Since it was the first night of a girls trip to Quebec and I had never had poutine before we decided to eat here. I was curious about the classic poutine but when I saw the Mexican poutine on the menu, I knew I had to try it. It was so incredibly delicious! It was classic poutine but with beans, corn and other vegetables with guacamole and sour cream on the side. The atmosphere was very cool with music videos projected on a wall. The food was RICH - very heavy LOL. Of course we still ate every bite, because we didn't want to waste this opportunity and couldn't bring leftovers home. The portions were huge - I definitely recommend sharing plates, if you can decide on which one to share. I also recommend building your own - create something that you really want. If we return, i would steer away from one with a lot of sauce, because they put a LOT of sauce on it, and you can't (or I couldn't) eat it fast enough before the fries became soggy. Again...still ate everything because the flavors were amazing. The chicken tenders are quality chicken tenders - lean cuts - crisp - might be disappointing for those that are thinking fast food. On a recent cruise we had an overnight in Quebec City and were looking for something distinctly Canadian for lunch on our first day. One of the things that is uniquely Canadian is Poutine and Google Maps to us about Poutineville, so we set a course and started walking from the cruise terminal. Restaurant Poutineville Saint-Roch is about a 15 minute walk from the cruise terminal, and the weather was sunny and beautiful as we made our way there. Poutineville appears to be not much more than a storefront, but there's much more to it. We were greeted by a hostess who sat us down at a table for four. We were almost immediately greeted by our server, who thankfully spoke English fluently. We looked over the menu while he got our drink orders. There is poutine (fries, cheese curds, and gravy) and then there's Poutineville's take on poutine, many of which have an international take on the Canadian classic. In fact, fully one-half of the menu is international in nature. There is Quebec poutine, China (2 different versions), USA, and even Mexico poutine, along with others each with their own unique characteristics. There was no doubt that I was going to get the Mexican poutine. My wife had one of the Chinese versions. Between the four of us each one got a different international version. Apparently Poutiveville is known, also, for their Sangria. While none of us ordered any, I found myself thinking "I should have tried one of their Sangrias while I was there". Sadly, we never came back around. Less than 15 minutes after ordering our meals arrived. My Mexican poutine looked absolutely amazing. Each of our four meals was distinctly different, but looked very appetizing. I'm not going to lie - my Mexican poutine was amazing. There was a fair amount of "Oh, can I try that" going between our four plates. To be honest, I would have been happy with any of them, they were all so good. The décor of this location is quite welcoming. The stained wood and exposed brick is a look I've always liked. Our server was very attentive to make sure we had everything we needed and to see that everything was going well. We had apparently beaten the lunch crowd because the restaurant filled up as we were eating. There is a painting on the wall of a woman with black hair and a red top that I was completely enraptured by. Our server and a couple other employees didn't know anything about it other than it's always been on the wall. I was mesmerized by this painting. The restrooms are downstairs. Perhaps because it was my first meal since being up at 4:30 am, then having to get to the airport, fly an hour, and by the time it is 2 pm I am starving for lunch. The Mac N Cheese bites are an excellent starter, and this is a great spot for those just diving into poutine, an iconic Canadian dish consisting of French fries, cheese curds, and gravy. However, that is just a classic style. You can add things to it if you want, but this time I chose classic and it did not disappoint. It is a little pricey, and I felt it was slung out rather than truly cared for, which prevents it from getting another star. The food overall is tasty, but after I visited here, had no desire to return as I felt it did its job and served its purpose, like a MacGuffin in an Alfred Hitchcock film. I heard the poutine here is awesome so I dropped by to get a classic poutine one evening but I did not eat any. It was quite busy I guess with most tables filled. There were two servers. One was a guy who seated the group in front of me when I got there. Once they were seated, he went around the front passing and ignoring me then he walked around the bar didn't do anything then went in to what looked like the kitchen area for a bit. He came out and stood in a corner still without acknowledging me then a couple stood up to the front to pay. He immediately walked to the front as soon as he saw the couple. She then pointed me to a self serve machine on the side which did not have English translation so I asked her and she looked and sounded annoyed and tried to change the language but did not work so she told me to wait again. Soooooo good!! The fries is actually potato wedges. It has that nice crispiness as we bite it. The gravy has bit of that red wine flavour. Great combination with overall (the curd and pulled beef).
