Great venue for rock bands. Has out door bar/ patio. Security is on point here, no drama and very quick to react. Drinks are strong and food smelt good.

Security girl lifted my boobs up during pat down, I found that wildly inappropriate. I don't appreciate being felt up going into a concert.

Visited the Santander Arena this past weekend for an old school hip hop concert. I didn't even know…read morethe arena existed prior to my friend suggested this concert. After this show, I doubt I'd see another show here. The area is conveniently located across from a hotel, which is great if you're traveling to Reading, PA like we were from another city or state. Unfortunately I cannot review the parking situation, because with took a Lyft there. But it seemed like everyone parked away from the arena. All of the staff was extremely friendly. From the attendant that helped us find our seats to the nice lady who sold us the $15 deuce-deuce can I'd Trulys. It's really sad how ridiculous these arena prices arena! The seats at the Santander were horrible. Of course because it's a concert, everybody was dancing and having a great time, but the seats were wobbling and moving more than we were. I felt like I was going to end up in the floor! The sound system wasn't the best either. Most times, the music was completely overpowering the artist. For these two reasons, I doubt I'll be back. But the concert was great!

On the surface, that sounds OK, but all the people who didn't pay their insane prices for food and drinks ended up standing in front of us blocking our view of the show that we essentially paid a premium to see. What a cool place, and area overall!…read more We came for the band - BIG SANDY AND HIS FLY RITE BOYS - but ate there as well. I loved the chill (mainly) black decor and space! The food itself .... I ordered a catfish po boy and subbed the fries for a side salad. The side salad was plain, yet very good. The sandwich was interesting ... not on a long roll (but a burger bun) and only a small piece of catfish was present. It had some tasty "mystery" ingredients. It was kind of good, just not what I expected. (I was still hungry afterward too) ... The band - BIG SANDY AND THE FLY RITE BOYS - were phenomenal! Incredibly smooth voice and such talented musicians!!! Great (professional) sound and "Sandy" was super interactive and damned funny, plus nice too! The opening band were very good as well! (Forget the name!!!) Every single band member of both bands were dressed impeccably and looked amazing. What a pleasure to be vibing with these crazy talented men / bands! My honey is friends with one of the guitar players in BIG SANDY and I loved meeting and talking with him (Ashley)! He made his guitar alive - it sounded insane! Id love to come back for them again in the future or to see another band and to explore this adorable area (lots of quaint shops). Bring a sweater and don't go too hungry!

I am specifically writing about the End of Summer Series here at the Bandshell. The regular ones…read moreall summer are too hot for me! These free outdoor concerts liven up a begging-to-be used area, the Volunteer Fireman's Memorial bandshell, a hillside amphitheater which was recently spruced up. It used to be an art-deco pink and green and is now an elegant sandy-gold color. Adjacent to a pond with a moat in front of the stage (how often do we get to use the word moat?), the area does not seem overrun with mosquitoes. So either a healthy population of bats exists (unlikely, poor bats are basically going extinct), or there may have been some spraying. Just to add a bit of macabre to this, keep in mind that this park was once the site of the Reading prison and was formerly called Gallows Hill and Penn's Common. Lots of hangings went on here, most famous of which was the 1805 one of a young woman accused of killing her infant. So some levity is needed to balance out all this bad karma, and Reading and the Berks Arts Council do a great job of creating a peaceful relaxing venue. There is a scattering of artists, food trucks, and other stands. Most of the food is fried, but my friends came back with some lovely Vietnamese egg rolls likely from Van's Cafe. There are also pay-what-you-want mini-massages, fire dancers, henna painters, and more. I spotted the Mayor and other city officials strolling around. We learned that we are the only people in the county without portable chairs, but my spouse dragged in our cushioned deck chairs, thank you dear! You can also sit on built-in benches that curve around in front of the shell, if you don't feel like carrying in furniture. You are welcome to bring food and drinks -- (that do) not (appear to be) alcohol. So our new giant picnic basket had its maiden voyage. We had a group of nine and found plenty of room. There is a beer tent, but you have to stay in the penned-in area. Is this part of state liquor law? It seems uncivilized. I will check out the offerings next time to see if there is anything local or flavorful. There was also a Chinese auction and raffles for restaurant gift certificates going on after the music. We wanted to see the Beatles tribute band, which was last, and it is rare to hear so many Beatles songs being performed. There is reggae next week! Please, enough with the classic rock; you can hear that everywhere. Note to hippie-types: don't go barefoot into the Portapotties! All in all, a lovely end to summer and a brighter side to a much-maligned city.

