I have had 2 massages before this experience (basic massages at other spas) and this was my least…read morefavorite. I booked stone massages for my friend and I to celebrate our birthdays. I chose this place because they had availability and had great reviews online. The two main reasons I did not like the experience is because we received the wrong massages. Instead of stone massages we received standard massages. Our masseuse was very apologetic when she realized the error while checking us out. I appreciate her confirming that because I otherwise would have thought that's just what stone massages are like. The second reason is because it was hard to relax. There are two massage rooms and the waiting room. We unfortunately could hear everything in the next room because the other masseuse talked very loudly to her patients. All this being said, the massage itself worked. I had some crazy tension in my neck/shoulders area and Brogan worked them right out! She was a professional with the massage and owning the mix-up with massage types. I really loved working with her and would still come back if she had an opening.

However, when I went to schedule a massage a few months later (and when I finally could get through to a person), I was told there were no massages that I had available. The secretary said the owner was the only one who could handle this, but she never got back to me. I tried email, telephone messages, and even direct text and calls to the owner as originally she was the one who did the initial call to determine the best type of massage and which therapist would be best, so I had her phone number. So she took my money for no services. Now, apparently, it's just the owner, Stephanie, doing massages and no one else. No one answers the phone. Disorganized. The massage therapist I had before was excellent (not Stephanie), but I can not get through to find out where she went. Stephanie was very disorganized, extremely late to the original call, and took my money(!) never getting back to me to either reimburse or let me schedule the massage. I would not go there again!

Nick's technique was excellent--he really knows how to work out tension, and it's clear he has top-notch training (he went to massage school in New York, which has some of the strictest requirements). The massage bed was super comfortable, and the entire environment was very relaxing. On top of that, Nick was a fun conversationalist. Since this was my first time in the area, he gave me plenty of great recommendations for Portland and other cities I'll be visiting. It was like getting a mini travel guide along with a great massage! If you're looking for a high-quality massage and some local tips, I highly recommend Southern Maine Massage and Wellness.
