About a year ago they redid my garage and I was young and naive with no family support. They took advantage of this and charged me 3x what a building of this size costs. They didn't even paint it or put drywall on the inside because they knew I was trying to cut costs. They added unnecessary and costly things without giving me the choice (a giant beam that required a crane that was unnecessary for the structure and even my garage opener is one of the most expensive on the market instead of giving me a basic one). I have been pursuing legal action since. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. They have no integrity and will do anything to save a buck. I also had them put in a hood vent for my stove at the same time and they put plywood on my wall instead of making it drywall behind it. Absolutely horrible. Please do not make the same mistakes we made We gave "RG" (RG Probuilders / RG Designs / RG Construction Services / Richard Garrett's construction in Battle Ground) $10,000 as a deposit to design and build an addition to our house. I do not recommend providing payment to RG in advance of work. We hope to help others avoid the mistakes we made in choosing RG. Prior to posting this review, we met multiple times with RG, and are working with the Better Business Bureau to resolve these issues. In summary, RG's team is nice, but not capable of designing quality custom home additions. They were unable to create a design that matched our modest farmhouse, lack necessary capabilities, seemed inexperienced, and made mistakes in the design work such that we lost trust in their ability to build. We decided not to go forward with RG and lost a lot of our deposit, with nothing but headaches to show for it. Why we chose them: RG's team is polite and responsive. They were confident they could design and build a single story, 480 ft addition to our house on clear flat land. They said they could match the exterior of our house, and remodel the bathroom near the new addition. RG verbally gave us a ballpark cost - which was more than we wanted to pay, but not terribly unreasonable. Although their prices were the highest, they touted themselves as an integrated service with a design team that could easily address our concerns. Soon after we handed over $10,000, RG and his team showed up with several young, energetic employees to take photos, ask questions, and measure. What went wrong: Their first interior design incorporated many things we asked for, but needed a lot of work. It was not a good use of space, and the placement of the rooms, doors and hallway was odd and not well thought out. We gave feedback and RG's team made adjustments... exactly as we suggested. We later realized RG's team measured wrong, and the design wouldn't work. We gave them the correct measurements, and RG's team corrected it. We gave more suggestions about the design, and RG's team incorporated them... verbatim. After a few rounds of discussion, it became clear that RG's team was not designing or providing creative services. We were. RG's team seemed unsure how to incorporate several suggestions we made, including a tankless/instant gas water heater for the bathroom, "zero clearance" or interior wall gas fireplaces, or sliding/folding glass doors. Although asked, they were unable to incorporate these. RG's team seemed very fixated on the placement of towel hooks and electrical outlets, however. Prior to starting, we made it clear that the exterior design was critical. Under no circumstances could we go forward with a cheap looking, mismatched addition. We were trying to improve our home, not simply add space. Only after we approved the floor plan did RG's team start to talk about the exterior. We rejected the first designs. They were simple, crude, and did not match our house (roof pitches, window features, etc). Again, we gave suggestions, and I found myself drawing roofs late into the evenings to suggest to RG's team. I was furious. I paid thousands of dollars, and we were continuing to do their work. They incorporated our feedback and eventually presented a somewhat less crude-looking exterior design, and we agreed to hear their bids. When the bids were presented, RG and his team surprised us with new designs - essentially, rectangular boxes built next to our house connected by a mismatched roof, one large, and one small. They told us that what we previously agreed to couldn't be built (which makes no sense, because the rest of our house has a roof). The bids presented were 2 to 4 times the cost of RG's initial estimates, even though one of the designs was smaller than what we discussed, were "stripped down" versions of what we wanted, and did not include items on our wish list. In examining the bids, the numbers simply did not add up. Working to resolve this with RG has been a nightmare. We have subsequently hired and worked with another local builder / designer, who is far superior to RG in terms of creativity, experience, thoroughness, accuracy, capabilities, and familiarity with necessary construction techniques. Our subsequent experience confirmed we were correct NOT to move forward with RG. read more

Can't speak highly enough of Richard and his team. Stuck with us through the Covid pandemic - quickly updated schedules and kept us abreast of upcoming delays. They tracked our schedule and budget in their handy online dashboard so we could check on progress. We had a couple unique asks (concrete floors, underfloor heating, toe kick cabinet drawers) and they bent over backward to get it done right. To speak to their quality, when asked about a 1 week delay on the concrete floors, they noted they were not satisfied with the quality of the first pour and were in the process of tearing it up (on their dime) and getting a second bid. The end result is a fantastic beautiful concrete floor that my wife loves. They were also the pinnacle of professionalism addressing any changes in scope or outstanding concerns without any pushback or complaint. Sometimes even coming back after the job for touch ups upon request. It was a very refreshing experience. Thank you RG and look forward to working with you on any of our future projects! read more

We found them from BIA, but I'm upset with the quote after the design of meeting, and probably lost our down payment, which is about double price if you hire engineers to draw. If you keep working with them, the cost is even double with other contractors. Need to be careful to send out money and sign any agreement. I didn't know that they need to spend that many hours on drawing, and all the meeting between their team, all the cost is on customer. We can't keep going because it's way over our budget, and if we want to keep in our budget, the design was not what we expected at the beginning. Not like at the first free estimation, the salesman said it all doable, it could be within your budget. What an expensive lesson learned! It's not a pleasant experience at all. read more

We hope that if you choose RG construction that you have a better experience than we did. We hired RG construction based on their high online reviews. It is not easy to find a contractor to put your faith in. We hired RG after a great consultation where our goals and budget were clearly communicated. We were assured that we would be able to complete our goals within our budget. We paid our deposit and after that it was all downhill. They did not seem to have time for us. They missed appointments. They canceled appointments while we were on our way. Long story short. We got nothing usable for our 10k deposit. Their final proposal was 3x what we were led to believe in our consultation. RG Construction remodeled two bathrooms for us as well as tending to a variety of projects showing up on the inspection of a newly-acquired house. The bids were reasonable relative to competing bids, but they are not the least-expensive alternative. Richard is willing to bid on just about anything. The projects started on time and moved right along, staying within a day or two of a schedule provided to us up front. We are happy with the outcome. Richard comes around every few days to see how his guys and the subcontractors have been doing; anything needing correction gets prompt attention. Several call-backs also were dealt with promptly. All were nice people and easy to get along with. Responsive when contacted. We would use them again. And, Beth makes killer sweet rolls. read more

Made an appointment and then sent us a confirmation email. So efficient we were blown away. Then meeting with Richard was a wonderful experience. Very knowledgeable, lots of ideas, no high pressure salesmanship BS, and a joy to walk through the initial process with. Can't say enough great things about our foreman James. Professionalism was top notch, customer satisfaction was obviously priority one w/him, and communication was flawless. We always knew ahead of time what was going on and when to expect the next step and what it was. As to be expected in contracting any job, there are always mishaps along the way. James handled every one of them in a fashion that our satisfaction was job one! Jake and Levi were also extremely polite, hardworking young men.
