Alexandria, VA - I've been seeing Dr Lu for Invisalign for 6 months so it's time for a review. Upon entering, I'm always greeted immediately by smiling receptionists. The waiting area is modern and comfortable with light pop music playing. There's coffee and water available which is probably more for parents bringing their kid patients here. Speaking of waiting- I've never waited more than 5 minutes. Appointments run on time and I appreciate that. All the staff is super helpful and friendly. I appreciate they take the time to ensure I am comfortable and i always learn something new about teeth whenever I visit from the kind dental assistants. Dr. Lu is quick and efficient as well. He's a soft talker so sometimes I miss hearing his requests to open or shut or whatever. Additionally I would really prefer if he sat me up in the chair before giving me the lowdown on how things are going. The receptionists are great at finding appointments that fit with my schedule. They send an immediate email with the appointment information. And a couple days before I receive a text message reminder too. Overall I am pleased with the care I am receiving. My teeth are looking better than ever and I appreciate this clean and efficient orthodontic practice. read more

This month marks 8 years our family has been with Dr. Lu and crew. My last one is almost out of braces and we will miss this great place! When we first arrived after a surprise move (Go Army!) with records in hand, Dr. Lu had no issue taking over our son's care and it ended up being cheaper and in less time than we were previously quoted before we moved here. He also began monitoring my two 8 year olds' teeth. One was a more challenging case but Dr. Lu patiently handled it with different appliances when his OTC recommendations didn't work for my determined child. :) The other child, who has some special needs and clinical phobias (including the dentist) was sensitive to her fears and, when we discovered the tools' noises were upsetting, was incredibly patient and able to slow the tool down to make lower frequency noises. We've had the pleasure of watching Dr. Lu's practice grow from a couple of treatment chairs and a few staff to a room full of treatment chairs and a large, but personable staff. Never had an issue with insurances and payments. His business staff is very knowledgeable and patient as you try to navigate your insurance. His staff is always very friendly and they seem to enjoy working there. Being able to text them has been such an asset! It's nice to be able to send a picture to ensure rubber bands are placed correctly or to show what has popped out of place to know if it needs immediate attention. They clearly do a lot to create a welcoming environment from iPads and movies for the kids in the waiting room to coffee, water and free wifi (you can work while you wait!) for the adults. There is always a fun little game or activity going on like flat Lu, guessing games or fun drawings. Also, his support of the community around him doesn't go unnoticed! Pro tip: If you can't keep your appointment, you have to be patient for a reschedule. Have your school calendar and work calendars on hand so you don't have to cancel. Bonus: his consultations are free. This made it easier to price compare and he came out on top for our family every time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

This review is more than two years in the making. First Impression Orthdontics (FIO) is probably the best orthodontist and business I have worked with. Having been told since the age of eight that I needed braces, I am glad I took the plunge 20 years after the fact with them. My dentist had originally recommended another orthodontist office in Falls Church. After waiting for an hour to see the doctor and dodging the wild children in their waiting room, I decided not to go with that particular orthodontist. The entire process from initial evaluation and the day they put on your braces, to the day they deband you, is a guided process and the staff at FIO is available at all hours of the day to answer all the concerns and questions that come with wearing braces. I've had to call and ask how to wear my rubber bands and come in and get wires cut because they were poking my gums. The staff were more than accommodating, even if it was a weekend. Dr. Lu is amazing despite having to juggle many responsibilities at one time and always remembers your treatment and interactions. Each staff member is personable and friendly. The personal touches they put forth to their customers such as toothbrushes/floss for brushing, having lip balm available, a bottle of champagne to celebrate the end of treatment... just tells you how much they care about customer service. I went on a payment plan which spread payments out over 18 months and I was never charged interest. I'm glad that FIO offered a convenient payment plan and they are not knit picky over overselling you services or material. It has been amazing seeing FIO grow in the last two years I have been receiving treatment from them. Small things like hiring extra hygenists and adding chairs in the waiting room are hallmarks of how successful they have been. read more

Is it possible to love having an orthodontic appointment this much? Dr. Lu and staff are the greatest. This is my second time in braces and I must have had a thousand questions but Dr. Lu took his time to go over my treatment and exchange a couple jokes. A few days and a thousand more questions later, I was in braces! But I must sing praises to Justin and Bridget who are always the first faces I see coming in. Recently I needed to come in because of a wire poking. I frantically called Justin thinking I wouldn't be seen for a few days- his response? "Can you come today?" Amazing customer service. Bridget helped schedule me in an appointment and before I knew it I was back at First Impressions to have some scans done for my Invisalign trays after my consultation! The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. Dr. Lu was nice enough, but he wasn't as personable as other dentists/orthodontists I've encountered. After examining my mouth, he recommended a fairly drastic procedure to me, but minutes later, he retracted that recommendation. He just seemed to make the recommendation hastily without much forethought, which was a little alarming to me. Dr. Lu has a bad habit of canceling/rescheduling appointments days before the actual appointment. The excuse is that it's for a conference, but conferences don't pop up overnight. If it is truly a "conference" then he would've known about it for months and should have the decency to let patients know well in advance. I have experienced this on multiple occasions dealing with this office. Other cons: I've gotten better work done at other offices. I've seen better work from other orthodontists. Dr. Lu rushes the job leaving glue and sharp edges. His breath smells like coffee and it's nauseating. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because there are some pluses. The office is newer and clean. It's in a good location. Most of the staff is friendly. However, there isn't a major benefit to going here. The cost is the same I have been quoted elsewhere. At least elsewhere, the office respects your time and doesn't arbitrarily cancel your appointments whenever they feel like it. read more

We took our son to Dr. Lu (seriously we called on Monday and they got him Tuesday). We were amazed at how quickly they got us in, the office was clean, in a nice area and not crowded! NEXT on to the big piece of it the cost. Dr. Lu quoted me $3,000 less than any dentist ever has for our son. Our son is borderline needing surgery to fix his jaw and then braces for his teeth. Not only does he have a plan to straighten teeth but the plan will eliminate the need for surgery AND Walter Reed had their orthodontist review the plan and have told us to proceed because the plan was so well planned out! They also offer interest-free payment plans. You pay 15% at banding then even payments for the remainder of treatment time. read more
