I love the authenticity of this wonderful restaurant. The freshest fish I have ever had was put on…read morethe bbq and grilled right there in front of us. And wow was it delicious. 2 glasses of fantastic Vino Verde, a delicious tuna salad, the grilled sea bass (for 2) l, a large bottle of sparkling water and espresso to finish all for E58 - and did I mention the wonderful service. Go there !

Good English too! And of course I was sporting my orange alternate FC Porto jersey and they happen to be wearing them tonight against.... That team in Lisboa... what's their name??? Not sure if that gave us any brownie points or not but they were wonderful. The food came in waves starting with jumbo prawns then calamari so get we got a second order, more octopus salad the sea bass finally grilled octopus with veg. Everyone commented how fresh and very well presented and cooked the food was. We felt happy and relieved as this was our recommendation. So a party of 3 on a summer night alfresco, or a party of 7 in their lovely dining hall... you can't go wrong!

I was craving grilled fish! Twice a week we run the gauntlet of front line seafood restaurants here…read morebecause our português classes are here at the Mar port and we have to pass the incredible smells of seafood being grilled on charcoal. We have not been to this specific restaurant yet so in the spirit of equal opportunity for all of them we decided to give it a try. Specifically this one has a large outdoor terrace that is very long and accommodating for outdoor dining. Started its large prawns the octopus and finally he grilled red snapper. What a great meal to celebrate our one year anniversary of permanently moving to Portugal.

Was told to go to matinhos by a local and try the sardines even though I absolutely despise them…read more Walked by and saw this restaurant was grilling a bunch of them so knew this was the spot to try. Ordered 1/2 dose of sardines (6-7 pieces) and the monkfish and rice. I was blown away at how good the sardines were with the crispy salty skin. I honestly thought I'd have one piece and then be done but I couldn't stop eating it. The monkfish was a huge bowl filled with shrimp also and was made for sharing between 2-4 people. If I went back I'd just get the sardines. This restaurant seemed more formal setting which I'm not a big fan of. Service was quick even with it being very busy

This is an old school seafood restaurant that all the locals wait in line for. We pass this place…read moremany times on the way to other "front line" seafood eateries where there likely isn't a wait. But their menu equals all the others with one notable exception. Their shrimp in special sauce is to die for! Sure everything else is great but I've not tasted anything like this! I'm going back just to satisfy my shrimp cravings! A pile of rice and green salad with a beer... heaven! Definitely worth the wait in line!

The main uber cool feature of this restaurant is the massive outdoor grill with flaming hot coals,…read moredisplayed right outside the restaurant on the sidewalk. Yes, I mean, directly in front of the restaurant outside, in the middle of the sidewalk! It's where they flame grill your, fish atop a pile of red hot burning coals. Check out my pics.! There are several restaurants on this street with the same set-up, as this street is known for fresh seafood. Never have I seen a "cook-out" like this on any of the sidewalks in the good ole' USA!! I'm assuming there are huge safety regulations that would not permit this in the States. There are regulations for everything under the sun, except things that really need to be regulated. I would highly recommend any of the fish here, as this is what they're known for. We got a whole fish grilled sea bass to share, and they perfectly halved it, and deboned it for us. If you love octopus, or have never ever tried it, do it here! This was the most tender and huge octopus I've ever had, or have ever seen in as an entree! You've got to see my photo of this!! A massive, thick and long tentacle, simply, yet perfectly prepared with some olive oil, and accompanied by some potatoes with crispy skin! This truly was a dish of a lifetime, for me! Of course, we also had to get the fresh sardines, but unfortunately, they wouldn't be high on my list of recommendations. I'm not sure if it was because the two of us had ordered way too much food, or what, but I just wasn't a fan of them. Additionally, they were overly salted for my taste buds. Speaking of salt, that is why I'm giving this place a 4-star, as opposed to a 5-star rating. Depending on what you order, they seem to be pretty heavy handed on the salt. Not only were the sardines salty, but the tomatoe rice, which I newly discovered in Spain and loved, was so overly salted that we could barely even eat any of it. So disappointed by this. Had it not been for the inedible amount of salt they used, I would've easily brought it back to our hotel fridge and had it for breakfast the next day, as the portion of rice alone could've easily fed 6 people. Such a waste! The ambiance here is slightly upscale, and very pleasant. They brought to us the one waiter in the entire restaurant who spoke English to serve us, and he was great. It seemed predominantly frequented by locals, as it is pretty far out from the tourist part of town. It took us about 15 minutes by cab to come here, but glad we made the trip. I would definitely go out of my way to dine here for the food, and especially for the octopus entree alone. Learn from my experience, though, and request that very little salt be added to anything they salt, unless you're someone who likes adding salt to salted potato chips.

Good food and service. No complaints. One of the best meals in Porto. Worth a Uber rideread more

They gave us a great sample of all of the variety of dishes they served and we were very pleased with the delicious fresh fish options - and the octopus was exceptionally good. They also served some very good bread and a very savory vegetable soup as well. The service is also exceptional and everything was absolutely fresh and perfect for the palate. We were in a big private room but there were lots of customers in all other parts of the restaurant. I would recommend this as an option if anyone is stopping by Porto. This city has lots of great restaurants but this one is definitely worth going to for the abundantly fresh food they serve.

I don't recall being particularly moved by the parts unknown episode in Oporto , by Anthony Bourdain when it originally aired. No more than any other I assumed just another interesting place in the world I hoped to visit. Little did I know many years later, we would retire and move to Oporto. In fact the restaurant in Matosinhos he dined at is literally 5 short blocks away, we pass it on our walks to the beach. No longer tourists but ever grateful for however AB has informed, influenced or subliminally cajoled our collective psyches. We have come to appreciate the simple unadulterated pleasures of great seafood. We chose this restaurant for this special celebration of family, it was epic beyond all proportions. Perhaps I've waited far too long to quote AB upon seeing the platter of seafood put in front of him, "seafood platter...."! Massive inside but we had a corner all to ourselves We made pals with the wait staff and they gave us a full bottle of their homemade hooch. Excellent service fresh seafood great wine and family! Apparently I stumbled home muttering incomprehensible Portuguese. . We must have killed that aguardente!
