Infamous cigar bar masquerading as a restaurant…read more I was back in NYC for business and my buddies wanted to meet here to reconnect and enjoy stogies n drinks. Rev Al Sharpton holding court in the intimate seating area by the front window. I breezed by his bodyguard to shake his hand and trade brief small talk. My party of 5 got seated in the far back corner table. Ordered several rounds of drinks, as I gifted my buddies some Cuban cigars. It was a busy weeknight and the place was packed. Service was not great and waitress was very cavalier as we racked a nice tab. We also ordered dinner. I went against my instincts and ordered the tuna steak which was fabulous. Here's the kicker I asked for the bill and there was an "expected per person cigar charge" because we had our own ...not an issue. I paid the bill and told the waitress to give each of my buddies a cigar equivalent to their per person minimum..........would you believe I got big time attitude and resistance. I told her to get me the menu, and I read her their policy verbatim that states minimum per person cigar purchase. I paid the fee and am entitled to x number of cigars. She whirled away, came back and tossed the cigars on the table.

Big fan of what the previous owners did there, but over the last couple of years things did go a bit downhill due to the economy and Covid. They are offering a greater variety of new premium cigars - along with their own hand rolled cigars. Really enjoying the new energy and changes here. Looking forward to see what else Rocky and Zimri do in the future. So far, it's been a great launch.

Never been to a cigar lounge so I didn't know what to expect. My friend and I walked in and we walked straight to the humidor to check out the cigars. Thee was a guy there and I wish I got his name. He immediately came in and greeted us. Asked us if we needed help or had questions. We wanted suggestions. He was VERY helpful and knowledgeable. For me hypnotic with Grillo. Amazing choice. There are lunge chairs, big flat screen TVs that line the wall and a bar by the entrance. They have another level with more lunge chairs and TVs and outside seating. I hear you can BYOB because they only have wine and beer. Will definitely be coming back.

You need to have this coffee! It is excellent and a great accompaniment to a cigar! I will be returning to Manhattan in the near future and will definitely be making a stop here!

Tonight I had one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered at Montecristo in…read moreParamus. I stepped away from my table for roughly two minutes to use the restroom, leaving my jacket, my drink, and a cigar I was actively smoking. When I returned, my entire table had been cleared including my cigar despite my personal belongings still being there. I asked to speak with the manager, Ric, to explain what happened. Instead of taking ownership or attempting to resolve the situation, he told me he "didn't know I was coming back" and decided to clear the table anyway. Even after I pointed out that my jacket was still at the table, he simply said it was an error and there was nothing he was going to do. What made the situation even worse was his attitude. He then questioned whether I had purchased the cigar there and tried to tell me I should have paid a $10 fee for bringing one in something I have NEVER been charged in my many previous visits. Rather than acknowledging his mistake, he doubled down. I suggested a simple goodwill gesture allowing me to buy a replacement cigar at a discount and he flatly and rudely refused. When I asked what he could do to make the situation right, he said "nothing" and ended the conversation. Mistakes happen in hospitality. What's unacceptable is the complete lack of accountability, empathy, or basic customer care from management. The dismissive and confrontational response turned a simple error into a truly negative experience. Based on how this was handled, I will not be returning and I would strongly caution others about the level of service they can expect if an issue arises.

I came here with a party of four & we had a reservation & upon arriving we were seated immediately…read morewhich was good. They do have coat check if you don't want your coat in your seat with you. Now the location is small, but one might view that also as being a more intimate setting, but friends , family etc all would be fine here. There was one bartender & the service was slow, so I think having two bartenders especially on a weekend would be helpful to speed up the service. My table ordered some food which consisted of lollipop chicken, prawns, asparagus, steak, truffle fries, sliders, deviled eggs & a charcuterie board. The food was good & expect to pay moderate restaurant prices not bar prices. The food came out in a fair amount time which was probably due to most people don't order food here, or at least when I came, I didn't see anyone else with food. Now to the cigars. You can bring your own cigar, which two of us did. They do charge $15 to cut it, however that is waived if you order one of their cigars. They didn't have the Montecristo cigar, which was disappointing for my sister in law, but she tried something else suggested & liked it. Our waiter stated to us they were just filling in for someone & wasn't the person to explain the cigar menu (this was our first time here) but they will have someone come over. The person who came over was the bartender & although he was very nice & personable, while explaining to us, I don't think any drinks were being made, hence my prior comment, having two bartenders. We noticed once we started to smoke our cigars the service got better, which is interesting. We had about 2-3 people check in with us asking if we needed anything & they were more attentive. I get it's a cigar bar, but we actually spent a bulk of our money on food & the service should be consistent & the same across the board, regardless of what you're ordering. Overall the atmosphere is laid back & chill which is what I like. They do have TV's (no sound wasn't on I believe because we were right under a tv) & was playing the football game. They also have some music playing low in the background. The noise level is moderate so you might hear the person next to you conversation, but it's not bad. F.Y.I I'm updating this part a few days later because the transaction just cleared & they charged my party card more than what was listed on the receipt. Smh the same amount we tipped in cash was the same amount they overcharged. I'm not sure why that is but the bank will have to sort this out now & my rating for this location has changed from three to one stars. I'm not sure why they would overcharge & not honor the amount on the receipt.
