I have enjoyed my experience under Dr. Larson's care. I find Dr. Larson to be a compassionate Orthodontist who listens, is thoughtful in his response and his treatment plan. He takes the time to hear my concerns and explain what he recommends and why. He gives appropriate eye contact and makes me feel like he has all the time I need to address my concerns. His office is bright, clean, neat, inviting and interactive. He has considered patients of all ages and the parents who may spend time in his waiting room. His staff is friendly and welcoming. I feel appreciated and like a member of the family. I highly recommend Dr. Larson particularly to patients who have not had positive experiences and/or are nervous about the process. read more

I see that they removed my first review. No problem, I'll just post it again. I have never felt compelled to write a yelp review before, but I want to spare others the experience I had. If you are absolutely certain that this office takes your insurance, or if you are planning to pay out of pocket for your treatment, this place is probably fine. However, if you aren't sure if they accept your insurance, be aware that they will not tell you whether or not they do until AFTER your consultation, for which they will charge you a $135 consultation fee "for the doctor's time," regardless. This is true even if you have filled out all of your paperwork two weeks ahead of time and specifically asked the front desk about your insurance. So, if you enjoy being cheated out of money, by all means proceed! read more

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!!! Do not be fooled by the nice decor in the office!!! There is a reason it's so nice because they will screw you over on the "official" cost of their services. I provided them my insurance information and was quoted one amount. I paid the "out of pocket" amount that was agreed upon only to receive ANOTHER bill stating my insurance didn't pay as much as they should have! Come to find out, Larson Orthodontics was "out of network" for GEHA! If I had known that, I would NEVER gone to them. On top of everything else, the receptionist,Laurie, would give me the worst appointments for a working person only to find out that the kids were getting the more desirable appointments, which is first thing in the morning. Every time I had to go in for more trays, I would leave mad as a hornet! The office is lucky to receive one star! read more

My experience w/ Dr Larsons office was less than stellar. I went in for the initial consult for my daughter as I was referred by her dentist. The appointment went well... the treatment coordinator was great with my daughter. However, it got to the part of explaining and things went downhill. First, they didn't have my daughter's pano from the dentist (who is a major referrer) we we sat there for 15-20 minutes waiting for that to come through by email. It never did. I asked the treatment coordinator and Dr Larson why they didn't have it set up that if someone was referred in from a major referrer they would automatically send over the pano? He explained that not all administrative staff are technically competent enough to handle such a task. I basically looked at him like he was crazy but it was here nor there, they told me they would have it by the next appointment where we get our treatment plan. Sounds good. Well, then we got into the next appointment and it got confusing. The treatment coordinator was unclear about the process required. She ended up offering to send me a breakdown of the plan via email and I told her that would be very helpful. I made the next appointment. A few weeks later, my referring dentist's office called me and asked if I had gone in for my ortho appt yet (yes, I had) and if I was happy or if I was interested in seeing a different orthodonist (I said it went fine and that I had a follow up appt w/ Dr Larson a few weeks from then)... They said great thanks, hung up... life went on. So, the day of her second appointment, where she was scheduled to get impressions and more x-rays, I got an email a few hours before it letting me know the next few steps and that there would be a 395$ records fee. I emailed them back and told them I didn't appreciate the email a few hours prior to the appointment and wanted to know if my insurance would cover any of the records fee. About an hour and a half later, I got a call from Dr Larson. Dr Larson stated that he didn't feel our first appointment went well and that he was surprised I had scheduled to come in for a follow up. I told him I had no doubt in his abilities to treat my daughter. He continued to talk about how he had called Dr Austin to make sure I didn't want a second opinion. Interesting, because I hadn't even got his opinion yet (that doesn't happen until appointment #3). I let him know that I was disappointed that the treatment coordinator told me she would email me that day (of the 1st appt) that she would email me the next few steps) and that I didn't get them until today. He said "well I told her to wait because I didn't think you would come back". He continued to tell me that he felt like his office had dropped the ball with me too many times and thought I should go get a second opinion. After much debating with me about how he thinks I feel, I told him I would take him up on his offer to get a second opinion. WOW! Apparently that is how you run a business now-a-days. So, if you go see Dr Larson's office in Alexandria, make sure you don't question any of his processes. I wouldn't recommend it. This whole processes wasted two months. read more

