It seems people are more involved with the hype of things rather than the truth. This establishment I've been dreading to get to because of the hype and false reviews. When it comes to food it's my second nature. When I walk into any establishment my radar starts from the moment I walked into any restaurant. This establishment is mixed in with many small other food vendors at the Krate off the Grove. A new way for small businesses to start off. Not much room inside but a few tables outside. You have to scan a business card to see menu for you can order. The setup wasn't thought proper. They did go the cheap route by doing plastic containers and package utensils. I get it it saves on piled dishes. If your seated inside your guaranteed to be surrounded by people waiting for their orders. Imagine you're sitting enjoying your food and people hovering over you waiting for orders. The 2 high tables are your best bet for indoors. Now the food, we ordered a medium oxtail meal which consists of rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. 2 jerk chicken meals same sides but we did one mild and one spicy. Unfortunately we know baked chicken when see it. There is no grill nowhere around for the chicken to be grilled on. The moist chicken is definitely from being covered and cooked in oven. What they do is pour sauce all over your chicken to throw you off. The rice and peas fell short (in need of more coconut milk). Our boys enjoyed the oxtails but I didn't get a chance to taste any of it for they sat at the second high table by themselves. Where do I see this establishment going (not far) once you present yourself as a gimmick then that's how you'll end up being a gimmick. Ordered 3 plates for my family of 4. Specifically asked if the "Large" Oxtail would serve 2 and the same for the "Large" Jerk Chicken plate. (Was told yes - emphatically) Also ordered a Medium Jerk chicken plate. And two "spicy" beef patties. Short story is: I'm positive they aren't using Jamaican recipes ..... go elsewhere. Rice - they give you a ton.... For a reason. The rice we received was not completely done, so there was some hard (undercooked) pieces through each plate. Cabbage - tasted like cooked cabbage with no seasoning - at all Plantains - just ok. Spicy beef patties - not spicy. Now..... My "LARGE" oxtail - was essentially 6-7 bones with very little meat on them .... And a mountain of rice with what was supposed to be oxtail gravy, but tastes like just plain brown gravy that we Americans put on mashed potatoes or something. My "Large Jerk chicken" plate was the pretty much the same - "Two" pieces of baked chicken (ONE leg and a ONE thigh - cut up into 2-3 pieces) with jerk rub on the and a jerk sauce that was supposed to be medium sliced - but much closer to No spice. Again, a mountain of rice with brown gravy, and unseasoned cabbage . My "Medium" Jerk chicken also had "Two" pieces of baked chicken (ONE leg and a ONE thigh - cut up into 2-3 pieces) ... (insert: Mountain of rice ..... etc, etc ) My wife said: "This Jamaican food is Mid!" .... I disagreed and told her she was insulting Jamaican food by calling it that..... and it definitely isn't mid..... is borderline terrible. Like how do you serve undercooked rice??? All that said, my biggest complaint outside of the rice being undercooked and giving us plain gravy for it is: the meat portions were super small - for the cost - and How does a Large Jerk Chicken and and Medium Jerk chicken have the same "Two pieces of chicken" ??? Ultimately.... I'm given 1 star, only because I can't give them zero Stars. They are charging Jerkhut and Golden Krust Prices for American food with small portions and store bought sauces. Recently tried Rhythm Pon De Grille at the Krate market area. The interior is clean and relatively spacious compared to other shops in the plaza. The staff were super kind and friendly. We got the medium jerk chicken plate. This dish was delicious and packed with food! Very good deal for ~$11, especially compared to other restaurants in the area which give half the food for twice the price. Loved the glaze on the jerk chicken. Got the medium oxtail and the medium jerk chicken. Oxtail was good from what my son told me. Though it was a little pricey $27 for a medium. It was all little oxtail pieces so, that was diasppointig. I was definitely disappointed in the jerk chicken. It wasn't hot(temperature wise) at all. It was almost cold and did not have the jerk flavor, tasted like regular grilled chicken. The cabbage was bland but the rice n peas was decent because of the gravy. I didn't even finish my little plate, so that says a lot. I love