The Price Chopper is a really good grocery store on the O'Neill highway…read more When I lived in Dunmore this was my go-to grocery store and I was very pleased to have it. It's large, usually has a nice selection of goods, a decent bakery, a good produce section, nice prepared foods, reasonable price...all good things. If this...and make sure you are shopping at the correct Price Chopper, the BIG Chopper right off of 81, not the tiny, terrible, cramped Ghetto Chopper on Monroe Ave...if this Price Chopper has a problem, its biggest problem is its proximity to the superlatively wonderful Wegmans. If I'm driving across town for groceries I'll drive the extra 5 minutes for Wegmans...not a knock at all against the Big Chop, but Wegmans is simply better.

There are even times when I will run out of milk or eggs mid-week, and find myself stopping here for those items rather than shopping closer to home. In the several years my family has been shopping here, I have only had one incident where I was charged x2 for an expensive cut of Parmiggiano reggiano cheese but it was corrected during my next visit. The Wegman's brand organic items like the milk, eggs, and dairy creamer leave nothing to be desired. Not to mention their bakery! An absolute gem. Who needs a Whole Foods, anyways? Certainly not I. Keep up the good work, Wegman's!

Since moving here, I've tried kielbasa from several places, including Murazzi's and Rossi's Market, but Schiff's is by far the best. Their smoked, fresh, cheddar, and jalapeño kielbasa are incredibly flavorful and taste exceptionally fresh. Their hot food bar also serves delicious homemade-style meals every day, and their seafood tent sale around the holidays is fantastic. Schiff's is a must-visit for fresh, flavorful food!

And, while there are many meat shops in the Scranton area, my family's choice for kielbasa has always been Schiff's even though it's about 20 miles from their home. Now, having moved away from Pennsylvania decades ago, I haven't been able to find kielbasa that is as good as that from Schiff's from my childhood memories. So, during a recent trip "back home", I stopped by Schiff's to stock up on kielbasa. Our daughter also requested that we pick up its necessary accompaniment, horseradish. My family loves both the regular white horseradish (spicier) and the red one that is prepared with beets. Schiff's also has an excellent selection of other meats: a deli with sliced meats, cheeses, and specialty salads; fresh fruits and vegetables; ethnic foods such as pirogies; and more.

Somewhat above average selection and service. Prices are pretty high for most items - almost as…read morehigh as Weis and Price Chopper - although sale items are usually priced well. The high prices are what allow them to offer their gasoline discount, after all. Despite the large size of the store, the front end area is cramped between the (very small) pharmacy and the (very small) service desk. This problem is exacerbated further by the fact that everyone uses this entrance (while the other is virtually abandoned) and by the array of large obstacles (carts, scratch-off machine, coin machine, large piles of merchandise). I was at their gas station (since the family-owned neighborhood Gulf closes early) and their pump insisted that my card was expired, despite having used it ten minutes prior. Reluctantly, I used my debit card, which I avoid using at gas stations due to their practice of putting a separate variable hold amount that lingers for several days. I later realized that "expired card" is Giant's way of saying that they don't accept American Express. Funny, as they're a large chain that is part of an even larger chain.

Even after making the staff aware of a deli meat that had gone rancid they continued to keep that product for sale. In the meat department the raw Italian sweet sausage had black pepper but none of the other ingredients it should have. Most notably the caraway seeds. In the produce department items that are on sale are subpar. For example potatoes they will have dead worms in the center. Not all of them but too many in one bag. I don't expect perfect fruits and vegetables I even buy off of their last minute rack. Worst of all there's attitude. I am treated as if I had done something wrong to them personally. My last unpleasant encounter I had to prompt the cashier to include himself in bagging groceries. He scoffed at having to use my bags.He then attempted to bag tomatoes with cans.