They didn't make it a little bit more accessible to the bar area because it was just us and one other couple in this huge big room that was beautiful. I feel like it could be better utilized if they opened up a wall or something give people a place to go When that bar area gets so full like it was, they make their own rum, and I got a rum punch, which was absolutely delicious very false spiced tasting. We ordered the margarita flatbread, which would've been better if it had basil on it, which is what a margarita is supposed to have, but it was actually absolutely delicious with the heirloom tomatoes and thick chunks of bacon. I would definitely get it again.

My favorite appetizer I think was the deviled eggs with crab! It's creative and was pretty good. The different chicken wings were good. The calamari was crispy and perfectly seasoned. I ordered medium rare steak fries with upgraded truffle fries. When the dish came out it came with a slab of butter on top of the steak. The truffle fries didn't taste like any truffle oil was infused into them (or maybe they forgot I'm not sure). The steak was a little overcooked and just bland. No seasoning on the steak at all..very disappointed. I think the food was mediocre. Again maybe other entrees would be better and I think the food overall is just okay

Phantom Power - NEIPA in the beer garden.

    Phantom Power

    (4 reviews)

Be the first to review this somewhat hidden gem of a music venue and brewery? don't mind if I do!…read more Over my past couple of years of listening to them, Foxy Shazam has evolved into being a band that I really needed to see live. So when I saw that they were playing this random Millersville venue not all that far away I was instantly intrigued, and then I was even more sold when I saw that the venue also brewed their own beer. I also loved that it was a non-Ticket Master venue that used Eventbrite to sell tickets without an insane amount of hidden fees. And when I checked it out it was a hidden gem of a pleasant surprise. Unless you go to Millersville University, the area that the venue is at is one that you might not frequent. But Phantom Power is one of those few other reasons to visit since it delivers a fine assortment of local flavor events and national touring acts. Regular events include things like gothic/industrial dance parties, comedy nights, a Kegs and Eggs weekend brunch event, or just chilling in their outdoor beer garden on good weather days. I would absolutely go to things like these if Millersville was even closer! But on the flip side Phantom Power has also been seeing a good surge of national acts coming through thanks to WXPN taking notice for shows and them just being a fun and reliable space which I'll get to. In addition to Foxy Shazam I've seen big local names like Hop Along and mewithoutyou, indie acts like Delta Spirit and Sondre Lerche, Industrial and Punk bands like Front 242 and Reverend Horton Heat, and WTF WoW shows like Tim Cappello from Lost Boys (I still believe! - https://youtu.be/LpuwcINDHnQ) on their current and past lineup. It kind of reminds me of pleasantly filled memory venues of yesteryear like the Trocadero, only with a better beer list! Once we made our way through the lot to the venue we realized how big it is. Outside of their brunch event, they don't have a menu of their own, but I love the food truck connections they have and really wish I could remember the name of the BBQ truck that had those glorious smoked wings! The on-site brewed beer was as much of a hidden gem as the music venue since we enjoyed IPAs, stouts, pilsners, ESBs, and some other good varieties. The one suggestion I have is that, with a music venue of its caliber that also has a good beer list, it would be useful for them to have more sheld space to leave cups on during a jam-packed show like the one we were at, Foxy Shazam is one of those good energy rock bands that I would have enjoyed without good sound or lighting. But the fact that they had both in spades definitely helped. Now that I know this hidden gem is a success I'm checking their Facebook and Eventbrite pages (they don't actually seem to have their own site outside of those) for eye-catching shows, and you should do the same!
