What a name. The rehabilitation of retro garments... I'm SO there. Dinky? I'll say. There's a lot to be said for small vintage shops as you can do all your rummaging quick sharp, and this place is perfect for that very purpose. As previous Yelpers have confirmed the stock rotation is indeed frequent, so be sure to pop in any time you're in the Northern Quarter. One of the things I love about this titchy boutique is the shoes... the brunette and I were drooling over little red pixie boots for quite some time. There are plenty of customised one-offs and second hand garments to choose from, and no doubt anything you buy from there will attract envious attention from friends. Unfortunately it doesn't cater for men, however a great many high street fashion shops don't either, so I don't have a gargantuan issue with that. The staff are very friendly and appropriately quirky themselves, so if you're stuck for inspiration you can always have a gander at what they're wearing. Prices vary depending on the item but no label has made me gasp in agony thus far. And I had no idea about the buy one get one free sales, so thanks to Alexandra I'll certainly be looking out for those in the future! And who can resist aqua-marine, well, I can't. This store has done extremely well in making itself conspicuous amongst the many shabby chic boutiques along Oldham Street, and it has definitely earned its place as one of the shops that very much makes the Northern Quarter feel like the Camden of Manchester. This cute little shop on Oldham Street has really friendly, well dressed staff with quirky haircuts. There is a really good decor in there including, amazingly, the changing rooms. Massive patterned curtains and cute chairs. And the window displays are always creative. Is there anything I don't like about this place? Ok, the clothes. It is a mix of reworked garments at a reasonable price and eclectic second hand. Although be warned - a lot of it is very hard to pull off and whilst you might love it on the hanger it may look awful on you. Check frequently for new stock; a gorgeous lacy jumper that I got from here was only put out that day. Retro Rehab stock goes fast. My sister also got an adorable money-green dress with a Old Master style paintings pattern on there from here which she wore to her high school leaving do. The aqua blue frontage, the art deco window display, the 'shabby with frills' interior fit out- it all adds up to a really fun shopping experience and appeals to girls on a 'dressing up box' level. The thing is with Oldham Street, it's laden with vintage shops...places like thunderegg who charge silly money for daggy modern made to look old gear. Anyway I spotted this place today. .have I been walking around with my eyes closed? It was like stepping into my mums wardrobe, back when she was cool and didn't shop at M&S.. You really have to dig, but here you will find specially hand selected clothes from the past. You can happily buy something here, without the fear of bumping into someone vwearing the same outfit...unless you own a time machine... Prices do vary, the most expensive item I saw was around £34...but hey you are practically buying a piece of history...this place constantly has new stock..so come have a gander... read more

Retro Rehab lives upto it's name with a selection of gorgeous dresses, skirts and cardigans that would suit eye-catching pop stars like Amy Winehouse, Alison Goldfrapp and Paloma Faith. The shop is much smaller than American Graffiti, Pop Boutique and Vintage but they get new stock on a regular basis and a lot of it seems more unusual / distinctive. I love this little gem the northern quarter was wandering past after a trip to Abakahn ( see review) and just had to pop in. It's only a little place ( has about 9/10 rails of clothing plus scarves, tea cups ,jewellery) and is the sort of shop you need to visit and browse just to get that perfect little item. When you find it try it on and buy it otherwise it will be gone forever - no mass production or re stocking of the same items here! Some of the items have been reworked from vintage items or patterns and some are vintage. They were having a clearance sale when i was in there within may items from just £1 (non-returnable) I picked up a little dress in the sale for £10 and will feel happy that when I wear it out any (welcome) comments of "I love your dress" won't be followed by "Did you get it from ....... ( insert name of high street shop)" as it is a unique piece of clothing that isn't available else where on the high street. Great place if you are handy with a sewing machine you can pick up something for a bargain price and rework into something just or you! Staff are pleasant and there are 3 changing rooms so you can try on, which i recommend as not all sizes are standard. They also have a shop in Preston if you are ever up that way read more

