Great Portuguese restaurant in a rural village where we stopped for lunch on the Sintra tour. As it was a special occasion, they welcomed us with bread, cheese, olives, wine, and orange juice. We had soup, entree, aperitif, and dessert. Everything was healthy and freshly cooked. I liked the cheese and soup and not the olives. I chose hake tempura for my entree. Turns out tempura is Portuguese and not Japanese. It was much more lightly fried than Japanese American tempura. It was drier on the outside with less oil. While that made it less rich and flavorful, it was very healthy and satisfying. They gave a bottle of ginja, a sweet Portuguese liqueur similar to cognac, as an aperitif. This was delicious. We had dessert, and I chose cookie cake. It had layers like a cake, cream and whipped cream like a pie, and a fruit glaze on top. It was very sweet and light. All this for just €20! Overall, it was a fantastic experience. read more
