Visited this restaurant while on a business trip with some colleagues. Our table ordered the summer tasting menu. I have done many tasting menus before but the portions here were ridiculously small. The three of us had to split a tiny bowl of watermelon/feta salad which was less than one bite for each of us. I forgot what other dishes arrived but were equally small. The only slightly bigger dish was the main fish. Food was cooked well and tasted good but like I said, portions were too small to split when one tiny dish comes out and we had to split it between three people. Overall for the price, I don't find it worth what we were paying. read more

This is a fun, cozy place to hang out and have drinks, small plates and dinner solo or with friends. While I was solo, and I ended up sharing my table with 2 Danish young men. The staff is very friendly (Tjalfe was my server), the service is fast, the drinks are excellent, and the food is delicious!! Come early because it gets crowded around 10pm. Oh yeah, they stay open until 2am full service! Highly recommend the place!! read more

A relative of one of our favorite Copenhagen restaurants, Pluto, my friend and I made 9 p.m. Sunday reservations at Restaurant Gorilla. Here's our experience: 1) Food: Like most patrons, we ordered the chef's tastings, which comes with ten courses spread out over a few hours. Wine and drinks are separate from the tasting. To start, four appetizers came out with a warm plate of bread and salted butter. Then a fish dish, meats, endives and two desserts came out. Each dish was solid, but only the kombucha ice cream and one of the appetizers were out of this world. 2) Space: It's a large restaurant with tables throughout the space, including in the windows. We sat at a small table elevated in the window. 3) Location: It's in the trendy meat packing district surrounded by top restaurants and cafes. 4) Price: For an expensive city, our chef's tasting was around $65 per person- not bad compared to other restaurants! 5) Service: It was really good! Our reservations was at 9 p.m., but they let us in around 7:30 p.m. Each server explained each dish in Danish or English. The only odd thing was the spacing. a restaurant recommended to us if we were to ever visit the meat packing district. so... to the meat packing district we went! this place is pretty good. it was busy when we went but plenty of seating all over. our waitress was very friendly and offered her recommendations to us. the dishes here are "small", so they recommended for two people that we order at least 5-8 dishes. we figured we would start off with 4 dishes and order more if needed but that was actually plenty for us. the dishes were actually decent sized and not as small as we thought it would be. we ordered the beef tartare, bucatini, lamb, and fried cod. I'd say the dishes were decent but what stood out the most was definitely the fried cod. the fried cod was sooo so good! also it can get pretty loud in there. the people sat at the table next to us were practically yelling at each other and made this loud whistling noise every now and then. it made it slightly harder for us to enjoy our food. our waitress offered to move us to a more private area though since she knew they were being obnoxious. so thankful for her kind gesture. read more

