Just a generally horrible experience overall. On July 27, 2026 the hotel manager threatened me…read morelegally via email, citing Swiss laws, because of my truthful review of their establishment and also threatened to contact a Swiss academic institute that I attended several decades ago if I did not remove my review.
This is the only real hotel in the town of Rolle and it's looks nice from the outside, but the property's negatives and the management's lack of empathy for guests go far behind just its lack of air conditioning, bad ventilation and safety hazards.
One of the most expensive units in the hotel consists of the two top floors and it has areas with dangerously low ceilings, an awkward design, and was unbearably hot, with no ventilating windows as they all faced up on the ceiling! Heat rises and being in the top floor made it even worse. The hotel provided one fan and some sort of portable cooling device, but it didn't work. The duplex room's design is also bizarre. Because it's a traditional slanted roof, some parts of the rooms interior were only 3 feet high near the closets and and it was nearly impossible not to knock your head against some areas of the vaulted ceiling when walking around. It also had a peculiar and awkward circular staircase that led to the bathroom downstairs. The bathroom looks quite fabulous with a gigantic Jacuzzi bathtub and dual sinks, but was almost unusable because of the layout. The whole design of the room was extremely awkward. There was also a single bed underneath a second staircase that leads to the exit door. The stairs are narrow, the metal frames shake and vibrate and were difficult to navigate. Unfortunately, the circular staircase in the middle of the bedroom is the only way to get to the toilet. Not to mention there are two separate staircases, one that goes to the exit door and one that goes to the bathroom downstairs. It's extremely complicated to have to walk down a difficult to navigate circular and narrow staircase every time you need to use the bathroom. The stair's construction is a safety hazard because it's very easy to fall and slip on them, especially at night.
As the room has multiple small single beds in various paces, it would be convenient if you had six small children, but for two adults it was completely impossible to move around with the maze like design and ultra low ceilings. Maid service did not come and reception downstairs said we had put the "do not disturb" sign on the door, but we had not; in fact I didn't even see that there was a "do not disturb sign" in the room until we were checking out. As with the other issues, the management feels that whatever they say is indisputable, and the client and guest are wrong.
With the incredible humidity and heat in the lobby it caused a lot of stress to me and my partner as we were having to discuss the bill and room issues with management in the hot lobby.
The management basically has the attitude that everything is the guest's fault. When I explained that the roof was incredibly low and I had bumped my head three times to the point that I had bled from my scalp she said "well you should've known that it was a low ceiling if it was on the top floor."
Also, the hotel breakfast is mediocre so I don't recommend paying in advance for it. It's actually a shockingly poor hotel breakfast for Switzerland, where I've usually always had very nice breakfasts at most stays. Try to go next-door to one of the nice restaurants on the main street like Christian Bollat for a delicious breakfast.
I very rarely write a negative review but it was a terrible experience and the reception was extremely unapologetic and unsympathetic. My personal recommendation to guests is to stay here at your own risk.