Though I adore Retro Rehab, I've only given it a score of 3. Why is this? Well, as much as Retro Rehab is stocked with lovely, beautiful vinatgey bits and bobs, I have never bought a garment from here. I find the clothes just a little bit toooo vintage for my liking, and their upcycled pieces are a little weird. However, the accessories and jewelry are where it's at here. Two years ago, Classy Friend and I were in here rummaging away when I exclaimed at the beauty of a red handbag. Fast forward two months, and naughty Classy Friend gives me the bag for my birthday! I am rarely reduced to tears by a (good) gift, and this one did the trick. Some vintage shops have that knack, for uniting friends over a beautiful item. I honestly feel like that handbag brought us somehow closer, and I still use it to this day, and Classy Friend positively glows with pride whenever I do. As well as accessories, the jewelry case is full of lovely bits and bos, again providing great gifts for around a tenner a piece. Last time I went in, their vintage pieces had been usurped by vintage-look stuff. I can only pray that they were having supplier issues and that next timme I pop in, they'll have reinstated proper vintage. There's a folding screen near the till that is covered with earrings both clip-on and pierced, which are a great touch to any vintage outfit. One of the best things about Retro Rehab is that they don't waste anything; all decent-sized offcuts from damaged vintage goods and the upcycled stuff can be bought at a quid a piece, which provided the perfwect birthday present for Tea Snob Friend, who has recently taken to obsessively making cushions. Retro Rehab is a lovely little place, but if you're looking for wearable vintage you're better off in COW or Junk. Think of it instead as a great place to get gifts that your friends will love forever. read more

Retro Rehab. It's like somebody walked into my head, saw what I like to wear and decided to set up a shop selling it. I think it is great. Every item in there is completely different and unique. Obviously, this had good and bad consequences. Beautiful, layered blue satin dress - yes please. Shaggy old moth- eaten jumper that looks like someone's Granny dies in it - no thanks. But, hey each to their own! Retro Rehab sells everything from jumper, to bag, to quirky jewellery. The quirky jewellery being a personal fav. You can pick up a fantastic pair of vintage gold earrings, or a broach emblazoned with hundreds of tiny little pearls for under a fiver. They also have great belts, skinny leather belts for around £10 - fraction of the price of their Topshop counter parts. And wait belts with kitsch clasps for around £8. The girls who work here are always so friendly and genuinely seem to love every item in the shop as much as I do which makes the whole shopping experience here nothing other than pleasurable. read more

Situated a fair way down Oldham Street, this is an absolutely fabulous little boutique which sells eye poppingly cute dresses for exceedingly reasonable prices. Indeed, I don't think I've ever left the place without buying something! It sells a nice mix of vintage and customised clobber, all of which is catered to a wide range of shapes and sizes (which is great if you're a lady with massive boobs!) Best of all, it's all unique - which means you don't have to suffer the indignity of walking into a club to discover that someone's wearing the same dress as you! They also do a great range of vintage accessories, shoes and customised jewellery (I especially love their huge £3 Button earrings). I think the thing I like most about Retro Rehab though is the staff. They're always wonderfully friendly and helpful, and really take the time to have a quick chat with you and suggest items to suit both your figure and your budget. All in all, this is a real find of a shop, and a true treasure of Oldham Street. read more