I was new to Dr. Larson's practice and he came highly recommended by my dentist so I was surprised by Neka's comments and expected they were exaggerated, but I found they were not. I have a visibly missing tooth in the front side of my mouth. I don't smile or talk much because of this. My first visit, I was essentially told Dr. Larson wanted to see a smile which would show this missing tooth, I was horrified. My second visit, I was at the front desk, my normal demeanor and was told by the treatment coordinator, "remember what Dr. Larson said about seeing your smile" as if I was a 5 year old child. I was beyond embarrassed. I was taken back for xrays and was not offered any kind of protection against the radiation, just asked if I was pregnant, while the person taking the xrays went behind a wall. While she was doing the xrays, I was old to put my teeth in a crevice in a metal piece and the technician tried to turn my head. I had to explain the way my head was being forced was causing pain in my teeth, she turned around and walked away. My most recent visit I was told I would be given the cost of services. I sat down and they wanted to show me a 3d imaging of how my teeth would look afterward. Frankly I don't care. I asked for the cost first. When I was given the cost, I asked questions about how long the prices were good for and said thank you and explained I could not financially go forward until the first of the year. I was told new molds would need to be taken and I said that was fine. They asked if I wanted to see the 3d imaging and I said no thank you. There was no need to waste their time further. I got to my office and talked to a co-worker who explained about financing. I applied and was approved and called the office to discuss how to move forward. I was told by the person who answered the phone that she did not know how to use carecredit and the office manager was too busy to help me, I would receive a call back by 4 p.m. I gave my office phone number as I cannot take calls on my cell phone at work and hung up. The next day around 11 I called the office again and was told how busy the office is again and I would receive a call back. I again hung up. I called again at 2 pm and the office manager answered. I was again told they were too busy to help me and I would receive a call back. I explained I am going out of town and need to take care of this. I asked how long it would take to get the invisalign in and was told it would be 2 weeks. I told her not to bother calling back before 4 because it was no longer a rush if it's going to take that long. Not even 20 minutes later I had a message on my cell phone (which I could not answer) saying to call back. I did. I was then informed I was not "a good fit" for the practice and that Dr. Larson had called my dentist to tell her this. According to the office manager, my dentist was told I repeatedly was rude. I hung up on the staff. I was not taking the process seriously and that I needed to be referred elsewhere. Dr. Larson also removed my previously replaced bottom retainer and I was told I would have one to wear at night, but I was never given one so now I have no retainer and I am out $400 after a year of Dr. Larson and my dentist supposedly discussing my case at their study-group. I definitely would not recommend this office. read more

I am impressed with the care and concern for my individual needs by Dr. Larson and his staff. At age 66, I had to lose a molar and then decide if I should have an implant. Within a few months, while deciding, my teeth shifted, and then I needed braces to open the space up for an implant. As a retiree on a fixed income, I was very upset about handling the cost of braces, implant and then a crown. Dr. Larson was very considerate about this and was able to plan a treatment that worked with my budget. He used the Invisalign method, which opened the space within four months. During that time, Dr. Larson kept a close watch on my progress through regular check-ups. His staff was always helpful with any adjustments or information that I needed. It is always wonderful to to find a medical practice in Northern Virginia that smiles when you walk in and knows your name. read more

Our fourth child just finished her braces regiment with Dr Larson. We have known him and his staff for about 15 years (yes he was a young doctor then!) and cannot say enough about the care we have received. This daughter actually looked forward to her visits, based on all her memories in the office with her older siblings. Not that she enjoyed the braces or other appliances that were needed! Bottom line is all have beautiful smiles and healthy teeth/bites that will serve them for life. Aside from technical expertise, I have always appreciated how Dr Larson treats the kids as the primary patients with control over their care, speaking directly to them in language they understand rather than looking over them and talking to me. Achieving that kind of "buy in" with the kids goes a long way to ensuring success with an often uncomfortable process. read more

Extremely positive experience with both care and billing for a retainer/night guard. Dr. Larson does what it takes to get things right, from efficient sign-in and brushing stations to modern equipment and kid-friendly decor. He even sent out to a new lab for a do-over when he wasn't satisfied with the work. Highly recommend. read more

I would highly recommended choosing a different orthodontist in the Northern Virginia area. So my son got the top row of his braces on May 2015 and Dr Larson said it would be an 18 month process which was expected. We continued to make monthly appointments and all seemed to be going well. We saw Dr Larson every month for the exception of one this summer. We come in during a September 2016 appointment and Dr Larson tells us we have not seen him since November of 2015 which obviously came as a surprise since we knew we've been coming in every month since my son got his braces on, so Dr Larson claims we've only made 5 months of progress over a 17 month period, meaning we apparently lost an entire year which I think is completely ludicrous. We also paid for all these appointments where we apparently "didn't see him" which is also throwing gasoline on the fire. A lot of other people I've talked to who have experienced business with him agree with me in that they regret their treatment with him. Please go somewhere else, it might save you a lot of money and time read more

