My 1000th review and I saved it for this lovely Persian restaurant that I found quite by accident strolling the beautiful Montreux promenade. The outdoor seating area has scenic views. Come early or during off-peak hours to snag a table outdoors. The interior is intricately decorated with old Persian tapestries, tiles, and other accents. The food - I was so surprised to have such good Persian food in the middle of Switzerland of all places. I started with the mint cucumber yogurt, which was refreshing on a hot day. For my main, I went with the barg kebab, which came with a piece of tadig (crunchy rice) which I loved. Nicely cooked kebab. The nice owner seeing that I was dining alone brought me a complimentary dessert - sholeh zard which was great, sweet, but not too sweet as it should be. Food and restaurant are amazing!! What isn't amazing is the service. We must have had 2 tables come in before us with water, drinks, breads etc even before we had anything. We kept having to flag waiters down, one after another to get us water, bread, wine, food, check etc. service is horrendous and not up to par. Now with that said, the food is amazing and the place is quite a spectacle. Depending on your taste, it could be beautiful or over the top tacky. Either way, it's super intricate and with beautiful tile work everywhere. We had the Iranian meal for two and the chicken was my favorite. They had lamb, kebab, etc. several types of rice with saffron, rice with pomegranate, and rice with green spice of some sort I couldn't figure out and a vegetable dish sort of like a soup that consisted of okra and other veggies in an oil and paprika base. The appetizers consisted of the best hummus ever, and eggplant dip, spicy tomato dip, tzatziki, yogurt with spinach, and potato salad. All were absent favorites. A must visit in Montreux, especially if you're a fan of Mediterranean (Persian food). Great Persian dishes in a Middle Eastern atmosphere. We enjoyed the food and especially Mr. Gharibi, the proprietor. He was most hospitable and spent quite a time giving us the history of his restaurant. We are planning to visit there again this summer and try out more of the delicious dishes. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant located water front in Montreux. The outdoor patio had an amazing view and inside of the restaurant had a gorgeous finish-out resembling Middle Eastern/Moroccan accent. The food was absolutely delicious and one of the best I have ever had. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner. He was very pleasant and welcoming! The service was on point and make sure you leave room for dessert. Their ice cream is delish! We had traditional Persian dishes such as Soltanian, and chicken kabob and both entrees were tasty and hit the spot. Also their house-made dough is perfection! Equally important to note: the restrooms were very clean and had an attendant cleaning them after EACH use! So glad we had a chance to try this place! read more

The place is an a beautiful location in front of the lake, a 2 mins walking distance from a parking lot, beside Migros center. The kebab was perfect, the kusksi chicken was not that good, it is an overpriced a bit to be honest, but the view worth it. What I did not like was the staff they were firm not smiling, one of them was a bit rude. Overall the atmosphere is good. read more

I truly hate it when someone prefaces their review by telling everyone that they come from the particular ethnic group that the restaurant comes from and that because of this they are somehow more qualified to tell people whether or not the food is good. With that said, I am Iranian/Persian/etc. and despite that fact I have to say the food here is delicious. Not because I'm Iranian, but because they do a really really really really good job cooking the food here. Their house red is one of my favorite wines on the planet. Their tahdig (crispy rice) was cooked on the bosom of an angel. Their stews and kabobs rock like the proverbial "hurricane" that would "rock you" that German super band Scorpion sung about in their 1984 piéce de rèsistance "Rock You Like A Hurricane". In short dear friend, regardless of your ethnicity, religion, or other self-imposed illusion of differentiation, this place is well worth the journey into the Swiss Riviera. Bon Appètit!! read more

An experience that you'll never forget. It's always a great "foodie" moment to go at Le Palais Oriental. The food is really good and the atmosphere is one of the best I ever known for a Persian Restaurant. Atmosphere 5/5 (+1 Bonus): The atmosphere of the restaurant is EXTRAORDINARY! Most restaurants would just take advantage of the view over the Alps and the Leman Lake but Le Palais Oriental also built a sort of Middle Easter Dom and there's an Art Gallery on the 1st floor. So not only you have a breathtaking view over the Alps, you are seating in a sort of mini-mausoleum. That's why I'm giving an extra Bonus point because 5/5 wouldn't be enough. Food 4/5: Food is really good and depending what you're ordering, you can get some really good dishes. What you need to know is that the owner is Persian so despite the fact the restaurant offers Lebanese or Moroccan food, stay with the Persian because that's what they can do the best! I ordered this time the Couscous Royal and the couscous was good, maybe not the best I ever ate but it was better than average. That's why I would stay with what Persian know the best to do, Kababs and creating Drama! But that's another story. Kababs are excellent choice, Baghalee Polo or the Lamb Shank is excellent as well. As a suggestion, if you're a party of 3-4, I would order a Mezze Plate as appetizer so everybody can get a quick overview of the different appetizers. Service 5/5: The service was one of the best I ever had in Switzerland. We had 3-4 different waiter throughout the Lunch. They did a REALLY good job at it and they were really friendly. Service is A++. So all this awesomeness has a price and entrées are minimum 35CHF per person. The quantity is generous as well. This is a restaurant you want to take time to enjoy the great food and environment you are in. So seat down, relax and enjoy the food! read more

