A large car park on the edge of the Afan Argoed Forest Park, not far from the village of Pontrhydyfen and just off the B4287 (beside the garden centre). It was recently improved with a new road surface and clearly marked parking spaces (including some disabled ones). There are picnic tables and some BBQ facilities near the river
It's totally free and the best place to start a walk or cycle in the forest. As I write, the path over the bridge on the right-hand side is blocked halfway along for repairs, but you can take the left path for several miles - even cutting over a bridge across the river further along and walking up the path to the cafe in the main Afan Argoed centre. (You can park there too but it's not free) read more