Apparently, you have to call a separate office in order to stop payment from coming out of our account. I am just finding this out today after all the corresponding back and forth since Jan 5, 2017. The number they give me no one picks up, you have to leave a message. Absolutely ridiculous, and I am calling it fraud. You had no problem in signing me up at the office for the payment plan for my daughters braces. I am finding how truly stupid this place is: First, they do not call you, they only email. Second they make it almost impossible to stop a payment plan. If you have plenty of patience, go right head you might can deal with them. read more

He will over charge you if he doesn't like you. His work is sloppy and he is undedicated at this point in his career. His clinic staff are so rushed that they don't pay attention to the small details so your child will have broken brackets and poking wires, which means that you have to take more time out of your day to get this resolved. Do your research before going to practice. I worked in office during the time of the other 1 star reviews (2017) and I can attest they yes, they are telling the truth. read more

I don't normally do this, but I highly recommend Larson Orthodontics. Not only is the treatment great, but the staff is phenomenal. It feels like a 4 star experience going through the whole process, I am highly impressed by the service. Plus the swag they give is insane. Or as my daughter says, "it's the bomb.com". My experience with Dr. Larson's office has been very mixed. On the one hand, I think that Dr. Larson is very skilled at what he does. He knows his craft and is really quite obsessive about getting the best results for his patients. I appreciate that. You can even see his attention to detail in his office decor -- everything is in place for a reason, and Dr. Larson is involved in all decorating decisions! On the other hand, the office staff is really frustrating to work with. The insurance co-ordinator has a skill of turning the most basic concept into something totally incomprehensible. When I'd ask for clarification, she would get defensive and rude. I felt like our conversations were more like bickering with a sibling than between a client and someone who works in customer service. After a few of these conversations, I really dreaded calling the office or seeing her during my visits. The other issue I had with the office is how they would withhold information. I had to move part way through my treatment, and although I had told them about this before my treatment even started, they absolutely refused to give me any indication of how much I'd be charged by their office for their portion of the service (I had exact dates and only needed a ball park, based on the assumption that nothing major would come up during my treatment). I get that it's sometime difficult to estimate these things ahead of time, and I was absolutely not looking for an exact amount. But, I really worried that I'd be double charged (first by Dr. Larson for his part of the treatment and then by the new orthodontist after my move). When I received my final bill, it wasn't clear where the amounts came from. When I inquired, the office manager sent a really clear explanation, which was actually based on a formula that seemed totally fair and appropriate. Now, why couldn't this be shared with me before or during the treatment? It's a mystery. The office also likes to keep their patients in suspense about how much time they have left on their treatment. When I picked up my Invisalign packs, the number of total weeks of treatment would be erased by Dr. Larson's staff. Like somehow having this information would make it difficult for a patient to imagine that other follow-up treatment may be required. After moving to the new orthodontist, we had a good laugh about this practice. The first appointment was a bit of an unveiling...oh, I have a total of 57 week of treatment! Phew, I was afraid I'd be wearing these things for ten years. read more

Our son is a relatively new patient of Dr. Larson. Having just gotten braces in September, today was his first adjustment. As a child on the autism spectrum, our son was *extremely* anxious, completely terrified of the process of changing the wire. Dr. Larson and his assistant, Erica, were EXCEPTIONALLY patient with him and worked with him (and us!) to help our son get past his anxiety and fear, step by step, to get through his adjustment. I am sure that it took much longer than our appointment time, but our son was able to get through it and he felt so proud of himself! Success on all fronts! We are so grateful for the kindness and patience exhibited by the whole team!!! Thank you for your exemplary professionalism and support during a very difficult appointment. I know the next time our son goes for an adjustment, he will feel good about himself and good about going through the process because of the experience he had today. read more

I went to Dr. Larson circa 2007 and he was great throughout my braces treatment. However, in 2013 one of the posts in my permanent retainer came loose and I left a couple of messages on his voicemail saying that I needed the post repaired. I never received a call back. Luckily, my dentist was able to repair it. A couple of weeks ago, the part of the wire in my permanent retainer broke in one place. This time I went on his website to make an appointment and still have not heard back from them. I'm very disappointed with this unprofessional behavior. I'm not sure why they are not returning my calls. I paid all my bills the first time. LOL read more

We were recommended by our dentist to see Dr Larson for a consult about our six year old daughter. She was a bit nervous about starting braces, as was I. Dr Larson and his amazing staff put us at ease from the second we walked through the door. The office is immaculate, gorgeous and state of the art. So so clean and professional- I cannot stress this enough. The staff is all smiles all the time and not patronizing smiles either, but totally genuine greatness. They explained everything perfectly and had gorgeous graphics to show us the course of treatment. I love love love Dr Larson's whole practice and so does my daughter. I could not be happier. Much more pleasant experience with new receptionist. Doctor Larson himself has always been great!

