get an affordable medication that was covered by my insurance. They even fit me in for an emergency appointment the same day! read more

Dr. Hwang was very knowledgeable and kind. However, I was extremely turned off at the way he saw patient after patient without washing his hands &/or using gloves.
