Two days ago I needed an emergency tooth extraction. Keep in mind, I am terrified of the dentist and have NO pain tolerance at all. Dr. Martin was AMAZING!! He reassured me, was very patient, and made sure I was totally numb before he got to work -- and he removed the tooth in about a minute! Also, kudos to his assistant Mel, who kept me distracted with chitchat and was very sweet. I have always been afraid of seeing a dentist, but Dr. Martin is VERY good and I won't be (as) scared when I go back. Highly recommend!! read more

I have been a patient at this office for several years and had many cleanings and a few minor procedures. Normally very professional until today... I received a collections letter from a debt collector in the amount of $56.00. threatening legal action if not paid. Surprised and slightly aggravated by this (I never received a bill) I went into the office this morning and inquired what the bill was originally for and to pay it. The women at the front desk immediately became defensive citing the letters they had sent previously (to the wrong address I had moved 2 years prior) and three phone calls. When I asked what the original bill was for neither could tell me because the "billing lady" is not in today. The only thing they knew was that the original bill was for $30. I am assuming it was for missing a cleaning appoint but I may never know. They admitted that they had received returned bills but in the two years I went in for cleanings since I moved no one ever asked for an updated address. Kinda sucks because I really liked my hygienist there. On principle I will never use this office again because I don't deal with business that sell personal information to debt collectors for $30 instead of sending an email or leaving a voice mail. I have pretty severe dental anxiety after a traumatic experience with a scummy dentist years ago. On top of that, I find the noises (drills, scraping, etc) and sensations (gross tastes, gritty toothpastes, discomfort and occasionally pain) associated with dental work overstimulating. We move around frequently for my husband's job, and finding a new practice I'm comfortable with after every move is stressful. This, however, is the best dental clinic I've ever been to. They are busy but also very good about scheduling you quickly for an appointment between your cleanings if you have an emergency. For example, I called them at 3 this afternoon to ask if something going on with my jaw is a big deal, and the lady scheduled me for an appointment first thing tomorrow morning. They've done this for me before when a temporary crown came out. I appreciate how they do their best to get you in right away when you're experiencing discomfort or pain. I have been here many times, and I like all the staff that has worked with me so far. Ashley is the best hygienist I've ever had. She has made me feel comfortable to the point I don't really stress before a cleaning anymore. She has a quiet, confident demeanor, and she is friendly and funny. I appreciate that she talks to me like I'm an adult when I'm feeling anxious or overwhelmed. She's never adopted that loud, overly cheerful voice some people use, like they're placating a cranky toddler. She's calm and matter of fact, and I find that so reassuring. She works gently yet efficiently, checks in to ask if I'm ok, offers to give me a quick break, tells me each step of the procedure ahead of time, and doesn't mind explaining again if my mind was racing the first time Ashley truly cares about the state of your teeth. She will tell you if you didn't brush or floss as well as you think you did. Not in a rude or mean way and not to make you feel bad either, but to teach you how to better care for your luxury bones. You can't improve if no one shows you how to do it properly. Ashley will also celebrate your excellent brushing and flossing habits the next time you come in (if you happen to be the type to brag about flossing and brushing every night ). She'll also brag on you to the dentist. How awesome is that?! I've seen both dentists, and I like them both. They don't make me feel silly for asking questions and answer them all thoroughly. Dr. Cottrell did my root canal and crown. He explained what to expect ahead of time, but I was still STRESSED. Of course, it was totally fine and painless. Dr. Martin listened to my complaint about extreme tooth sensitivity and prescribed a fluoride toothpaste that has really made a difference. In a nutshell, I'm a huge fan of this office. Everyone I've interacted with has made caring for my teeth more pleasant and therefore more of a priority in my daily life. I'm so thankful for everyone here. read more

