Mine took a year and a bone stimulator . That's just the way I heal and I knew this from a previous fusion C5,6-6,7 ... my body is different in that bone grafts typically take longer to heal . Dr. Shapiro put me at ease when he introduced and said , "please call me Gary" I was raised to respect doctors and generally speak to them as "Doctor" After all 10 years of school warrants respect , right? I don't think , Dr. Shapiro has had to wait this long for a fusion to heal, but he let me make all my own choices , such as a bone stimulator in lieu of more surgery ... he was also generous with his time when he saw me .. my fusion has since healed and now I am ready to do the strengthening work to get back to work ...Thank you , Dr. Shapiro !! I would definitely recommend this surgeon for serious back surgery ... you are in good hands ! Carrie Cozzi

As 2022…read morecomes to a close we have so many things to be grateful for. 2022 was a very tough year for my wife and I in so many ways. She had many health issues that required hospitalization on 3 or 4 occasions. The main cause was diverticulitis & UTI's that kept reoccurring & causing severe infection & pain. It became apparent that the diverticulitis wasn't going to just go away. As is the case during her last hospitalization there were so many interns, residents, doctors & specialists that came to see my wife in the process of determining the issues & what the best course of action would be. It's very frustrating having everyone & everything coming into her room. All the specialists urologists, radiologists, infection control doctors & colon surgeons (Dr Park). Dr Park is a very knowledgeable, likable & personable doctor that took the time to explain what needed to be done to prevent the continuing bouts w/diverticulitis. He said surgery should be done to prevent these reoccurring bouts. He performed the surgery back in November of 2022 & as of this date April 12 2023 there haven't been any reoccurring bouts with my wife's diverticulitis. Thank you Dr Park for a great job. We are both very grateful that things have returned to normal.

He was in pain, uncomfortable and barely sleeping during the night. Our vet refused to operate because of the size and the location of the tumor. The doh also has a heart murmur, which would make a surgery more complicated. He sent us home with painkillers telling us to keep him comfortable for the short amount of time he has left. I brought him to another vet who said the same thing. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Kotev. I brought the dog to him. Dr Kotev did the surgery couple of days later. He did phenomenal work. It's been 3 months now, and I have the happiest and healthiest dog ever! No pain, no discomfort, and he is more energetic and happier than ever! Dr. Kotev, your kindness, knowledge and surgical skills are greatly appreciated! From all my heart - thank you!

Despite the less than ideal circumstances that led me to IBJI Ortho Access on a Thursday afternoon,…read morethe silver lining was a positive experience. My knees hurt for weeks and weren't getting better, even after some anti-inflammatories and rest, so it wasn't terribly surprising when I heard a loud cracking noise as I was trying to sit down on a yoga mat. I couldn't straighten my leg or put weight on it, and a visit to Ortho Access was my next move. I was able to schedule an appointment for about an hour later. I was seen right away, and Dr. Skjong couldn't have been nicer (or funnier - he offered to let me punch him in the face when he assessed my knee. I did not take him up on that offer). He referred me for an MRI, and called me himself with the results. He patiently talked through options for addressing the absolutely disgusting mess that was the connective tissue in my knee, and made a quick referral for me to physical therapy. Five weeks later, I was back to running, cycling, lifting and -- yes -- even successfully sitting down on a yoga mat. My only complaint was that the check-in process was a little long for someone on crutches who couldn't bear any weight but needed to sign things. It seems like having a seated check-in option would be good (tablet or something similar?) given the nature of the clinic and the work they do.

When I began to explain my issue, he rudely cut me off and said "I don't want to hear any history. You have a hernia." Dr. Khorsand proceeded to check me and verified that I needed surgery. When I began to ask about the surgery, he told me to make another appointment. He spent a total of 4-1/2 minutes with me that day. I made a second appointment but then began to search out the subject. Almost every doctor now does the surgery laproscopically, a minimally invasive way without any major incisions or scarring. I call back Dr. Khorsand's office and asked if he did the surgery laproscopically. The assistant told me that she would ask the doctor and call me back. She did, but her answer was that he would talk about it at our next meeting, a very vague un-answer that should have only been a simple 'yes' or 'no'. I cancelled the next appointment. As a further note, Dr. Khorsand's bio indicates that he has been practicing for 51 years. That makes him around 80 years old. While I don't have an issue with age (I am 77), perhaps he might not be up to newer technology and procedures and is more comfortable with the old ways. Follow-up: I found another doctor at another local hospital that has great reviews for hernia surgery. I visited him and he was friendly and caring, and he spent all the time that I needed, asking me if I had questions. A wonderful change. In addition, this new doctor discovered that I also had a smaller hernia on my other side, something that Dr. Khorsand didn't even check for. I agreed to the suggestion to repair both at the same time, and his assistants sat with me to explain everything, giving me papers with the follow-up. They were also very pleasant. The surgery is scheduled and I'm ready to go with just one visit and a feeling of confidence in my new doctor.
