All necessary equipment is provided. There a very nice area for post experience snacks and refreshments which is BYOB but they did have some pretzel and a veggie tray. If you choice you join I think your admission gets credited for an annual membership in the curling club. These events sell out fast so if you see one available don't heists to book. There are 4 courts in the ice. They take 2 groups on 4 on each court to teach you and the laur has the stone and sweep. One you have the basics down your group of 4 plays 4 matches against another group of 4. You get to try each position on the team, lead, second, vice and skip and learn the different strategies of the game. The instructors are in different leagues at Bucks County Curling Club and promote there night at the end. If you want more info they ask you to put your email on the back of your name tag and they contact only those who expressed interest in joining. It was super fun weather you plan to join or not this is a great event!

Upside, it's fairly cheap (a few dollars cheaper than the one at Wissahickon) and it wasn't overly crowded (but then again, it had snowed over a foot of snow so I doubt people wanted to leave their homes). They do have food but based on how run down the place is and how poorly maintained the skates/ice is, I'd suggest you eat beforehand or bring in your own little snacks. It is open daily to the public from 8p-10p then afterwards it's for those who play in the local hockey league. Check their website to check for times because it does seem to change fairly often. It is a little cheaper ($2 less) than the nearby Wissahickon skating rink, so in some sense you get what you pay for. It wasn't terribly crowded either, which made skating mildly more enjoyable. If you're looking for a cheap place to skate and aren't picky on rental quality, this is the place for you. If you don't fit into those categories, head over to Wissahickon.

The old chairs(tilting and broke), bathroom, and skates looked to be from the 80s. I guess the rink was closed, and it sat, and someone brought it and opened it with everything from back in the 80s!! There's security at the door, and they frisk you down! Look in bags and even went through the party food. The staff was nice and the woman who tended to the party was very nice and accommodating. If you have a party you can't bring in burgers and chicken because they sell that. When I put on the 80s style skates, I didn't feel comfortable because they were wobbly! Some people who I was with were skaters and refused to put the old skates on. Some people brought their skates. B.Y.O.S. the floor was warped in some places. The rink makes you sign a waiver before giving you a party band. Someone in our group was run over by the speed skaters and was hurt very badly. They announced that the slower skaters should skate in the middle. However, we couldn't get out there because of the speed skaters!! It was very scary trying to get to the center on the floor!!! Most people just stayed on the side all evening. Overall, I was disappointed at the condition of the skate rink but enjoyed the time with the people who came for the party.

But ultimately its the best bang for your buck. My biggest issue are all the little hockey brats that enjoy slamming into other skaters. The rink supervisors need to kick them off the ice, but don't. They're young. Otherwise, the staff is supportive, and the ice gets re-polished often enough to keep up with the amount of traffic it gets. The food court sells hot edible food. You'll have a good time regardless of a few bumps and slips.

The big rumor is that ownership is looking to sell the business to private equity and continue to push pricing. It is a business, so I don't fault them for trying to push profits. However, the quality of the instruction and the resumes of the instructors don't sync up with the costs. They do not make cuts on their travel teams and put kids that have no business playing travel ball on the field, resulting in very poor results. They preach they are most concerned about attitude and effort but the reality is that is just an excuse because most of their youth teams get smoked in the tournaments. Their Futures program for high school kids is actually really good and they take that seriously because they want to get players signed for college so they can tout that to their customers. However, those players come from all over the region and many have never been All Star customers. So, if your son is truly an elite high school player, All Star Futures is a good thing but if your son is a young player between 8-14 I would not waste your time or money. There are more economical and better player development options in the area.
