Super weird to write a review for a towing company, but reading most of these gives one a less than truthful depiction of what to expect. Did it take a little time to get my car? Sure, thats because there was exactly one employee in the trailer and was already juggling a phone that basically never stopped ringing. She did apologize for the wait, probably because I very visibly was waiting patiently and not being a dick about it. Once she was able to get me processed I was in and out super quick. Was it expensive? Yeah...yeah it was. But place that annoyance on the city, they are the ones that can set into law what amount towers can charge. Avoid at all cost. Have an Oregon judgement against them for unlawful conversion which they've spent months trying to avoid. The court can effect service but when it comes to making good on their obligations they disappear. Those not in the know: unlawful conversion is an overly formal way of saying theft. They'll argue with me in email trying to rehash a case that was decided against them meaning they know they're legally liable to compensate me for my vehicle but accountability appears to be a foreign concept for this company. I had the unfortunate fate of having to deal work this ridiculous company's Vancouver impound lot. What a bunch of drugged out white trash scam artists. My car was repossessed as I fell behind on payments due to an illness and loss of work. I've started working again but just hadn't been able to catch up fast enough. I was able to fix things with the bank. Paid up what was needed and was told the release was sent out and to wait an hour or so to get my car. I show up to this trashy place. Let them know that I was there for my car. They told me I couldn't have my car because I don't have an appointment. That I wouldn't be able to get one for several days. AKA.... We'd like to scam you into paying more storage fees. This is completely unacceptable. They have no right to hold my car. I'm paid up. The bank has issued a release. Give me my car. I was then lied to. Told a release was not sent. I told her that's BS and verified with my bank. She said that I was giving her attitude. Yes... you were attempting to scam me. So by all means. Forgive me for not being excited for your theft. I walked away to notify my bank that my car was not being released and that the tow yard was stating no release was sent. They again verified the release fax was received. While I was standing to the side on the phone. The two women from the office came out to continue to argue with me. One even calling me a loser for having my car repossessed. Then made various insults and threats when I returned my "attitude" with they meth mouthed witch. At that point I left. I called Apollo who was the repo company. Who just uses this yard as a drop yard for their repos in the Vancouver area. Apollo was able to verify the release was given and set me up appointment to retrieve my vehicle immediately. When I arrived to pick it up. Immediately was given attitude and told she didn't have to give my car back and I owed her an apology. Ridiculous. I paid my fee all while being belittled by staff. At this point my mother who had given me a ride started recording on her phone to document the lack of professionalism of this company. Two women at that point came out of the office. Making verbal threats as to what's going to happen if she didn't put her phone away. Saying "shits about to pop off" and other threats to my mother who's in her 60's. Finally after a few more threats and insults from the employees. I was given the key and told to "get in my car and get the fuck out". They continued their insults and threatng comments as we were leaving. Nobody does business with this company because they want to. And I get it's a tough business. Especially when you are trying to steal from people and make an already difficult situation worse. People deserve respect and dignity. Not to be treated like trash and scammed. This is the single - most unprofessional "business" I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with. Everything I found online regarding them, is about a "scam" or "controversy". They have so many complaints on the Better Business Bureau, I can't even load them all. Why Doesn't retriever towing have a google my business page ?? Crooks I had a very disappointing experience with Retriever Towing in Hillsboro on Evergreen Rd September 2nd at 8:00pm. Our car was towed from our apartment at 8 AM, even though our leasing office is closed for Labor Day. To make matters worse, at 9 AM, there was another car parked without a handicap sign, and it wasn't towed. How does this happen? Additionally, we were charged an extra $60 for waiting 30 minutes. You're a tow truck driver, not a brain surgeon. While paying the $508 fee, the driver called dispatch to give our card number. When asked for the name, he laughed and said its a "weird name" (Abriana), and both he and the dispatcher (Cam or Pam) laughed loudly. My wife and I were shocked and just looked at each other. The driver's name is Travis, bald