My husband drove 25 minutes each way to have this done, and when he looked at it, he refused to replace the strings without any proper explanation other than to say that it was not a good enough shape to bury someone with. We are not interested in burying anyone, just using it for my daughter's mitzvah. He offered no assistance and where we might get this done when I spoke to him on the phone, he did not say anything about it, depending on the condition of the Tallis. The whole experience was very disappointing.

As if I wasn't happy enough with her (by the way, she delivered and carried the baskets into my office), when I ordered a second round of baskets, COVID-19 hit, and I didn't get to deliver them all when I had to abort the project and work from home. Joanna reached out to me to let me know that she would replace any food items that have gone bad so I wouldn't have to waste the baskets. Extremely disturbing experience…read more I visited The Ancient Spanish Monastery with a friend expecting to pay the advertised $10 admission. We simply wanted to visit the property and take normal pictures of each other while we were there -- no professional photographer, no equipment, and no commercial photoshoot. I was told that because I was "well dressed," I would need to pay over $300 to take pictures. I explained very clearly that this was NOT a professional photoshoot. What disturbed me most was the explanation I was given: I was told that if I had come wearing jeans and a shirt, I would not be charged the additional fee, but because I was wearing a long dress, jewelry, and had my makeup done, I looked like I had money and therefore could afford to pay more. I also felt racially profiled during this interaction and extremely uncomfortable with the assumptions being made about me. A visitor's admission or photography fee should not be determined by how expensive an employee thinks they look, what they are wearing, or how much money an employee assumes they have. If there is a legitimate photography policy, it should be clearly published and applied equally to everyone based on what they are doing -- not based on their clothing, jewelry, makeup, race, or perceived financial status. I came expecting to enjoy a historic and religious site. Instead, I left feeling singled out, judged, and discriminated against. For this to happen at a place of religious significance made the experience even more disappointing.

There are two cafe's. One in the garden of the main house, and another across the street where farm animals use to be kept. Surprisingly, the food and drinks are reasonably priced. The day we were there, a wedding was going to take place and there was a lot of commotion going on. Fancy tables being set up, fine china, crystal glasses, the whole works. We asked a security guard how much it costs to have a wedding reception there and he said: "Just to rent the space, no tables, no nothing, starting price is 100k". So if you have 100k lying around, and plan to get married soon, this could be an option for you. Jokes aside though; I'd definitely visit again.

The property and history is pretty amazing. As many other reviews have mentioned, a good portion of the rooms and structures are closed for renovations. They have reduced the entry to $20 from $25 but it still was a little disappointing that the casino building and several rooms in the house were closed. Being that it was the offseason, some of the gardens did seem to be past their peak. We hope to return when everything is open in season and tour the whole facility.

Haitian Heritage Museum is w/ in a quaint, intimate space towards the end of the mall-esque area. When you enter, you are gievn a warm greeting, HHM's history is explained, and then you are able to view the exhibit(s). The "Nostalgia Primitive D'Haiti" exhibit that was viewed started in the beginning of Haitian Heritage Month (May 2023) and ended in November 2023. The exhibition consisted of beautiful, colorful, vibrant oil on canvas paintings created in the late 1970s to early 1980s. Artists that included Dambreville, Dave Millevoix, Sully Obin, Rodrigue Richard, Frantzy, etc. Created artwork that depicted country life, everyday in all its beauty as well as painting of gorgeous people & landscapes. Two favorites are artist Rodrigue Richard's "Schoolyard Recess" & "Wedding Day." Absolutely Cool! We were warmly greeted once inside, given a brief introduction to the exhibition, and then began to look around. Sabrina Gustin's photography of La Sud or The South of Haiti was relatable and captivating. Yet, I wanted more. I am grateful that HHM exists and recognize the undeniable effort made to realize but also sustain this dream despite gentrification. However, I would love to see the growth of this museum's footprint over time given the magnitude of our contributions to Miami and the U.S. as a whole. Whenever I return to Miami, I will look forward to visiting HHM as part of the self-guided tour of Little Haiti Miami that I did not have the time to complete. Kenbe la HHM!

Fortunately, Art Wynwood was fully indoors. This was the first time I had been to Art Wynwood and I enjoyed seeing classic pieces from Latin American artists Wifredo Lam and Amelia Pelaez, pop and surrealist pieces from famous artists like Warhol and Dali, as well as contemporary pieces from lesser known artists around the world. I was really pleased that the show featured several local galleries showcasing local talent. Art Wynwood reminded me of a scaled down version of Art Miami, I thought it was very nicely produced and would love to go back next year.