A great place in the meat packing district. The cocktails are amazing and food and service were excellent. I had the steak tartare - so delicious. And the best rye bread I've ever tasted. His first thought was Gorilla, so we made a last minute reservation for 9 PM. We got there at 730 PM, but they found a table for us. - Location: Interesting. Maybe a spot in the meatpacking district is par for the course in Copenhagen, but it seemed slightly unusual to 4 guests who've spent most of their lives in the suburban US. Still, it was easy to find and offered good access to other parts of the city. - Exterior: The sign said it all. Not many things are called "Gorilla". Otherwise, the exterior was rather unremarkable. - Dining Room: Big, but attractive. It was very crowded for any night, but since this was a Monday we thought the residents of Copenhagen must either love the place, can't cook or just go out for dinner every night of the week. - Menu: Imaginative. Gorilla specializes in serving small plates or appetizer-size dishes of various foods...most of which seemed foreign to 4 Americans in Denmark. - Food: Overall good. Each person ordered 2 items, including falafel, lobster rolls, zucchini, brisket sliders, rigatoni, linguine and a fish. Although the orders were placed with our server at the same time, the food actually arrived in a staggered and somewhat random order. When 3 of the 4 people received both of their selections, one person still had not seen a crumb. - Liquor: A full bar and large wine list. - Service: Interesting. Did the kitchen cause the irregular food delivery or was it the server? Or maybe it was just a restaurant trying to manage hundreds of orders for hordes of customers. I should note everyone we spoke with was friendly and cheerful. - Price and Value: Reasonable. However, when the server brought 2 carafes of water to our table to get things started, we didn't think anything of it. Everyone in a restaurant gets water. However, when the bill arrived, we were charged $20 because it was "sparkling". They never asked us if we wanted "still" water. - Ambiance: Urban oasis. Lots of people in their 20s and 30s with a staff to match. Millennial heaven. - Noise: As befits a large dining room called "Gorilla", the place was LOUD. Would we recommend Gorilla? Gorilla was a great dinner option in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen. First of all, the service is really really good. The waiters were all genial and funny. I got a chamomile cocktail with passionfruit and vanilla foam and it was really enjoyable. My dad got a lemon thyme cocktail and it was also great so I would recommend ordering one of their cocktails. We decided to order a la carte dishes instead of going for the set tasting menu, but began our meal by sharing some starters. The oysters were chucked beautifully but the bloody mary sauce could have been applied more liberally. The pike ceviche was fine but could've had the acidity amped up more. For my main dish I got the linguine with mint and mussels and really loved the unique blend of the sea from the mussels juxtaposed to the freshness of the herbaceous mint. The portion size was also perfect for an entree. The chicken tikka buns are another must order. If you're in the mood for lobster roll, it's pretty good and very buttery. For dessert I got the oh-so dreamy chocolate cremeux, with milk crumble, and olive oil sorbet. It was delicious!!! It hit all the right notes of chocolatey, creamy, tangy, texture from the crumble. I will preface my review by saying I wish I had a larger budget for dinner because the two dishes I had were delectable, but coming into the end of my trip, I was starting to notice my budget a lot more. First, we came in and it was a very dimly lit restaurant which I personally didn't like too much. I had made a reservation a week in advance but even so we were seated in the busy corridor way where the waiters came in and out of (Kinda sucked but whatever). We ordered first the potato chips (basic I know), but these were ridiculously good. The potatoes were thin enough to see through, but still had a satisfying crack when you bit into them. Mixed with the sour cream and dill on the side, it was a great way to start the meal. For my main dish, I had a dill pasta that I can't find on the menu but I thought was absolutely stunning. Coming from the US, you don't see dill in cooking outside of pickles, and these little balls of pasta were phenomenal. Each one bursting with the sour tang of dill mixed with ricotta. I wish I had more to eat at Gorilla and will definitely be coming back to try a lot more of the menu. read more

I was skeptical when my Danish friend wants to try out a restaurant in the meat packing district with the name Gorilla. I have the vision of a theme restaurant with a stuffed gorilla in a jungle setting. Actually, the restaurant is simply decorated but the food deserves standing ovation. We opted for a 10 course sample dinner. All the dishes were well prepared, fresh ingredients and unique flavors. My favorites were the Pollack fish, pumpkin ravioli and the rose petal sorbet. Highly recommended. Great food, unpretentious setting and an affordable 70 euros per person including vino. read more

I stumbled upon Gorilla after being directed towards the meat packing district by another bartender. As a single female traveler I'm always looking for a busy enough place with a cool atmosphere and a place at the bar. Gorilla checked all those boxes and so many more!! Ambiance: classy, relaxed and slightly hipster meets romance. Food: everything was phenomenal! had 3 oysters - 2 with yuzo & coriander - which were honestly THE BEST oysters I've had in my life. (This coming from an east coast US girl who eats oysters by the dozen.) second course was beef tartare which was seasoned perfectly and perfectly portioned. Warm bread was served with a ghee/butter that needed a little salt to liven it up but overall a nice compliment to the raw meat. Finisher we're some grilled zucchinis that added some lightness (yes despite being squash) to the meal. I finished everything and was super full! Drinks: ordered a peach bulleit cocktail and it was complex and summery. As a whiskey girl I was excited to see this on the menu and even happier when I had my first sip. Service: the waiters and bartender were behind helpful. As soon as I ran out of bread I was given 3 more slices (which my waistline didn't appreciate but that's just me haha) and some more of their delicious ghee. The bartender was beyond gorgeous which didn't hurt - very kind, talkative and answered some of my questions on what to do the next day before my flight out. Came here while visiting a friend in Copenhagen, this place is in between at a 3.5-4 stars for me. The food was good and we had the 10 course meal with one person being allergic to eggs, and the restaurant was very accommodating. The courses were interesting and the portions were small but by the end you really were stuffed. The price is affordable, but they do charge for water as is typical in Europe (though it was about $7 cdn each). The flavours were good and the ceviche was fantastic. There was so much variety that it was hard to remember what we ate! I understand that the menu often changes here as well, which is good for returning customers. The servers at times seemed a bit rushed or overwhelmed as the place was packed, but all in all a good meal for a nice night out! read more

