Atmosphere: My husband and I called ahead since we were traveling with our puppy and wondered if their patio was dog friendly - after confirming she was a small we headed to the restaurant. We ended up being seated in a little add on to their normal patio that isn't covered - which is perfectly fine, but it had no lights so it was difficult to see. Otherwise we really appreciated the accommodation!! The inside looked hopping and had a nice little bar. Prices: Well priced for the portions. Chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas came in around $13.50, so a few bucks cheaper than other places we frequent. Food: 100% GOOD - But nothing that made us say wow. The chips and salsa were solid. The veggies in my husbands fajita's were still crunchy/raw but the meat/seafood wasn't dry. My chimichangas were enjoyable. Service: 8/10 - our waitress was very friendly and was about to offer our puppy a bowl of water until she saw we brought our own. Service was a bit slow since it was so busy inside, but our food came out quick which was nice. Hola amigos. Rey Azteca is your typical Mexican restaurant... the music, the decor, the ambiance... I actually like the II location up the street better... its newer and definitely cleaner. As to the food, Yelp's default wording "Meh, I've had better" is the perfect description. The service is pretty good though. read more

Poor service, dirty, and way overpriced for what you get. We walked in and were told to just go sit on a side, so we sat down and waited about 10 for some stale chips and to get our drink order. Waited about another 20 minutes for our order to never be taken. There was old food on the menus looking like the have never been cleaned. We have never walked out of restaurant before but after sitting there for so long and it seemed like nobody even cared we were there, we paid for our drinks and left. When going up to pay we still didn't get so much as a apology, instead the guy looked annoyed and charged me $6 for a lemonade and a coke. Horrible and Highly recommend finding somewhere else to eat. If you want to pay $15 for a chicken and cheese quesadilla and be treated like a burden then his is the place for you. read more

One of Lake Wylie's better choices. I've only ever been here for lunch with coworkers, but we always enjoy our food and the accommodating staff. They are accustomed to splitting checks and don't make a big deal about it like some places. I always get the juevos rancheros (lunch menu) but everything always looks and smells great. Service is usually pretty quick and their chips and salsa are very nice. Salsa is just slightly on the spicy side, but there is hot sauce on the table if you need to kick it up a notch. They have lots of booths for more intimate dining, and a few sets of tables that can be pushed together for larger groups. Holy jalapeño this place is good. I have committed a sin against Yelp that you should take into consideration reading this review. I got lucky on my first visit and found an amazing dish. So basically this review speaks to the Ray Azteca fajitas. They are the only thing I have ordered here. The reason I am so excited about the fajitas here is that they are perfectly seasoned. That may seem like a small thing but lack of seasoning has led me to reduce my Mexican food intake since leaving California. So many places under season or think just salt and pepper as seasonings is ok. It is not ok! The service here is always very attentive and the food comes to the table hot off the stove and they don't skimp. My fajitas are always more than enough for two meals. The boyfriend's chimichangas are always full of meat and not overly padded with rice or other cheap substitutes. If you are looking for Tex-Mex this is a great place to try. read more

Being from Southern California, I'm always on the lookout for a Mexican place that reminds me of home. Thankfully, Rey Azteca is close by. It's not what I would consider a five star dining experience, nor is their food gourmet quality, but don't mistake those critiques as me saying it's a bad place to eat. A hidden gem on their menu is the Chicken Soup. Order it with a side of flour tortillas for dipping/scooping and you can thank me after. If you're by yourself or with one other person, a good idea is to go back and sit at the bar. My wife and I regularly visit Rey Azteca after we go to the gym Wednesday nights and just head back to the bar where we get prompt service and a dedicated wait staff. One comment I feel I have to make is Rey Azteca recently received a "C" rating from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Meaning their food handling and cleanliness was "poor to marginal" during a surprise inspection. They've since brought their rating back up to an "A", but I felt this worth at least mentioning. read more

Today's visit was our third to a Mexican restaurant this weekend. Hot tortilla chips and pretty decent salsa curbed our appetite while we waited for the inlaws to arrive...In my opinion salsa can always used more cilantro! Today I ordered the chicken quesadilla from the lunch menu for $5.99 and it was a great size for the money and the rice was good as well. Service was good and very attentive...bill was combined and had to be split at the door which is kind of irritating, but all in all another good trip. Maybe Rey's is growing on me :) read more

Maybe an off night? Waitress was lacking. Took away my tortillas while we were still eating. Chips were prentiful but stale. Chili verde was okay and there was plenty. I have really tried to like it here because my friends do but this place is pretty horrible. Its definitely far from good Mexican food. There is no brightness and freshness to their dishes. This was the worst Mexican food I've ever had!! First off ordered a margarita came to the table looking very weak and it tasted even worse I had to send it back! I decided to just go with a draft beer which is very hard to screw up. I've experienced consistently poor service and management at Rey Azteca on Rt. 49 for the past few months whenever I ended up going there with friends. Tonight however was the last straw. They were busy, but that is no excuse for the amazingly poor service. Once we got a table, they took an extraordinarily long time to get our drink orders and didn't seem to know what server was supposed to have the table. It took several attempts to get everything ordered and brought to the table. Once our food was brought to the table, after speaking to the manager to get a server to take our orders, my daughter found a nickel in her quesadilla. At this point, I was done, we pointed out the problem to the manager, and left. I will not be returning to Rey Azteca in the future, nor would I recommend it to anyone. There are much better Mexican restaurants within a few minutes drive. read more