We went bonkers on their menu. We spent all day on our feet and worked up an appetite. We had felafel, kibbe, labneh, salad, wine, beer and even chocolate mousse. Everything we ate was absolutely exceptional. The salad was my favorite. It was refreshing and the perfect meal on a hot day. The restaurant itself is beautiful and elegant. Truly recommended! We were lucky to get the table without the reservation( Montreux was quite busy in August when we visited). The location is beautiful- the lake side is just stunning! The food was great- not cheap( specially wines), but for Switzerland standard totally acceptable.The food quality excellent, and the portions are really generous! The service- mixed feelings- the girl who brought the food was polite and friendly, explaining the dishes etc., the other girl not so much... The atmosphere nice and cozy. Opulence and distinction. Those are two words that come to mind whenever I think of "Le Palais Oriental" First off, the decor of this restaurant is absolutely breathtaking. One would never think that they are in Switzerland if it wasn't for the gigantic lake that is right outside its door and the Francophone waiters and menus. Everything from the dishes to the menu and the blatant size of this establishment indicate to a visitor that they are not in a regular Persian restaurant. The food is very good, and by that I mean very very good. So good in fact that though I have had better Kabab Koobideh elsewhere I would still rate this place way up beyond a 5 Star as I cannot easily fathom eating at a superior persian restaurant without it being a State dinner of some sorts. Very nice restaurant. The food was excellent; had a couple of appetizers, Royal Couscous, and Kebab Kubideh. The location is great at the lake; sunset view was amazing from our table. Prices are Switzerland ridiculous of course. The service was below average taking a very long time for everything; taking orders, bringing checque, charging the card, etc. Only part was fast when waitress took the appetizers before we even finished :-) read more

I have great memories of this restaurant from college years, so i go there everytime I visit Switzerland. We spent a day in Montreux-Mint during Jazz Festival, walking by the way lake and had minth tea a l'african. Late lunch was great and staff was as friendly and corteous as always. The owner-Mr. Gharibi-is a kind man and is always present mingling with his guests and overseeing his staff. The prices are understandably on the high side considering the food and service quality and of course the location and breathtaking view of lake Leman. I strongly recommend dining there. read more

This beautiful Mediterranean/middle eastern restaurant is a great place to taste higher end Persian food . On the lake with gorgeous view. The place is full of the middle eastern arts and wonderful Persian rugs which are amazing. On arrival to the restaurant we were welcomed by the owner and head waiter . Very kind and professional manner . We looked at the menu, such a great variety of middle eastern / Persian dishes one after another one . The wine from local winery was great choice we made . The Kebob was fresh and so tasty , we had eggplant dish which is out of this world . The bread fresh and hot from oven . My wife who is chef in her professional life , was very impressed with my choice of this place for our lunch . She was happy with the taste of dishes ,freshness of ingredients and the service we got ; "finally you made a good choice of restaurant" . Good job !! This is a beautiful restaurant right on the lake. The food is fine but overly priced. My husband and I saw how large the portions were when we walked in so our plan was to order one entrée and an appetizer to split because we aren't ones to stuff ourselves with massive quantities of food. Unfortunately this restaurant doesn't allow you to do this. We even asked about a split plate charge and this was not allowed either. There were lots of tables open so it's not as if they were going to lose money if we ate light but we didn't feel like making a fuss so we both ordered entrées and sure enough, we could only eat less than half of the food. Thankfully, we were staying in a hotel room that had a small fridge, otherwise half of our $90.00 meal (not including beverages) would have gone to waste (or perhaps we could have sat there taking up a table until we finished it later that night?). If you are looking for a really pretty place to eat and don't mind spending twice as much for the same cuisine that you could get elsewhere, then this is a good choice. read more