Friendly & welcoming - the hygienist (I don't remember her first name) and Dr. Cottrell had me laughing during my visit which many cannot say about a visit to the dentist. They were very knowledgeable and explained what was being done, what findings meant, and the next steps that were needed. I've always enjoyed the dentist for cleanings and haven't had a bad experience except for the last two times at a different practice, which really had me upset and worried about future care. I had a great experience the last few times I've gone there. The entire staff was very friendly and professional. They seemed like they actually enjoyed working there. Dr. Cottrel was excellent and friendly too. Seems like their systems a fairly efficient as I was processed and seen quickly. I went to get my wisdom teeth removed, a cleaning , and the initial checkup. All three were good experiences, which is not always the case with the dentist. read more

Let me first say that I hadn't been to the dentist in about 5 years... due to a lot of reasons. One of them being that I tend to pass out when I get medical/dental procedures done, including shots for numbing. I had found Dr. Cottrell online as I was seeking a dentist locally who could accept my insurance and perform the necessary tasks for an overseas screening. I took my kids with me to get their cleanings done and the staff was friendly, thorough, and overall did an excellent job! For my cleaning appointment, the hygienist was also friendly and kind, and she was non-judgmental when I told her how long it had been since I was at a dentist! She cleaned me up and was so sweet. I met Dr. Cottrell then and we had to schedule an appointment for a filling that had fallen out. The appointment was a week later and I ended up feeling quite light-headed after the procedure. Everyone handled the situation completely professionally, was kind and helpful, and so comforting. They gave me an ice pack, water, had me lay down, and also gave me Gatorade and a donut (yes, I got a donut at my dentist's office!) when the staff asked if I had eaten breakfast before coming (nope ‍). But what really, really put things over-the-top was the fact that Dr. Cottrell came to check on me personally, multiple times, while I was recovering. He then later called me from what I am assuming is a non-office number, later that night after hours. It was so sweet and thoughtful- you can tell he really cares about his patients and their well-being. In addition to checking in on me, he gave me some helpful tips for any future procedures I might need. I'm so glad I found him and his office. Thank you to all staff for your kindness! read more

Dr. Cottrell himself, and his front office staff are great. An associate dentist, Dr. Martin and dental hygienist Angie are not. I was given too much nitrious oxide during my dental procedure and it made me quite sick. Dr. Martin made fun of me for using the nitrious, saying "Oh, we have a "gasser" here, huh? He proceeded to thrust my head way back (abnormally far) so that he could do a quick check of the work done. The hygienist was very rough and hurried, especially towards the end of the procedure. I did not feel like a valued patient at all; I felt insulted, sick, and treated badly. read more

We have been patients since 1999. We were due for our 6 month exam but we told the staff neither one of us wanted X-rays as we are retired and did not have insurance. The staff member told us that the doctors might require xrays but she would call us back. Three business days later and two days before our scheduled appt the office called and said xrays were mandatory because they were part of preventative care. They would not see us if we did not have the xrays. I cancelled the appts. Since when do we not have control of our own health? Cleaning teeth is preventative but I guess not enough that one has to submit to xrays. The office has sure changed since 1999 for the worse. Such a shame. We just scheduled with another dentist. read more

They tell me I have a cracked tooth and 3 cavities. It's 6 months later today and I have no teeth issues, no pain whatsoever. Shame on this company. They put pain on my tooth to make it seem like I had a cracked tooth. They are the nicest people, obviously so they can take my money. read more

My sons and I have been going to this office for over 20 years. However after the incorrect insurance information given to me by the staff, I will no longer use this dentist office. My youngest son (age 17) went to Cottrell's office due to a broken retainer; he went alone. The office called me saying they wanted to put a permanent retainer in his mouth and it would be paid by insurance leaving me to owe around $120. I agreed. I have been fighting them for about 2 years because they now say insurance did NOT cover it and I'm responsible for the entire amount which was around $400!!! My son and I were both taken advantage of by giving us false information and him being a minor. I would give zero stars if I could!!! After talking with friends who no longer use Cottrell, they have had similar experiences. Do NOT use this dentist, you will be ripped off and lied to!!! read more