and missing teeth. Travis, Not everyone has a simple basic name like you or a repeating name like Travis. Management and potential customers should hear about our experience. We didn't complain about the $508 fee because we understand money is what they want. I wish I could give negative stars for the horrible experience that I had. Yesterday someone had parked in our assigned parking spot when we left to get groceries. This was at 3pm, so we parked in the spot next to it which was for visitors. My boyfriend emailed our HOA to get the reserved repainted since it was rubbing off and that other people have parked in our spot. We also left a note on that drivers car for them to please move as this was a reserved spot. At 9pm, we checked again and a different vehicle was parked in our spot. We emailed HOA again about this issue and left another note on the vehicle. At around 3am, we hear his car alarms go off and someone was towing his car. We called the towing company and got an appointment scheduled for the next day to pickup the car. This is where the nightmare begins. Make sure you read the laws regarding towing in the Oregon Department of Justice website. Under the new rule set to protect consumers, they must receive a written signature from the parking lot owner before they can tow a vehicle. The parking lot owner must have also contacted them for the tow. Retriever towing has been known to patrol lots and tow as they please without authorization from the lot owner. We walked in to talk to the person (Josh) at Retriever Towing (Evergreen Hillsboro location - does not show up on google maps) and requested to see a copy of the signature from the parking lot owner (they are required to provide this and must hold onto this for 2 years). We also asked for the reason why we were towed and their response was residents cannot park in visitor spaces. Our space was taken and we've been emailing our HOA for support. Josh asked to see where we got this rule from and I showed him the Oregon DOJ website. He then said that he cannot show the signature since it was confidential. I told him that I would like to call the police here as a bystander as we discuss and he become very aggressive. First, he told us that he will charge an extra standby fee ($30 every 15 minutes) that he has to wait and said "you're wasting my time, there is money to be made." We asked to see where this was written and he said its not written anywhere, its in our employee handbook and he cannot share info from there. He continues to raise his voice and threaten us for asking for the signature to prove that the property owners called the towers. He also refused to give us the name of the person or number that called. He then flashed his phone screen at us for 0.2 seconds and said "here, there is the signature." We did not see a signature in the 0.2 seconds and he would not show us again. He also told me to shut up as I talked. I have never experienced such unprofessional and aggressive behavior. We remained calm the entire time and never displayed any aggressive behavior towards him. We simply wanted to see the signature from the lot owner to prove this company had the right to tow and did not break the laws. He then told us to leave if we didnt want to pay and continued to shout at us. We ended up paying the fee plus the extra standby fee since we were afraid they would damage our vehicle. This place does not follow the laws and will lie to scam people of their money. They also tow people on weekends since that is when most HOA offices are closed and they know people will not be able to get help. We are going to our HOA office first thing in the morning to get this sorted and will be filing a claim against this business for not upholding to state laws and illigally towing a vehicle. read more

He got on i205 from the padden exit heading south towards Portland and proceeded to tailgate the car in front of him. He continued to tail other cars up until he took the Glisan exit 21A. They have no time limits on their parking lots, they say they require permits for places that don't need permits like a Starbucks parking lot, and when asked how long you are allowed to park in the lot as a paying customer before they tow you they will reply "It depends on the tow driver." I understand a repo, the respect to be given for the drivers/dispatch/storage workers doing their job. I really do. Zero problem with communicating and handling business. However, I am missing thousands of dollars of work gear/electronics from my vehicle after it was repossessed. I was told to file a complaint and to show proof of belongings missing. My AirPods can be tracked and they are now in Guatemala. A week ago they were still in the storage yard. No idea why that's there. I have sentimental things no longer with me. They gave me a trash bag of a third of my stuff and said "this was all that's left" when really a guitar, headphones, work gear such as climbing spikes and climb lines and journals and clothes and shoes are no longer a thing I guess. I am absolutely floored by what I've