Ambience and Experience: This little coffee shop is located in what used to be an old auto mechanic shop. They have done a great job of flipping the space. Retro wallpaper and vibe give this place unique and quirky charm while the two glass garage doors open up to provide for an decently sized (and relaxingly breezy) space. Employees were super friendly and chatty (in a good way), they shared some insights and tips about exploring the town while I waited for my coffee. Super helpful and welcoming while also being down to Earth. Drinks: We mostly came here for coffee and to chill for a bit. They offered coffee flights here so my wife was sold to stop and try them. We like flights because you get to sample more of the menu without committing to just one thing. After the flights, I did also try a separate flavored latte off of the menu has well. The lattes were not too sweet and the flavor profiles fit the espresso base without overpowering the coffee flavors. My favorite out of all of them were the Huckleberry Latte and the Black Sesame Foam Latte (The Goth I think is what they called it). Fun little shop to stop and grab a drink and bite to eat. Bonus - they are only 1/2 mile away from Lake Michigan and a local park. Park and grab a drink to go and explore the beach! read more

Civilized garage surprised us with a fantastic menu, quality ingredients, and strong notes of flavor across the board from smoothie, latte, and açai bowl, I can easily recommend! Staff was pleasant, parking right on site, a bit limited for work due to hard to connect wifi and lack of outlets but we made it work. Music and overall room felt good. Missed the latte flight on the menu until I saw another person getting it! On the whole, there are few small towns that can brew up espresso properly and combine it with balanced syrups but the prices are in keeping with the quaint tourist trap vibes of this area. read more

It was our first visit here (we live out of state) and had heard Retro Eighth was a new business worth a stop. Was curious to check it out as I used to get my Moped serviced here when it was an auto-mechanic shop when I was in high school! I took my grandma here, and she was struggling to read the screen menu which was rapidly changing every 8 seconds or so (with a super small font and a glare from the sun outside on the screen). I asked if they had a paper copy she could look at so she could make an informed decision and the Gen Z gal at the counter said "no". Alrighty then. We ordered some bagel sandwiches and a coffee, but our coffee never came out. I went up to the counter to ask about it, and was told I never ordered it (although the two other people in my group did hear it being ordered). I think this could have been avoided if they had given me a receipt or at least repeated what we ordered. I was told it was my fault and was disheartened by the lack of customer service. Also, $6 for a bagel and cream cheese (not house made--just plain cream cheese from a tub) seems a little crazy to me for Manitowoc prices. It also took like 20+ minutes to get our bagels which also seemed a bit wild to me. Go to Big Apple Bagels instead. The decor and concept are cute and I think Manitowoc needs more options for coffee, but this was not my cup of tea. read more

First time visiting and it was a phenomenal experience. We ordered the Unbeetable breakfast (egg, cheese, beets on a scrummy bagel) and tried the Açaí Hawaiian bowl (delicious pieces of mango, strawberry, banana, and sweet frozen açaí with granola) along with 2 giant lattes. Seriously I would serve that Unbeetable breakfast to company when they come to visit it was so good. But it is the atmosphere that is so warm and welcoming. Owner Aubry Hassemer makes you feel like family and her smile shined megawatts when we admitted to being newbies who needed suggestions for the menu. She certainly did not steer us wrong for the meal offerings. She also showed us the menu and message boards and did not mind us taking pictures of the ambience. Popped in here quick for a coffee drink! The vibe is retro given the name from the wall decor to the tables and chairs. I was pleased they offered decaf espresso. I got an iced decaf espresso oat milk late which was smooth and refreshing. My husband got a hot mocha with oat milk and drank it up! They also serve açaí bowls and sandwiches which all sounded tasty. Fun place to check out! read more

New little coffee shop in Manitowoc. Friendly people. I had a Retro on Eighth Acai bowl and a large Tumeric & Ginger tea. The Acai bowl was delicious and filled me up. Nice stop for a healthy lunch or treat. Kudos to them for using loose-leaf tea, which is much better than tea bags! They offer organic coffee, Yay! The place was clean and inviting. Yesterday was my first time in this establishment and it was an awesome experience. The girl working was super friendly and made us feel very welcome. She even talked to my daughter and got her exactly what she ordered. I will be visiting again. This is one of the best experiences my family has ever had. I'll be the one to say it- this place price gouges. If you're upset about high rent and high grocery prices, these folks are doing the same thing to their neighbors. They take a 50 cent donut and up charge it 250%. I get running a business has costs but they hired high school girls and folks who likely live with their parents. The coffee is good and the place looks cool...but not better than anywhere else in town. A bagel shouldn't cost that much. That's just mean. I recommend Jen's Java for local coffee and snacks. This place looks cool and I'm sure there are good community things to it... and I get I don't know the whole story here but... inflation in our current circumstance is caused by greed.