I only wish there were negative stars... We used Dr Larson as he was recommended by our dentist and he was close and convenient. The evaluative visits were great, he was kind and understanding and he even age-progressed a photo of my daughter with her severe overbite fixed and all I could think was "I can't wait!" Fast forward 3 years, she gets her braces and boom!, the gloves come off. Dr Larson is brusque and his staff is not only unkind, but also not very concerned about privacy as after each visit they would come to the waiting room to give me and my daughter an update on her progress, including what she has done wrong -- be it incomplete hygiene or broken brackets -- in front of every other parent and child waiting there. My poor child grew to hate her visits, sometimes working herself up so much that she got physically ill. So I wrote an email about my concerns, specifically that we would prefer any updates, good or bad, to be done in private, and received a reply that Dr Larson would like to visit with me to talk about what they could do for us. I was thrilled to have my concerns taken so seriously. When I showed up, I was ushered into an office and he was sitting there with two envelopes, one a dismissal "agreement" and one a check for my remaining balance. We were fired! He insisted on removing my child's braces by the end of the week and sent us on our way. I was stunned and upset. I re-read my original email a number of times to make sure it wasn't insulting or could be taken the wrong way. It wasn't. I've now met other parents who have had their concerns dealt with the same way--one mom was screamed at by the receptionist for a missed appointment and she was dismissed after she complained about her treatment on Facebook. Be warned. Don't complain, don't upset the apple cart, don't need any special treatment of any sort, because you risk being sent packing before your treatment is complete. read more

Dr. Larson is a fantastic orthodontist. My health insurance with the company that I worked for paid for adult orthodontics, so I decided to get braces. I had visited one other doctor in Annandale with whose attitude I was extremely displeased. I chose Dr. Larson and went for the consultation. He had just moved into his new offices, which are bright, clean, and inviting. I had a very difficult case, but when my braces were finally removed, I had teeth I was proud to show off. My teeth have never been really great looking (shape, color, etc), but he did resolve the crookedness and the double-stacked issue. I highly recommend this doctor! read more

Let's see where do I begin! Dr. Larson is one of the BEST if not the BEST orthodontist in our area. From the first time I walked into his office until the time I finished my treatment it has been the best experience that I could ever asked for. Let me tell you more about my story. I am 39 years old and have always had crooked teeth. My family was very poor growing up, so braces was out of the question. I battled for years with the appearance of my smile until I found Dr. Larson. I went to three different orthro's in my area (22315 VA) and when I found Dr. Larson I knew I was in good hands from the first minute I talked to him. He had some really big challenges with my 30+ year old smokers teeth and he was more than happy to get me the smile that I have always wanted. The technology that he offers in his office is state of the art with 3D imaging, Invisalign and the Damon system braces. The Damon system braces are the ones I received. My teeth were to jacked up for Invisalign. lol! For those of you that don't know about the Damon system braces I will give you in short why they are better than traditional braces. First... less treatment time, second...cost and Third they are little more aesthetically pleasing. My cost was around $6000.00 total and payments were around $195.00 a month. I put about $1000.00 down payment. Your treatment time will vary. Mine was about 18 months. Now keep in mind your cost will vary with your down payment, monthly payments and any other cost that is needed for treatment, but once he gives you a price for your treatment and sign a contract that is all you pay from the beginning to the end. His in house financing is very easy with no credit check or interest added and he will work with you depending on your financial needs. I did loose my retainer once and it cost me something like 250.00 bucks (ouch!), but totally was my fault and I expected to pay them for it. Dr. Larson is part mind reader, magician and a perfectionist. He will never be satisfied until you are completely satisfied with your smile. He listened to me and my concerns every step of the way. The day I got my braces off I heard this statement for the first time in 39 years "WOW YOU HAVE A NICE SMILE!" It gave me confidence and made me feel good about myself and my smile. I am certain that you will too once you visit Dr. Larson and his wonderful staff. They even threw me and mini celebration, gave me a bottle of wine and clapped for me the day I got my braces off. In conclusion stop looking at those crooked teeth and go see Dr. Larson! It will be one of the best decisions that you will ever make concerning your teeth.