I have been with Dr. Cottrell and associates even before there were associates. I would say that I have been a patient of his for over 20 years. And what happened to me should have NEVER happened to a loyal patient - heck - it should have never happened to anyone. I arrived at Dr. Cottrell's office with a tooth ache. My tooth was cracked. It had been cracked for some time, but never really bothered me, and like most people, I put off getting a root canal. Well I knew that one that day, a root canal was in my immediate future, or so I thought. Dr. Martin arrived in my room and examined my tooth, and confirmed to me that indeed I needed a root canal. He then left my room and someone from "Finance" came in with paperwork and informed me that it would costs $1,500 for the procedure. I don't know about you, but I don't have that kind of money just lying around. I told the lady that I had $500 and could get the rest of the money within the month. She said, "Sorry, you will need to pay up front for the services or we will not be able to do it". I just looked at her and said, I have been with this dental office for over 20 years - surely, that is cause for letting me get the money to them in a months' time. But she said, no, you will need to pay the bill before services can be rendered. I was floored. After all these years of coming here - all they wanted was my money. I can't tell you how abused I felt. I began to cry and the "finance" lady just walked out of the room. Dr. Martin came back in the room and said that he would love to fix my tooth, but that he had no say in the matter. The only thing he could do was to charge me $100 and have my tooth extracted. I cried the entire time he was pulling the tooth. Neither he nor his assistance said a word to me. As I walked out of that office for the last time - all the workers were looking at me like I was some sort of low life person that they had never even met. Dr. Cottrell moto is "Cottrell Smiles" - this is only partially true - he only "Smiles" when you give him your money. I will never go back to that practice again, and warn all faithful patients of his to be careful - you will get the boot too if you don't have the money to pay on the spot! read more

We've been going here for almost 3 years and every time it's been a fantastic experience! Everyone is friendly, professional, and each appointment has gone well with no problems or concerns. My kids have had cleanings, cavities, teeth extractions for long roots, and more, and it's all gone well. No problems with payments or insurance. The staff, technicians, and dentists go out of their way to make my kids feel comfortable, safe, and informed. We'll keep going here and recommending this dental practice to others. I have been going to the King George office of Dr. Cottrell's for over 5 years now and I have been very pleased with all aspects of the service during that time. The front office staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The same can be said of the hygienists. They are great about explaining options and procedures, and always gentle during cleanings. I have seen 4 dentists in the last 15 years and Dr. Cottrell and Dr. Martin are by far the best. They are courteous and professional, always willing to explain a procedure and clearly state all of the options and risks. Every time either my husband or I make an appt w Dr C, Dr J ends up seeing us. IMO, she is not very qualified especially for people w a lot of expensive dental work. She worked on my teeth.. then when I complained about a tooth hitting.. she said well I am not going to adjust every tooth in your mouth.. IMO, If you mess it up, you dress it up! Then she admitted to me she wasn't qualified to work on my mouth. My husband made an appt recently with Dr. C and after his cleaning, Dr. J showed up. She recommended 2000 dollars worth of work for someone who has never had a cavity..... definitely will go somewhere else to get a second opinion. We feel like it was a waste of $$. Since we had to go somewhere else. Also, for the specialty procedures make sure they are board certified... Mostly they are not. Yet they charge board certified prices. And, we don't appreciate the bait and switch. We feel like we got taken advantage of. read more

Much like another review, I received a collections letter without ever receiving a bill. My wife and kids have been in and out of the dental office throughout the year and was never notified about an outstanding balance until a collections letter. I called trying to pay the bill at the office, but was unable to do so. Eventually needed to go to the office and was required to pay the collections balance prior to. I was advised to do so and call back and then they would be able to schedule my wife. Once bill was paid, I called the office back and was told we could no longer be seen at the office. All over a several small outstanding balances that we were never informed about. We really enjoyed the office and the staff. We ended up frustrated and upset with the lack of communication with the billing department. We were even willing to forgive and forget on our end. Not so forgiving over there. Be careful! read more
