We finally tried Rey Azteca in York a week ago. We were seated immediately in a typically styled Mexican restaurant and were asked our drink order. Just water with lemon for us. Nanci, our waitress was lovely. Personable, caring, efficient. She answered all my questions. We ordered and our food was at the table quickly. Everything was delicious, well cooked, and pleasing to the eye. We liked it so much we went back tonight and ordered different dishes. Definitely our go-to Mexican restaurant from here on out. Me and my boyfriend stopped in town here on our trip to visit family that's an hr from us in York. It was about an hour until they closed. There were a good bit of people in there. This little restaurant was hopping when we arrived, and we had to wait for a table. The restaurant was decorated with bright and attractive items. They serve all the normal favorites from other Mexican restaurants I have been to, and were quick to bring chips and salsa once seated. The service was good, but a little slow (probably because they were busy). It wasn't the best Mexican food I have ever had, but was good. Did not care for the chips n salsa, chips were hard and were a mixed batch some were lighter colored and some were darker colored. The salsa was runny not much to dip and hold onto. 3 soft taco's were $9, meh I get it everything has gone up but I can make them at home next time especially if the chips n salsa are not going to be included as part of the experience. Please put pricing on the drink part of the menu, I would have liked to ordered something but didn't want to find out later when the check comes it is some outrageous price. Yes you can ask, but it is annoying as no server anywhere ever knows how much something that they serve costs. They have to check and it is a whole thing or a language barriers sometimes. read more

I will start of by saying the salsa was great but the portions are a little small for the price. I had the fajitas and they were ok, just small portions. The negative side was I went in to place the order because no one was answering the phone. I walk in go to the counter and half way through placing my order the phone rings, the guy answers the phone and immediately starts taking the rather large order leaving me there waiting, keep in mind I was almost done ordering. After the lengthy phone call he looks up at me and ask for me to repeat the entire order. Am I missing something, why would you not put the phone call on hold while you have a customer placing an order? I'm sure the large phone order also went to the kitchen before mine. This really ticked me off and was extremely rude. If I had not been traveling from out of town and knew other options at 8:00pm at night I would have walked out for sure. It was 2pm and we were desperate for something that would have gluten-free options. Rey Azteca was the first place we saw that could accommodate. There were a few patrons just leaving as we arrived. Service was super speedy - drinks, chips, and salsa in barely enough time to glance at the menu. They've got good deals on lunch specials, but I opted for the lunch chicken poblanos enchiladas with beans instead of rice. The food came out just as fast. The salsa was fresh and bright. The chips were crispy, not too greasy, and perfectly salted. The chicken in the enchiladas was a tad dry and a tad tough, but the sauce, which was more of a mole than I was expecting was delicious enough to make up for it. The guacamole salad was definitely cut with sour cream, given away by the tang. They've got happy hour specials (16oz Bud Light draft for $.99), but we had to get on the road back to Atlanta. read more

I was in York around dinner time by myself and I figured I'd check out something new and found Rey Azteca. My taste buds and my stomach are happy I did! I had the special, beef enchilada and beef taco, a beer and then finished out all of with flan. Everything was great including the chips and salsa. And the prices - put it all together and this place is worth driving to! Oh, and when I came in 8 o'clock the place was packed with only 2 tables available - always a good sign! Been eating hear for years. Always very good food. Staff quick to seat you and deliver chips and salsa. My wife and I will often get fajitas for two, she loves the Hawian fajitas. I like everything. Tonight I had the super Ray Azteca. Kinda like Texacan fajitas without green peppers and side salad. It was yummy. I would recommend eating hear fore sure. If they put a roof over there outdoor area or a trellis over with little white lights I think it would draw a lot of people. Just an idea. read more

We found this restaurant a few years ago and this is our favorite Place to eat Mexican. The chips are usually fresh and warm and the salsa is always just right. We have several favorites and like their lunch specials 7 days a week. We live in Rock Hill, but it's worth the trip about 4 times a month to dine here. We have been going here for years but after today's experience we will never go back. The server first brought us our drinks and there was a straw wrapper in his drink that wasn't either of ours. Then about 15 minutes after our food came out she came over to see if we needed to go boxes. We felt very rushed so we finished our dinner at home. This was the first time we have sat down anywhere to eat together in a long time because our work schedules are conflicting. I was very upset and will be giving rosaritas a try. read more

Having lived and traveled the world, I am a self proclaimed Mexican Food Connoisseur...I am not that picky when it comes to Mexican Food....I judge the food based on what one can purchase at the grocery store and throw together themselves at home. That being said, the refried beans tasted like a name brand canned variety, the salsa was boring, and the enchiladas were blah. Not to mention that the restaurant itself had a foul odor about it and it didn't appear very clean. I would drive to Clover or Rock Hill before I eat here again. read more

I've tried to like this place, I really have. The servers are friendly, but the food is just lacking. I've been here several times and I just can't be impressed. This week, the tv was so incredibly loud I couldn't hear my family across the table. And they weren't impressed with the food, either. I've been going here with my coworkers for lunch for years. They have really fast service at lunchtime, and the prices are great. Their Speedy Gonzalez meal is a favorite among us. You get a taco w/ white cheese (maybe Monterey Jack?), an enchilada w/ some kind of yummy sauce on it, and you get a choice of Mexican rice or beans. The rice is really good, and of course you get all you can eat chips and salsa. You get all that for about $6. You can't beat that for authentic Mexican food! :) read more

Arrived expecting to wait due to it being cinco de mayo. After waiting in line for an hour to be seated. One by one parties in front were taken to be seated. Finally we were second in line. People from the back of the line started passing us and we assumed they were asking how long the wait was. Suddenly, the hostess started calling people names. Three parties from behind us were seated. We were literally still second in line and the party in front of us were just waiting as well confused why people from the back of the line were being called. My husband went up to the service desk and the hostess instructed him she could put his name on the list. We explained we have been waiting in line for an hour and no names were being called. Explained that no one ahead of us had their names on the list and were being seated by the order of arrival. My husband asked why she was just letting us stand there at the sign waiting. She could not provide a reason. The sign says please wait to be seated. The hostess was just going to continue to let us wait without any knowledge that our names had to be added to the list. Been going to Rey Azteca in York for a while now and we are unfortunately finding things going downhill as the management has changed. The noise level is incredible with blasting TVs, and when I spoke to our waiter about the screaming kids piercing our eardrums for over a half hour ruining our meal, he smiled and said: That's just the way it is sometimes. He would not talk to the parents who sat there doing nothing with their screamers. Chicken dishes were a bit dry and chewy, and when I screwed off the hot sauce cap on the bottle on our table, the top was black with old, dried layers of sauce -- the bottle necks and spouts are never cleaned.... that did it!