First the service is slow as hell They never came to refill our water They seemed annoyed that we didn't want the tasting menu and wanted to order a la carte The food came out slow and the tar tar was good and so was the lobster roll But then the 3 pastas we ordered took forever to come out and no one ever asked us to see if we wanted anything When the pasta did come out all 3 were small portions and extremely salty We got the oxtail pasta, linguini pasta and the escargot pastas. Actually way too much food for one person to consume:) the one star that is missing here is from their misunderstood way of keeping their red wine "fresh". They cool all wines from their wine card in the same room as they cool their butter and cream. How do I know? They sat me right next to the cooling room. In any case, hadn't it been for the waiter that tried to convince me that my 5 degree wine was actually room temp, I probably wouldn't have had a problem with the cooling room and had just let the bottle warm up a bit. I finally got to try this place, and it really is super yummy! A lot of places right now are into the small plates where you can try a little bit of everything, and that makes for a more interesting dinner. I had the 1- courses which had starters, a pasta, fish, meat and dessert. Out of the starters, I really enjoyed the beef tartare and the caper mayo to dip the chips in! For the fish, it was this great melt in your mouth lemon infused white fish with butter. For the pasta it was this salsiccia sauce where the meat had so many good flavors I couldn't count. But the highlight for me were these cheese balls that were just cheesy, doughy goodness made with 4 different kinds of cheese and didn't seem to exist in real life... Another highlight was the Peanut Butter and Jelly tequila cocktail. Super weird sounding, but it's interesting that it works. If you want a unique place to bring your friends, try Gorilla. I have now visited this soon to become a classic fixture in the Meat packing District twice, and I am totally hooked. The general idea in brief: The servings are very small. As in really, really small. You should not expect to be satisfied from one or two courses. In my book, this is an amazing concept - it means you get to taste a wide variety of pretty innovative combinations of ingredients and stuff you may not have tried ever before. Like black garlic, hangersteak, smoked marrow, crispy trotters, pork tail or pigeon crisps! At Gorilla, you can actually try all of these in one dinner and within a reasonable price range. Do not miss the sliders, but stay clear of the spaghetti with black pepper. That one was a disappointment, and 80 DKK is all too expensive for a plate of overcooked pasta with some cream and pepper corns. Gorilla, please, lose this one. It's the odd man out on an otherwise very interesting menu. read more

I went to Gorilla with my friend whom I was visiting in Copenhagen. Its a perfect place to share dishes at, however after our first dish arrived, our order got a little bit messed up and we ended up having to wait 45 min. for the rest of our food. The staff however apologized deeply and without further adieu offered us free wine and our came straight away. Personally, I wouldn't say it was the best meal of my life, actually kind of far from it, the food was bland and very small portions, we even ordered a squid dish and recieved octopus, which was the blandest thing I have eaten in my life. I regret ordering it, and to be honest I will never go back there to eat, but the night was saved by an extremely pleasant waitress, who never lost the smile on her face and answered all our inquieries. All in all, I would not reccomend it for a nice dinner but definetly for drinks. read more

The service is definitely spotty and it was SO hot in the actual restaurant. Luckily, we nabbed a high top along the windows, thus, allowing us to people watch. It's definitely in an interesting location. When walking to the restaurant I thought, clearly Google Maps led us astray. But don't be put off by the strip-mall look, the food is very well presented and good! I liked almost all of the 10 courses. I really detested one of the meat dishes. It was inedible. Most everything, from the fresh langoustine to the knudi to the passion fruit sorbet, custard and meringue trio was a hit. The only sour note was the tartar, which was unevenly cut; it seemed like the knife work was a bit shoddy. But given that we had 14 great plates and 1 ok one, I can definitely recommend Gorilla. read more
