I've used the Geek Squad in the past and they've charged me 3-4 times his rate (Geek Squad is a total rip off). After an hour, he removed my spyware and fixed a couple other items on my computer too. I took my HP desktop computer in because my cursor kept freezing. Rich diagnosed the problem overnight and discovered part of my operating system was corrupted. He re-installed the operating system and it now works fine. My only complaint is that he did not fully understand that I use Outlook for my e-mail so my address book and all my e-mail folders were completely lost. Perhaps I should have been clearer and I thought I was, but Rich may not have heard me. So be sure Rich writes all the software that you want saved. this is from a long time ago.. didnt realize I didn't post it.. I purchased a yelp coupon and read all the great reviews about his service. a little taken back at his shop being inside a gas station but hey, whatever works. my laptop kept over-heating and would shut down, he said it was the hard drive and I would need another one. ok, whatever works. He installed a new hard drive and said he had gave it a thorough check-up. picked up my lappie and soon after I got home, it started to over-heat again - same problem before I went in and paid $200 for a new hard drive/labor, I took it back to him, and he said he would check again, it's my fan, this time. ok.. said he installed a new one and ran a stress-test on it. "everything works great, it didnt over-heat" ok... got my lappie back, worked for a minute.. but guess what? it over-heated and shut down again, can't really tell if the fan is working.. it also seems my battery might not work the best as after charging all day, it will run out of power 5 minutes into it.. if a stress-test was done, wouldn't the battery have been tested, too? ok... well it doesnt work and which is unfortunate.. I just purchased a new laptop because obviously mine is not working despite the new hard drive, fan and stress-test.. He is a nice guy and I am sure he knows what he is doing (see all the positive comments) but for me.. my experience was less than positive since my lappie still has the same problem he claimed to have fixed.. read more

I had Richard come to my house to help me with extending my wireless connection. He seemed nice, spent about 20-30 minutes, plugged in an extender and asked for $160. I thought it was kind of high but he emphasized that he guarantees his work and would come back out if there were any problems and refund my money if it didn't work. I called several times in the next week because the extender wasn't working. He had more suggestions that entailed more money which I opted out of at the time. He readily SUGGESTED, OFFERED and AGREED to refund my money. We set up an appointment to make the exchange and he never showed, never called, didn't return phone calls. Richard lacks the ethics and maturity to run a business of his own. Beware of his satisfaction guaranteed and refund policy. I rarely post on yelp but think people need to know. read more

I had a lapse in judgment a couple weeks ago and downloaded a registry cleaner that I should have know would be full of viruses, trojans, etc. I did the best I could to uninstall and delete everything, but I knew it was still there in disguised form, and I worried that it was capturing my passwords and would soon empty my bank account. My husband told me to go to Best Buy and use the Geek Squad, but I decided to check Yelp first, and I'm so glad I did! I read the good reviews about Rich Computer Services on Yelp, and I decided to give it a shot. I took my laptop to Rich Computer Services, which is located in a gas station at the corner of Market and Castro. It's a fun and funky-looking location, but it's a very serious business. Richard was at his desk helping another client when I walked in, but he helped me right away since they were waiting for a download to complete. After describing the problem and leaving my contact info, I was out the door. The whole transaction took less than 5 minutes. By the way, Richard told me that the diagnostic was FREE! Richard called me the next morning to tell me that my laptop was fixed and that I could come pick it up! He charged me $69.95 for the fix. That's a BARGAIN for the excellent (and friendly) service with super speedy turn-around. Once I got my laptop home and started working on it, I remembered a couple of questions I had meant to ask Richard. I emailed him a list of questions, and he responded very quickly. Next time I need technical support for my laptop, I will call Richard at Rich Computer Services. I was very fortunate to find Rich through YELP and just wanted to advise all of the very prompt and professional manner in which Rich corrected a rather devious and complex wi-fi connection issue with a stone age home computer, lynksis wi-fi router , and (evil) Comcast Cable Modem. The solution took about an hour, but that actually included an unexpected trip to the local Best Buy for a quick hardware swapout. I couldn't have even found a parking spot in that time! I stopped by the shop with my laptop one day during regular business hours and no one was there, the door was locked, and there was no note. So I emailed Rich through his website and was surprised to get a quick response. I told him my laptop problem and he explained to me that he was out at a clients when I stopped by the day before. Fair enough. We set up an appointment to bring my laptop in the next day. I arrived 30 minutes early and no one was there again, so I went back to my car and waited for my appointment time. After the 30 minutes in my car I went back to the shop and there was another customer waiting who asked me if I had an appointment and I told her I did and it was right now. She said her appointment was scheduled for 30 minutes earlier, but was running late. I informed her he wasn't there 30 minutes ago. She decided to leave and I waited another 20 minutes for Rich to show up, but to no avail. I left and emailed Rich, giving him the benefit of the doubt, and asked to reschedule the appointment. I hired Richard to upgrade 3 workstations in my small business. I also needed virus protection, new monitors, network connectivity, a back-up routine, and all old images re-imaged onto the new machines. In other words, I needed A LOT.
