Trying to understanding the rules, proper procedures, and sorting through all the paperwork (integrating this with the medical aspect) made it seemingly imperative to hire an attorney who knew how to navigate through the undulating process. We hired Mr. Clark, referred to us by a friend. Either deliberate or work-style, he was horrible at communicating: always delayed and late responding to email and phone calls. After 4 years of appeals and enduring the Social Security Benefits Disabilities application process, he helped my mom FINALLY procure her disability benefits as a 'disabled citizen'... ...which sounds nice n' dandy EXCEPT for the fact that my mom was supposed to be considered a disabled widow. The difference from being a 'disabled widow' to just a 'disabled citizen' title was nearly $500. I didn't find this out until I went to the SSA office on my own! I left numerous messages and sent emails asking him to correct this situation, given that this was his job since we hired him. I haven't heard from him in nearly 8 months! Essentially, Clark was awarded $5K for helping us secure benefits. In this case, my mother received the incorrect amount and he was STILL paid from her benefits. How messed up is this?! Final Call: *I gave Clark two stars only because he was in court with us to at least procure the incorrect amount - I mean, I guess this is better than nothing? *I was disappointed in him because I thought he was a nice guy - he didn't follow-up even after acknowledging that my mother was awarded the incorrect amount!
