I am a sucker for passionate baristas, edgy cafe food and crumbly red brick - so this little spot on Brunswick St has won my heart. Our food was tasty and delicious, the service was quick and informative, the surroundings were comforting and inspiring, and the coffee was strong and flavoursome.

Coffee Roaster: Uncle Joe's Coffee. Coffee Origin: Ethiopia (Purple Haze) Tasted as: Long black. Personal taste: Great afternoon coffee to help relax and unwind. It's very much like a good bottle of wine, savor every note. One of my favorite coffees from one of the most exciting roasters.

Potato and Leek Rostis with roasted beet instead of carrot and added avocado.

Great find. The coffee here is silky and smooth; not too bitter. I ordered breakfast and it was beautiful. The Potato and Leek rostis were crisp and delicious. Unfortunately they didn't have any Jamon or carrots, but the substitute of roasted beetroot and avocado was enough to compensate. Well worth a visit from me again.

New menu: Granola with dark chocolate and caramelised banana.

I've been meaning to get into Reverends, as I'm trying to lead a boycott against LTD. I like coffee but I'm no expert. And I like that when I don't seem like I know what I want, Reverends are happy to explain the difference between washed and natural beans. There are no pompous wankers at Reverends, just polite hipsters. Reverends seem to be trying Sunday trading, and I am glad they are. I went in for the coffee and really impressed with the taste of my pour over (I can't recall the method, but I picked up it was like a V60, with a wavey paper and a flat bottom). My Bagel Boys bagel was amazing - the best tomato relish I've ever had. The poor barista and waiter did not seem to be able to cope with a Sunday crowd. They seemed to struggle with the numbers that were rolling in, with their "table of 8 please?" and "where can I put my pram?". This put them off their game - getting orders wrong and overcharging. We get the look you are going for guys - but you have to be able to deal with the "non-regulars" as well. I'm definitely going to go back on a weekday morning and make myself a non-pram-toting-regular.

I adore coffee geeks. Seeking them out everywhere I go, I appreciate few things more than spending time at a gorgeous cafe where people care about their product. Reverends has this in spades. Offering a short but considered breakfast menu and lovely coffee, this was a great place to enjoy breakfast with friends. Service was a tad slow and I am not really a fan of getting my coffee at the same time as my breakfast, but in fairness there was a lot of us to serve. Not being a Brisbane local, I wasn't familiar with Uncle Joe's coffee but I am digging it. Ordering both of the beans on offer for filter that day, I was really impressed with both. Two delicious, bright and juicy coffees made just right. I could have happily stayed longer and nerded out with the baristas had I gone on my own. I was looking forward to checking out Brisbane's coffee scene and this place didn't disappoint.

Trying to find Barista's who can read your mind? Cold pressed coffee fan? Perhaps a skinny Cappuccino? Interested in the new aeropress? All whilst working up an appetite? Look no further! If you've ever been to the valley then you've been past Reverends. This is a venue where your culinary thoughts will be read and your tastes satisfied!

This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Firstly, I was ignored by all the staff for 20 minutes even though they had seen me and told me it was table service. Eventually I was served but not very politely either. The woman with blonde hair was incredibly insouciant and at one point even made a sighing sound at a female customer which I couldn't believe. I ordered the avocado and almonds on toast. It was ok. It really lacked so much flavour. But this wasn't my issue. The problem started when I investigated the plate and noticed that although the eggs were poached perfectly they had left all the water on the plate which made the entire breakfast soggy beyond belief. Would it be so difficult to drain the water !? The coffee came out cold as well. Very disappointing.

I had a meeting at Reverends yesterday and it had been, admittedly, a long time between drinks. There's a swanky new menu of breakfast and lunch options and a new layout for ordering. Having just come from a Pilates class, I was feeling a little peckish and was thankful for the new menu. I perused and decided upon the poached eggs with sautéed kale and tomato on a slice of vienna with goats cheese. I resent the price for breakfast sometimes but this is one meal I was glad to pay the $14 for. Vibrant green kale popped from the plate as it was delivered to my table and it was perfectly crunchy, the eggs not hard but not runny - the best kind of poach - and the goats cheese spread on the slices of vienna loaf was the kick of flavour that tied the whole dish together. Paired with an iced coffee ($5) and I was set for the day for under $20.

Today was my first time at Reverends and I was holding it in high standard because of my great experience at Ltd yesterday. I absolutely love the store's decor - exposed brick, various bits of coffee making paraphenalia scattered around, and a record player with vinyl in the corner. Very nice. I was greeted quickly and my order taken swifly, but unfortunately that's where the speediness ended. It's not like it took 20 minutes to get my take away coffee made, but it was long enough to make me feel uncomfortable standing around waiting for it. They were busy, but not super busy. They just seem like the kind of people who don't rush things, so fair enough. The coffee itself was good, though not great. Similar to Ltd, I enjoyed being able to drink my coffee at a comfortable temperature. The coffee itself lacked the same enjoyable taste though and I'd merely describe it as 'doing the job'. I would return to Reverends if someone asked me to come along, but with a better coffee shop only two doors down I'd be more likely to go there.