I went to see thier Brasilian event! It was one of the most intersting day for me. the staff wear swiming suits. and they make a beach( pool for kids) with sand and some trees. Nothing happend for ages then all of sudden 3 pretty samba girls and bands are outside ,and they start dancing with passion!! The cooktails are pretty nice and so much variety! I found three amazing dresses in the Retro Rehab sale last week, so I thought it was only right they got my first review! It's not a huge shop and the stock is mainly dresses, either vintage or beautifully customised from vintage frocks. But there is a huge selection that spans many different decades and styles - and I nearly always find something in there that I love! When I'm on the lookout for fancy frocks, I visit most of Manchester's vintage shops. However, shopping here is a different experience entirely! For starters, it's the most fragrant vintage shop in Manchester. Unlike some retro stores, all clothes are beautifully washed and pressed for your delectation. So you don't have to worry about smelling like a dead old woman when you first start wearing your new purchase! The staff are really friendly and helpful too, and the windows are great! As I already mentioned, they're having a January sale at the moment, which offers loads of dresses for half price. Think £10 - £15 in most cases! During the rest of the year, there's usually a sale rail at the back of the shop too, which begs to be rifled through. read more

What on earth was a man (which is what I am if you can't tell) doing in Retro Rehab? Well, I've gone in with the fairer sex and everytime I've gone in, I've been very pleased with what I've found. Naturally, I've not gone in to buy anything for myself, but sifting through the varied and very reasonably priced stock, I've found many items that would be perfect for Female X. It's a cute little shop with a very, very pleasant owner (who I always fail to get the name of) who is chatty and helpful. The prices are good and they offer a lot of bespoke stuff, like cool little clutch bags made from vintage material and sweet little neck scarves and the like. When asked by the ladies which shop is worth going for a nosey, Retro Rehab is always toward the top of my list. A lovely little shop that deserves big success. read more

You think 'vintage shop' and a certain type of store springs to mind. Clothes and accessories all bundled together, shelves stacked with odds and ends that you have to rummage through in the hope of finding that hidden gem. Not Retro Rehab. Rails are neatly sorted by garment. Everything is pristine and well pressed. Jewellery is labelled and displayed to advantage in glass cabinets. You also get the feeling of space, which is often lacking in vintage shops. The clothes are either vintage or revamped vintage. i.e. vintage items that have been updated in some way for the contemporary customer. Jewellery is a mixture of vintage, modern pieces with vintage components and a few that are labelled 'vintage style'. It's hard to go in there without buying something. read more

Boutique Shopping is usually a phrase that makes me worry for my bank balance, making me think of tiny trinkets and gorgeous dresses that I can only dream of affording. Retro Rehab manages to offer clothes and accessories that are every bit as appealing as designer equivalents, but at thoroughly affordable prices. With regularly changing stock that ranges from genuine vintage pieces to reworked vintage fabric dresses and original retro items. The accessories - jewellery, belts, bags and scarves - allow a little snippet of vintage style for anyone, even if you don't luck out on clothing when you visit. The shop looks great, managing to feel like you're being spoiled without intimidating all who enter. That's largely thanks to the lovely staff, who are more than happy to chat and offer their help when you're changing or having a bit of a buying dilemma. The only drawback is that, thanks to the shop's small floorspace, you're certainly not guaranteed to leave with a killer find that fits every time. Well worth a visit when you're looking for something no one else will be wearing on a Friday night out. read more

It strikes me that 'Retro Rehab' is a weirdly twistable shop name. Suddenly I'm wondering just what an old-school version of The Priory would entail, and daydreaming, somewhat disturbingly, about white windowless walls, straitjackets, terrifying Ratched-esque nurses...and perhaps some bizarre anti-drugs diet, like enormous stacks of waffles. Luckily, it's this whimsical sense of imagination rather than a preoccupation with handling cold turkey that characterises Oldham Street's pistachio-coloured clothes shop; the prettiest window-dressing in town suggests that you're about to step into a 1950s boudoir and be simultaneously handed a martini and some candyfloss. Because gorgeously girly with a bit of an edge is what they're going for here, with the majority of their vintage threads reconstructed to take in shorter hemlines and 21st-century fashion-forward necklines. The jewellery cabinet shows off cleaned up, rearranged pendants and rings, as well as an impressive collection of clip-on earrings, and the handbags are oh-so-carefully selected to appeal to the 'ya,-it's-vintage-darling' rather than the genuinely practical-old-dear demographic. All well and good, but it does mean that those hunting for genuine vintage pieces will find themselves better served elsewhere - the place doesn't even have that fusty second-hand-clothes smell, for crying out loud! Which I guess is where the rehab bit comes in - this pastel paradise is all about taking in the old, hacking off the dangling threads and loose buttons, steaming out the stains and teasing the whole lot forward into a format high-street friendly enough to occasionally sell pieces in the Arndale Topshop (really). Shopping here is a breeze: the floor is clean, the lighting bright, the rails are even organised by colour. This isn't a place to inject heroin into your eyeballs but it will happily indulge you in a delicious little drink before lunch. Metaphorically speaking, of course. read more

