I hired Leal Electric in 2024 to install a workshop subpanel and add outlets in my garage, soffits,…read moreand pantry. There were a few things I wasn't happy with, but I understand that not every job goes perfectly. However, it was not until last month (Aug 2026) that I became aware of the full scope of the problems with Leal Electric's work. I recently hired another electrician to complete a much larger electrical upgrade. During that work, multiple issues with Leal Electric's previous installation were identified as NEC code violations and/or safety concerns. Here is an objective list of the issues identified: * Two 20A breakers were installed on new circuits wired with 14-gauge NM-B. After discovering this shortly after completion of work, I contacted Arturo, he returned to correct the issue. * The new Eaton subpanel was installed without the required hold-down assembly securing the main breaker. The panel came with a hold-down assembly, but it was removed when a different-size breaker was installed, and a breaker compatible with the panel's hold-down assembly was not used. * A long section of NM-B cable was installed inside PVC conduit in an exterior/wet location. NM-B cable is not permitted to be installed in wet locations. * NM-B for a new pantry outlet circuit was brought into the breaker panel without a cable clamp or connector to secure and protect the cable. * Three instances of breakers from a different manufacturer were found in my panels: Siemens breaker in Square D panel (pantry outlet), Square D breaker in Eaton (new subpanel), and an Siemens QP breaker a Square D main panel (soffit outlet). These breakers are not listed for use in these panels. * A wall stud was compromised by drilling through the edge of the stud, despite my specifically instructing the electrician not to drill in this area because there was known blocking there and it would be a problem. What is particularly frustrating is that these were not things I discovered immediately after the work was completed. I trusted that a licensed electrician would perform the work in accordance with the NEC and that the installation would be safe. It took another electrician inspecting the work years later for the extent of these problems to become apparent.