Tossed up between giving this place 3 or 4 stars, but I settled on 3 for a reason. Despite the coffee being quite good and the bagel nice, this place gets so so hot it's ridiculous which makes the dining experience a tad uncomfortable (and it wasn't even that hot today). While the service was okay, it was more just "do your own thing and we'll eventually get to you..." We had to find our own table (it was busy so quite difficult) and then we sat there for a good 15 minutes before getting menus...once we got the menus we then waited another 20 or so minutes before being served. I wouldn't say that it was overly busy so I should have expected to wait... It's really not that hard to greet someone and then at least give them some menus... The good thing was they were quick with the coffees once we'd ordered so that relieved the tension as I'm not one to like waiting 45 minutes for a coffee... The staff were relatively friendly - nothing exceptional but not bad. The bagel was nice and filling. I'd probably go back again so suss things out and sit in a different spot - hoping I wouldn't die from the heat (I think it was partly because the coffee machine was near us and so the general heat from that was a bit too much...) I wouldn't class it as a favourite but the vibe was good :) I'd probably pop in for a takeaway coffee if there was a next time :)

Sunday brekky here after shows on the weekend. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Great simple food done with love, fresh ingredients and the coffee is great too. I had the breakfast bowl: poached eggs, sweet potato, pea shoots, spinach, avocado and butter beans, with a side of their in house glazed ham and gluten free toast. So awesome! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because service was a little slow and the waitress forgot our coffee. But I'll be coming back.

Batch coffee and reverend burger on gluten free bagel bun.

I've been wanting to try Bunker for the longest time, and today was the day. I love the vine covered hub, which reminds me of a burrow, and of a cafe that I used to visit back in L.A. Instead of getting my usual latte, I went for the bottled ice dark chocolate (5). I'm not the biggest fan of hot chocolate, as it's usually too sweet and heavy for me to finish (I know, strange, because I can finish a whole Chipotle burrito), but I decided that the unusually warm weather called for an iced chocolate. We were greeted by a really friendly barista who helped us right away - and well - the iced dark chocolate and dark chocolate mocha were pre-bottled, so there wasn't much work. The iced dark chocolate, made with organic milk (I think?) and fair trade chocolate, was quickly consumed! It wasn't too sweet, and I would definitely go for it again. The iced dark mocha was also really good, and not at all grainy, which often happens in a lot of mochas. My only complaint was that the bottles were a bit harder to open (I prefer Bean's bottles), and the straws were too short and kept falling in! The drinks were so delicious it didin't matter though....

Probably the best coffee you'll find on Wickham terrace. They have a small but quality range of cabinet food including wraps, paninis, cakes, and biscuits. In winter they have lovely soup but they don't make much and it sells out early in the day. The staff are helpful and efficient and the prices are reasonable. Because The Mill does the vast majority of its business with medical staff and patients who are only around on weekdays (Wickham terrace is pretty deserted on weekends) , The Mill isn't open over the weekend which means that it's not going to be an option for a Saturday or Sunday morning coffee if you happen to be in the area. The Mill is definitely a venue more suited to winter, because with it's very sunny outdoor only seating on the concrete patio of Watkins Medical Centre, it can get pretty scorching in summer. The same characteristics make it a challenge in the rain, although they do have large umbrellas over some tables. The outdoor setting can be a drawback on really hot or rainy days, but in general is a plus because of the frequent pleasant breezes and beautiful fig tree out the front. Like the pharmacy next door, The Coffee Mill is a cafe/restaurant designed to service all of the medical specialists working in the building and surrounding centres, as well as the clients of these specialists. I've frequented The Coffee Mill a few times, typically when I've gone to see my ear, nose and throat specialist to have my sinuses "cauterised" (a very interesting procedure which yes, does involve the burning away of the sinus tissue to assist breathing.) Leaving my specialist without being able to feel part of my face because of the anaesthetic, I'm careful when I'm eating here. I always order a coffee and I don't need it spilling down the side of my numb, droopy lips. (I can be clumsy enough on my own, thanks.) The coffee is decent but I always find the food here to be excellent. The last time I visited I threw health concerns cheerily to the wind and bought a beef sandwich, spilling out gravy all over the table without a care it was just that damn delicious. I was ravenous at the time and indifferent to the few people watching a slight-figured girl-woman devouring a sandwich like it was her last meal. This questionable novelty wore off after a minute or two and I ate my meal outside, fairly undetected. There's some relaxing out-door seating here, perfect for people-watching. Of course it's not an upmarket cafe, so you're sitting at a dirty-ish table on top of a cement floor. But anyone with eyes can see that before they come here, and I find this contributes to the cafe's casual vibe.

The girls there were friendly, but a bit disorganized service-wise (throughout my entire meal). I ordered a coffee to start, and as expected, was just alright. For sustenance, I had the corn fritters with smoked salmon on the side, but I almost didn't finish the corn fritters! They were lukewarm, chewy, and tiny! There were two - and smaller than the size of my palm, with a bit of smoked salmon, a poached egg, and rocket with tomato relish (that just tasted like tomato sauce).