Every so often, my pathological urge to rummage through skips and rag piles to find the thriftiest of thrift wanes and I find myself just wanting to buy a nice frock that doesn't need washing, mending, taking up or taking in a bit. When this happens, Retro Rehab is my first port of call. Not only is the shop beautifully laid out and the staff genuinely enthusiastic about the threads on offer, reams of luscious dresses are on offer which are freshly steamed and ironed with ratty hems neatened and missing buttons replaced. The choice available is awesome, in the truest meaning of the word, and really quite surprisingly so considering this is a relatively small boutique. Almost every dress on the rail is exceedingly desirable and so finding The One can be rather challenging. They also have an incredibly generous sale rail from which I have obtained a sheer 1970s Hawaiian floral print dress for a fiver and a boho 1960s hippy maxi skirt for a POUND! You won't find these sort of reductions in COW! The jewel in my wardrobe's crown, however, is the adorable little red 1960s baby doll dress I bought for my flatmate's twenty-first birthday party. It has long sleeves and a ruffled Peter Pan collar and I simply can't imagine a time when I won't open my wardrobe, see it winking at me and be overwhelmed with joy. For £24 I can't think of a similar item from Topshop that maintains such a bloom after the first week of purchase! Retro Rehab certainly stocks vintage garments with future longevity. read more

Whilst wandering the streets of the Northern Quarter i noticed Retro Rehab's adorable window display with birdcages as the stands for several of their vintage pieces. The shop is very well laid out, with rails of dresses, tops and skirts all handmade out of vintage fabric lining the walls, and the handmade theme extends to fabric earrings (two pairs for a fiver -bargain) and belts. Besides these little gems we can discover a selection of gorgeous vintage finds, including a fine array of handbags and hats as well as a jewellery cabinet I could spend all day perusing. Retro Rehab is a little treasure trove of treats which must be seen to be believed. read more

A really good vintage shop, very large stock. Great for one-off buys. It can be found in the northern quarter. It is definately aimed at women. Everything is layed out so neatly. It is a must visit shop! I loved it the first time that i visited and now i always have a look! read more

Up until now have always looked in the window but never gone in but I did today and am I glad!!!! What a wonderful shop - as all of the previous reviews have said lovely, friendly staff, clean, fresh and well laid out and I have to admit now I have found it I will be in there once or twice a week!!! Definitely feels like a nice little boutique as opposed to some of the other vintage shops in the area, everything clean, fresh and displayed nicely. I bought one fantastic maxi dress and am going back for the other one I tried on tomorrow as just can't leave it behind!!!! And like above reviews say - no-one else will have it - hooray!!!!!! Genuinly my favourite shop I have ever been to. The customer service is amazing, they always have a smile on their faces and are willing to offer help if needed. The layout is great, everything is really well organised which makes it alot easier for you to shop, the shop is well lit and there isn't that smell that can often be associated with vintage shops/clothes. One of the mainstays of the ever changing Oldham St vintage clothing scene, this is one of my favourites as it always seems to just about set the right balance of practicality - ie clothes and accessories that people actually want to wear - and the simply fun and outlandish designs that bring in the window shoppers. There are some fantastic items of retro costume jewellry, bags and knick knacks and occasionally that jaw dropping party dress. Its great fun and highly recommended. read more
