You take steps down into a cave lake, looking beautifully decorated restaurant filled with twinkle and dim lights. Signed the guest book when you come down with any of the colored markers and grab your seat where you're seated. We were sat in the back corner of a booth with three kids. - our waitress was so kind and friendly and accommodating for kids. We came early to avoid the evening rush so we didn't disturb anyone. She made great recommendations and everything came out fast. - beautiful, delicious fondue. A great selection of meats. Definitely order their homemade sauces to eat. read more

We had a reservation for a late dinner around 9 PM, and the experience was okay. The interior has a darker, cozy atmosphere. The service was mediocre, and the waiter didn't really check in with us much, which left us feeling a bit overlooked. Our food took quite a while to come out. On the bright side, the food itself was pretty good. We ordered the Fondue Moitié-Moitié and the Farmer's Rösti--both were flavorful and decent. read more

Restaurant le Museum is a great spot for authentic Swiss food, including fondue and raclette . It's a bit off the beaten path, but actually a 7 minute walk from the lakefront and hotels. In the winter, the indoor tables are a warm and fun atmosphere. In the summer, the outdoor tables are beautiful. The food is consistently excellent and the servers work hard to take care of everyone. If I could give half stars, I would give Restaurant le Museum a 3.5. The fondue was incredible and by far the best we had on our trip. Leaving the traditional, we ordered the La valaisanne which adds tomatoes and some other ingredients to the fondue. It was SO good. We finished it not because we were still hungry, but because we couldn't leave any behind. The disappointing part of the meal was definitely the Entrecôte. Knowing now what I do about how this is supposed to taste, it didn't quite fit the bill. The steak was tough and quite fatty. I would go to a speciality restaurant for that in the future. Overall the meal was lovely. We ate outside next to their garden while the sunset around us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, but maybe skip the steak :) read more

Le Museum was recommended to us by our hotel. We decided to try their specialty, which is the BBQ grill your own beef. It was a fun and different experience and the beef is of excellent quality. It comes out raw and you grill each piece for a few minutes on a tiny grill they bring to your table. This also came with five sauces- curry, spicy, cocktail, tartare, and mushroom. We also had the prawns- note that they have the tail and head on, which I prefer. The flavor was wonderful - a garlic oil, not spicy to me. Appetizer salad was very simple, but I appreciated the flavorful, non-creamy dressing. Dessert was so yummy- chocolate fondue with marshmallows and a variety of fruit. Crème brûlée was OK. Service is a bit slow, so expect to be there a couple hours. The inside is very cool- like an old tavern. The history behind it is very cool and it's located by the museum. They also have fondue and beef or fish pots. read more

The quality of the food is amazing. I've had the cheese fondue which is a Swiss classic, and a 200g tenderloin. Probably one of the best steaks I've ever had and I've been to many steakhouses globally. The only reason it's not rated 5 stars is the young gentleman (the only male waiter that works there) is an asshole. The way he presented the plates to me were aggressive and rude. In addition, when I mentioned to him that I loved the steak and wanted to compliment on the cheese fondue, he walked away WHILE I was complimenting them and was talking to his colleague and both looked at me and laugh. He knew I didn't speak French so this definitely was an insult. I have no idea what his issue is, but this is unbelievably rude. read more

Nice typical swiss restaurant at reasonable price by swiss standards. From the lakeside you have to walk 10 minutes up the hill but the location and the food are worth the effort. Being up the hill in the evening it is always cool so if you wish to dine outside bringing with you a jacket or a sweater might not be a bad idea. The restaurant is located within the local museum premises in a 17th century building. If you are in montreux and like swiss fondues this is highly recomended. Some of the best fondue I've had in Switzerland, but also the priciest. Le Museum Restaurant is located a bit north/up the hill in Montreux, away from the main strip, but I guess it helps to have a bit of a hike before consuming a vat of cheese... can't say it was enough of a hike to feel as if I really deserved a 3,000Cal reward, but hey- I'll take what I can get! The restaurant itself has a bit of a medieval, romantic feel, with dim lighting, a sunken dining area, and lots of wood detail. Very cosy and intimate. For the price, though, the service left something to be desired. Although I don't expect American-type waitstaff checking in every 15min, we had the hardest time catching our server's eye to order wine and potatoes (our fondue didn't come with any), and we definitely got the feeling that we were putting them out with every order. Not sure if the service was worth the price, but if you're willing to blow some serious dough on some good-quality fondue then this is the place for you! read more

I had the opportunity to visit Le Museum for a work event. It was by far, the best meal I had in Montreux. The meal was traditional Swiss beginning with fondue and Charcuterie. There was a nice salad and the entree was a collection of meats with different sauces including chicken, beef and pork. Accompanying the meal were fresh veggies and a WONDERFUL "du Caveau" - potato gratin made with 10 types of Swiss cheeses. I would have given Le Museum 5 stars just for the potatoes. I think they may have outside seating, but the night we were there the weather was miserable. The decor inside is traditional alpine - a lot of stone and decorative antique farm implements. Le Museum is a must try if you are in Montreux. read more

I don't understand how others can give this restaurant such high ratings. They were way understaffed with those present moving incredibly slow. The speed of a sleepy snail with a hangover comes to mind. They only have one beer on the menu, which is a sour, unfiltered brew. I didn't like the menu options, nearly all options are for two or more persons, which makes it difficult for a small group or couple. Overall, we were extremely dissatisfied. read more

The Charbonnade de Boeuf is this place's specialty - it's a small charcoal grill set on the table. Each person gets a plate of thinly-cut beef steak to cook on the grill. This is accompanied by a variety of sauces and most probably the world's best Patates au Gratin (scalloped potatoes). The restaurant itself has an old-world charm, as if it was carved out of a medieval building. The exposed wood and plaster lending itself to this feel. The service is excellent and friendly. It's a bit on the pricier side, so not somewhere I visit often, however it is a great place to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or to bring out-of-town guests. read more

One of the hidden gems of lac Leman (Lake Geneva). Their Tomato or mushroom cheese fondue are amazing and of course their grill it yourself meats accompanied by their multi cheese potato gratin is out of this world. I truly love this place. The food was good but it lost stars due to the rudeness of a male employee who kept going on and on about a bottle of water I had on the table. I ordered water from them but apparently I could not have my personal bottle on the table. A simple request to let me know would be understandable, but the guy went on about how it's like me bringing in my own food to his place. We're talking about water here. I spent over $150 on lunch and he wants to give me a hard time about $3 worth of water in which I already purchased $10 worth for the table? Not a good experience. One of the best meals we have had as a family during our trip to Europe. If you're going to splurge, I can thoroughly recommend this place. We had a Swiss cheese fondue (Moitié-Moitié) and a beef grill (Charbonnade), and the kids had a ball dunking and grilling at the table. This place was off the beaten track but well worth the walk. We stepped into a dark almost medieval atmosphere. The seats were comfortable and the waiter engaging - we felt welcome. My wife and I ordered the grill it yourself beef and an agreeable Pinot Noir - from Montreux of course. The beef came as six or seven slices of tenderloin arranged on a separate plate for each of us, along with a hearty helping of the best potatoes au gratin we've had in a long time. The waiter brought a small charcoal grill, all ready to go, to the table along with five different sauces. We commenced to grill our beef with fondue forks and top the grilled steak with the homemade sauces. Now I'm normally not effusive in restaurant reviews but this was really superb! The beef was tender and the variety of sauces was exceptional. I particularly enjoyed the mustard based one and my wife liked the mushroom cream sauce. The wine paired well with the food and the waiter came around to offer seconds of the delicious potatoes. It could hardly have been a better dining experience. read more
