Laurie Brandt ended up being my first pick for my first born son's newborn photographer. I LOVE…read morenewborn photography but Laurie's work was hands down the best. She had so many ideas I loved I did my best not to torture her in regards to themes, ideas, & props. She also had done newborn photography with several acquaintances of mine. The long winding country road I drove that November that leads to her studio should be on the cover of a New England Postcard. The falling leaves and trees I passed set the scene or privacy, nature & serenity! She has a gorgeous home photography studio- set on a picturesque property with 360 degree lake views. Just being there brought a sense of calm over you! Laurie asked me what I wanted and introduced me to her daughter Tiffany who would be assisting her during the Newborn Photography shoot. Laurie immediately got to work & I could tell she was a naturally creative spirit. She has an amazing energy and aura about her that transcends into her work! She took my ideas and transformed them into beautiful art. I wanted to incorporate a "Prince Theme" since that was my sons baby shower as well as a "Peter Rabbit Theme" since that was my sons Nursery as well as those quintessential newborn pictures & a few Christmas pictures since it was next month I could use a few of these for Christmas Cards as well as whatever she suggested which was a "Mother & Me" Picture & some other things I Loved. I loved and wished I could have kept them all (including the proofs)! Most important about Laurie in addition to her spirit was how great and accommodating she was to me and my son. I had no qualms about her holding, posing, or adjusting him. She also gave me plenty of time for feeding/changing throughout the session. You could tell she was a Mom with an amazing maternal side that translates into her photography. My son slept through the ENTIRE photo shoot except for when he peed on Laurie- which she handled- LIKE A CHAMP. She quickly let me know and we got him cleaned up and she just kept rolling! That in and of itself- was amazing! Naturally- I felt bad and apologized and she was like "Don't worry about it" she Shook it Off enduring "it happens all the time"! She also has an amazing room dedicated to Newborns/Kids & Their Mom's/Caretakers in which she has a changing table with all supplies, wipes/toys/etc. Newborn Props & Newborn Outfits as well as an area to breastfeed -which I personally thought was amazing!! She made me feel immediately comfortable and I'm a pretty shy individual! Her young daughter Tiffany was also naturally gifted with photography and newborn posing and appeared to be just as creative as her experienced mother! They made a great team and made me feel great about being a First Time Mom and observed I was very natural tending to my son and stopping to breastfeed in between our 3 hour session. The studio grounds are absolutely beautiful & her backdrops are amazing. I know she also does "themes" and offers full scale sets for some of these I believe such as Fairy Sets (unless that's just an example of her beautiful editing). I've seen her do newborn photography with: Disney Movies, Where the Wild Things Are, Rainbow Baby Tributes, Police Officer Tributes, and really anything you want. WHAT TO KNOW: Laurie is extremely talented and creative and is amazing with both newborns AND parents. She comes highly recommended by many friends and individuals in RI! She is very easy to work with, down to earth and extremely approachable and works with what YOU want! Leading up to the wedding, communication with Crissy was great. She was responsive, confident, and seemed to understand exactly what I wanted. I truly thought I was in good hands. The day started off fine, but that didn't last long. While taking bridesmaid photos, Crissy repeatedly referred to the group as "girls," even though one of my bridesmaids is a man. Each time she caught herself, she made a dramatic show of "correcting" it, turning what could've been a nonissue into an awkward moment several times. That tone set the stage for the rest of the day: unnecessary comments, poor professionalism, and a general lack of awareness. Family photos were a mess. Despite having a full list of shots, Crissy made no effort to organize them, leaving me, the bride, to track down and call out my own family members. Later, either she or her assistant (neither would own up to it) decided it was appropriate to tell one of my bridesmaids that she "made a funny face" during the ceremony. Completely uncalled for. During cocktail hour, my maid of honor had to come remind me to take more photos because Crissy apparently couldn't approach me herself and told my maid of honor something along the lines of not wanting to talk to me, maybe because organizing family photos left me in a bad mood. And when she decided she was done for the night? She just left. No goodbye, no check-in, nothing. Apparently she could not find me. Then came the "sneak peeks," which were anything but the exiting reminder of our big day that they should have been. My flowers, jewelry (yup that's supposed to be a pearl necklace believe it or not), and tattoos were warped beyond recognition from excessive blurring, and my face had been edited to the point that I didn't even look like myself. The details I spent months planning, gone. When I brought this up, Crissy immediately got defensive instead of acknowledging the obvious issues. That reaction pretty much sums up every interaction I've had with her since: defensive, dismissive, and never accountable. When I calmly told her I wanted to find a solution that worked for both of us, she accused me of threatening her. Let that sink in, a paying client expressing dissatisfaction was somehow a "threat." The immaturity and unprofessionalism she's shown in every post-wedding conversation have been astonishing. And if all that's not enough to make you reconsider, here's more: - Most photos were unevenly framed or crooked. - Basic editing errors everywhere, overexposure, blotchy grass left unedited, poor color grading. - Important moments were completely missed (thankfully our videographer was on the ball the whole night). The "photo booth" included in our package wasn't set up until 15 minutes before she left, resulting in zero usable photos of guests and fewer than 30 photos from the last hour of the night. So in conclusion, I absolutely wish I'd spent the extra $1,000 on a professional who knew what they were doing. Between the poor quality, the lack of professionalism, and the astonishingly childish behavior, hiring Crissy was my biggest wedding-day regrets. I'll cherish the memories, just not the photos.