jerk but wasn't feeling this spot. I came around 6p.m on a Tuesday, so it could have been an off day but for the price of over $40 for the amount of food and it was room temp at best! They have some very tasty oxtail stew! To be honest, I thought everything ordered was full of flavor. The steamed cabbage was the best I've had so far. I could even taste the coconut oil. The fried plantains were perfectly ripe and sweet. The oxtail was tender and savory. You couldn't see it in my picture, but the butter beans were all hidden under the oxtail. Everything arrived to our table hot, fresh, and delicious. We were initially told that the oxtail wasn't ready yet. It did take a while to come out, but it gave me time to catch up with my old work buddy. It was so worth the wait. I shared my Sour Sop Drink with my friend. It was her first time trying guanabana. We loved it! This particular Cariblend Juices brand is blended with cane sugar and lime juice. The juices are made locally. They had other flavors, but this one really caught my attention. I need more of these natural tropical drinks in my life. So refreshing! They also had many other Jamaican sodas (Ting), drinks, juices, and beer. As you know, these restaurants have fully functional kitchens and AC inside the shipping containers. The aroma coming out of Rhythm Pon de Grille at opening time was intoxicating. They have very limited seating inside. Not a problem. We took advantage of their fully shaded outdoor space. They have huge black umbrellas shading you from the sun. We were under a heat advisory that day, but it didn't feel like it where we were sitting. We got a cool breeze every now & then. Would I go back? Absolutely! I had been intending to try the restaurant for a while. I was glad I did. I tried the jerk chicken. It had a deep, smokey, and spicy flavor. Some of the best I've had. The jerk sauce seems to be a modern interpretation of traditional jerk sauce and reminded me much more of a Thai sweet chili sauce. Some may think it veers too far from tradition. It pairs very well with the incredibly seasoned chicken. The rice & peas were moist and definitely met the Jamaican standard, and the plantains were a mildly sweet side that rounded out the small plate. I washed it down with a Ting. It tastes very much like someone electrocuted a bottle of Squirt. The entire experience was 10/10. I can see people *possibly* dinging this restaurant for their customer service. Those unfamiliar with the culture may not appreciate brief answers to questions or less than enthusiastic engagement. That being said, they're trying to serve good food, not be your next best friend. We have been craving Jamaican food. We decided to meet our kids here for an early dinner and it is well worth the 35 minute drive. Decided to get a Red Stripe while waiting for the food to come out. I was soooo psyched to see a Jamaican restaurant and couldn't wait to try them out. I went in to check it out and saw a bunch of REALLY TASTY Jerk Chicken on the grill. I asked the guy working the counter what the difference was between a small and large order of Jerk Chicken and was told that the large order equaled a half a chicken. We ended up ordering 2 Beef Patties that were EXCELLENT! Crusty outside and a tasty moist beef filling. Definitely something I would order again! Now the Jerk Chicken! The only 'Jerk' was me for ordering it. What a complete and obnoxious RIPOFF! My 1/2 chicken ended up being 5 pieces, made up of: -1 leg -2 scrap bones cut off the bony side of a breast. NO MEAT! SCRAP bone that should have been thrown out. And did I say NO MEAT!!!! -2 pieces of a bone/cartlidge, with BARELY ANY meat on it. Seriously, it was NO BIGGER than 2" round. The taste was great but to charge $14.50 for rice/beans, fried plantain and scrap bones is insulting. I would recommend ordering the Jerk Chicken BUT OPEN UP THE PLASTIC TO GO CONTAINER IT COMES IN AND CHECK YOUR PORTION OF CHICKEN!!!!! If I wasn't back on I-75 I would have gone back. I SOOO wish I opened the container there and checked it before leaving. I HATE getting ripped off, my fault for not checking my order before leaving their 'container'. We were hanging around the Krates and saw this jamaican restaurant. We were very excited and walked around till 11:15. Stated opening time is 11am. Door was locked and a guy let us in. I asked if he was open and he said yes and no. The inside smelled like a gym locker room. He said nothing would be ready for 30 min. We split. Ive been to plenty of jamaican restaurants and some have been slow, messy, workers rude, etc, but their food was FIRE and worth the other shortcomings.