experienced today with this business on 11/23/2023. We've been lied to on multiple occasions and mercilessly gouged for $440. My expecting girlfriend and I just moved into our new apartment two days ago so my son and our baby girl, due to join the world in March 2023, would have their own room. Not even 48hrs after getting the keys to our new home, at 5am, we wake up to a tow truck outside and a man by our car. I immediately rush outside and ask the man to stop before he could hook it up. He asked how long I had lived in the unit and I told him just two day, thinking maybe he was looking for someone else. I reminded me that we needed our parking pass in the car which, I'll admit, was not hanging at the time. His first lie was telling me that he would be able leave and report it as a "Release at the Scene" as long as I had the keys. I said I absolutely did and stepped inside to grab them off the counter and when I went back out, he finished hooking it up and was starting down the road. I ran down the road and found him stopped in the middle of the road where he then told me I would have to pick it up from the tow yard. This individual's second lie was telling me that if I picked up my vehicle within an hour, it would be at a discounted rate. He said he couldn't tell me how much but that it would need to be within in hour. I asked for any paperwork on my vehicle he might have to help with the process and the tower refused. I quickly rushed back home and explained everything to my girlfriend who had her mother come pick her up to retrieve the vehicle since I had to start work shortly after. After eventually locating the establishment, though conveniently hidden, she was told that someone told me to schedule an appointment, which was lie #3. She called the location and was told "Hi please hold" and was immediately placed on hold. Though not illegal, just bad customer service. She was then told by two separate people that there was no rule on releasing a vehicle within an hour and that we'd have to pay the full amount of $440. She was then told the itemized amounts would be on the receipt of the payment. It says "5 miles @ $8 EA." "Gate Fee" is checked. And "Fuel Fee $15". Firstly, that doesn't equal $440. Second, it's only 4 miles, not 5. Google has it at 4.3 so it's not like someone rounded, lie #4. From my understanding, Gate Fees are assessed when pulling the car out after hours but we were only there before hours because the tower told us we had to go within an hour, otherwise, we could have waited the couple hours and saved us the extra money. Next, they have our car's condition written in as "Poor". There's a single scratch on it, no dents. There's a section on the receipt that says "Damage Prior to Tow" and it lists nothing. Now let's go into the law... ORS 98.853 states "If the owner or operator of the motor vehicle is present at the time of the tow, the tower shall release the motor vehicle at no charge unless the hookup is complete." The hookup was NOT complete and was NOT completed until the tower asked me to get the keys so he could release it. It also states "a hookup is complete if the motor vehicle to be towed has been loaded onto a tow vehicle, or if any part of the motor vehicle has been placed on or connected to an assembly that is part of a tow vehicle, such that the tow vehicle is capable of being in motion with the motor vehicle in tow." the mechanism was under the vehicle but was not attached until he asked me to get the keys. In addition, Oregon DOJ states "If you are present at the time of the tow and the hookup is not complete, the tower must release the vehicle at no charge. If the hookup is complete, they may charge a hookup fee, but not the price of a tow. A hook up is complete when the tow truck is capable of leaving with the vehicle, even if the tow truck operator is still working on making it completely safe to tow." I had such a terrible experience dealing with these people that I don't even know where to start. My car was towed after the city failed to drain a flood and my car got stranded in a dangerous area. Upon arrival to their business, they took more than 20 minutes to even greet me while I stood under pouring rain. When I knocked on the window to try to get their attention, they made a rude face, yelled "wait!" and put a hand in the air as if to tell me to shut up. I finally got some help after about 30 minutes and paid my fee. I had a tow truck waiting to deliver my car to a mechanic and instead of pulling my car out since they wouldn't allow my guy to go in to their lot, they left to go do another job and made me wait in the rain even longer. When their tow guy returned, I walked up wanting to ask if he was ready to get my car so I know what to tell my tow truck driver and the guy said "the more you talk to me the less I'll help you". Pretty ballsy of him, he must feel so safe hiding behind laws that prevent one from handling things man to man. Instead of simply answering my question, he invested more time into arguing and trying to belittle me, which took way longer to do.
