The cost is $7 each way. Drop off in front. However plan ahead like for any trip, get here at least 2 hours early in case of traffic. And don't be a seat hog. Put your luggage in the luggage compartments. Your luggage shouldn't be rolling down the aisles, hitting my feet.

Quick and convenient sums it up most of the time. This is an express bus with 4 total stops: Dulles…read moreAirport, Herndon-Monroe Park and Ride, Rosslyn Metro Station, and L'Enfant Plaza Station. The two metro stops are transfer points to other lines. Note that the pick up and drop off locations at L'Enfant are different. Depending on traffic, the trip can be from 30-60 minutes. Other than not having many stops, this bus is able to take Dulles Toll Road in the express lane. While this is an express bus to Dulles, it is essentially a commuter bus. This, there really isn't a place to put your luggage like the airport buses. If you intend to take the bus to catch a flight, plan accordingly. If major accidents/inclement weather occurs or its rush hour, the arrival time of the bus may vary. If there are people waiting, then the bus operators do their best to fit everyone on board. However, this can lead to people standing for the commute until the last stop. If you are pretty short and the bus is packed, aim to stand near the doors where the poles are or hold on to the headrests of the seats. Otherwise it's painful to hold on to the overhead bars for so long. The fare is $7.50 via SmartTrip card (can be bought at any metro station) or exact change. There is no metro operated vehicle parking at the two metro stations. The parking at Herndon-Monroe is currently free, but I imagine that will change once the silver line station there opens up. Then it will be $4.95. Dulles Airport has its own paid parking. Note that WMATA is considering ending Bus 5a when the silver line metro station at Dulles Airport opens. This is still a proposal and not yet decided upon as of February 2020.

What will $40 coupled with a dashing smile and a charming personality get you ? Well maybe that,…read morebut a more surprising answer awaits you at the end of this review. Yelp events always seem to be downtown and I live in Reston Town Center. It is clearly enlightened social consciousness rather than the furtive whispers one hears of proactively planning to partake of free wine that drives my use of public transportation to get to these events. Good planning by Miriam results in many of the events being located within walking distance of an Orange line stop. Bus Route 505 is the link between Town Center and the West Falls Church Metro station. Other than only having a $1 cover charge the best thing about this bus is that one can now use their SmartPass to pay. This aspect needs more publicity. I cite the female lollygaggers who flaunt all the principles of topology by managing to deposit well over 100 coins one by one into the boarding vending machine while everyone on the bus noticeably ages. There is no way a purse can actually hold all of those coins, then again this could be a masculine bias in volumetric perception. The relative bang for the buck that you get for your cover charge is highly correlated with the time of boarding. Basically be sure to ride after 10 pm. If your concept of value is more Swiss then don't board between 5pm and 6 pm. ESOL ? Anytime works. So in addition to Yelp parties this is also the bus one takes to get to Wolf Trap. Take the 505 to West falls Church and then get the shuttle. No problem, unless it is Sunday night. I learned the hard way that the shows let out after the last bus back to Reston. The shuttle bus driver said relax all will be good. After everyone else got off he actually drove us and 4 other friends back to Reston. The $40 tip made his day.

Beware of the North Garage Street Parking - Not Worth the Hassle or Risk…read more After over six months of ignoring complaints I'd heard from others about the way the North Garage (managed by Comstock) operates, I had my own frustrating and costly experience--and now I completely understand the warnings. If you're considering using the street-level parking near the Ashburn Metro North Garage, know this: it's a headache not worth the convenience. You must use an app to pay for parking, which not only adds friction to the process but also includes an extra "convenience fee"--a small but annoying charge on top of the regular rate. Unfortunately, if you miss even one step (like I did, missing the final confirmation button), there's no grace period, no warning, and certainly no effort to help you out. Instead, I returned to my vehicle to find a wheel lock security device suctioned onto my windshield, with a demand to pay $275 just to remove it. That's an outrageous fee for a simple parking mistake, especially when their system could easily be designed to give you a warning notification or text alert before escalating to extreme enforcement. Worse, when I called the contact number, I was met with indifference--zero care or concern from the person on the other end. To top it off, I had to drop the device in a return Dropbox that was left wide open and unsecured. I was so uneasy about it, I recorded myself dropping it off, just in case the company later tried to claim it wasn't returned properly. This whole operation feels more like a trap to penalize customers than a service to support metro riders. The system is poorly run, overly punitive, and completely lacking in customer service. They have the means to make this easier and fairer--but clearly choose not to. Avoid the North Garage street parking at all costs.
