Prawn appetizer also flavorful. Bread is wonderful. My companion had the baked fish special and he said it was good and fresh, but very plain in it's preparation. This is a good restaurant choice if you want a nice dinner (something different maybe), but didn't make reservations at any of the hot restaurants in the center. Decor is a bit old and tired. Waitress was in a t-shirt and jeans. I would return for sure.

I had found this tapas place on Yelp and bookmarked it. We wandered over, went inside to sit down at a table, but then decided to sit outside. We ordered a bottle of red wine that was fairly priced and food. It did not disappoint, but it started to get very claustrophobic once so many people started checking it out. PRICES - Personally, I thought the prices matched the portions, but I lived in NYC for a very long time. If you're coming from Spain, then yes, you will be paying much more than you normally would. But for great tapas outside of Spain, it's worth it. SERVICE - Our waitress was running around and it seemed that she was taking care of the tables outside AND some on the inside. She did a great job serving, bussing, and checking on everyone. We sat for quite a long time and not once did she make us feel rushed or that she wanted us to leave. GRILLED RAZOR CLAMS - SO good, perfectly cooked (not chewy or raw), and went amazingly well with lemon squeezes. Got some sand in one or two, but it didn't ruin anything for me. GRILLED SARDINES - This was my absolutely favorite tapas. There were 4 good sized sardines with herbs and rock salt spooned on top of each. The fish was so flavorful, fell off the bone(s), and the herbs and salt really enhanced the entire dish. CHORIZO + BREAD - This was too oily for my personal taste, but my Fi loved it. He soaked up the flavorful chorizo oil with the bread and created mini sandwiches with the thick meat slices. I did have a couple of bites and I will say that the chorizo had a bit of spice to it and the quality of the meat was high. BREAD + TOMATO + OLIVE OIL - If you want a simple, flavorful tapas, get this one! These 3 things combined hold their own in a sea of options on the menu. PATA NEGRA - Remember when I said that Fi ate 99% of the Chorizo? I ate 99% of the pata negra. I am obsessed with cured meats and this did not disappoint. The flavor came through much more than what you get in the States. Once we move to Amsterdam full time, this will be one of our go to places.

The food was excellent. I had a chicken dish with veggies which didn't really tell you how delicious it was. My husband had grilled salmon with really good rice and vegetables. We got delicious complimentary baklava for dessert and left two happy people. I definitely would be a regular here if I lived in Amsterdam. Go -- you won't regret it. (We also picked up takeout kabobs one right which were delicious too)

Therefore, Barca came to our rescue. Barca is a Spanish restaurant, so red wine is a must. And from what we discovered, Barca had the best prices for wine, compared to many bars we had visited. Glasses were about six bucks, US dollars, and the pours were fair. Yet, if wine isn't your thing, they do have a full bar. Many people were dining in, and what came out of the kitchen looked yummy! But the bar area that we were in was spacious and nice. Service was also very good. Glad to have found a place while traveling for glasses of malbec.

I really wanted to enjoy this place more than I did, but the menu is very limited compared to what I have seen in other tapas restaurants. I chose the croquettes and a toasted bread with a tomato topping. Both were okay, but rather bland. In my opinion, the menu could use a revamp.

We visited midweek without a reservation and were able to get seated right away. We sat inside at a table, although there were seats available outside. The decor and atmosphere are interesting and fun. Prices are in line with what I would expect for Tapas. Service was very quick and friendly. We settled on 5 tapas between 2 people. Portions were pretty big for tapas. I think my favorite was the Patatas Bravas (home-fry type potatoes with a spicy tomato-y sauce). Dátiles con Bacon (dates wrapped in bacon) were probably my second favorite but everything I had here was delicious and I would recommend Castillo.

The server admitted it was frozen out of a bag, just reheated. Gross. He recommended the calamari "next time". We also had the Iberian ham, which came out looking like someone had hacked it with a steak knife. Tasted fine, but wtf, I doubt it was the real product. Service was fine, ambiance is cute, but the place is Spanish in name only, don't be fooled. There won't be a next time. Place is a tourist trap. Good for a quick drink and then move on.
