Restaurant Depot of Needham -- 114 First Avenue, Needham Interior

Even though it's always convenient to have a membership to a wholesale club like BJ's or Costco when I need it, I didn't use it often enough to account for the $55 or $60 membership. So I ended my BJ's membership. But, I still needed to buy bulk food supplies for the summer program I work at, so I needed to find an alternative place. I heard of Restaurant Depot when I was watching "The Great Food Truck Race" now, and recently called them and was told that if I had I had a tax exemption certificate, I could become a member as well. So I got one from the town in which I work, and became a member here. It's not exactly like BJ's, it's more of an older, less shopped, and less well kept warehouse. They have less selection in the items I was looking for (ice cream, popsicles, and candy bars, snacks (pretzels, Goldfish, etc, etc)). It was, however, the best alternative to BJ's or Costco without the cost of membership, so I am grateful for that. In general, they seemed to have a majority of maintenance products and other "upkeep" supplies that a restaurant would need (hence, RESTAURANT Depot). Lots of other food things too, and tons of meats, seafood and other frozen and refrigerated items. Hence the reviews, I anticipate checking out the Avon store in the future. Also, if you haven't been here before, the entrance and exit to the parking garage are on the far side of the building, in the back. Weird setup, and something that just seems sort of like a disaster. -1 star for that. -1 star also for the unprofessional staff. They seem to enjoy joking around and being loud and obnoxious continuously. That's not how I would ever allow a business to be run if my name was on it, and I'm curious to know who actually would want that allowed. Overall, it's a-ok. 3 stars.

Basically everything that could go wrong did. I just went through all my email exchanges with this…read morecompany so I could faithfully document my insane experience with No Sweat: I get a couple initial quotes, for 3 different kinds of t-shirts. I tell him we decide to go with option 2. I send all files requested (high quality jpegs) as well as pictures of the shirts we made with the volunteer screen printer for reference regarding placement. I also send Hex codes so we can get the colors as close to correct as possible. Next contact: he asks for me to call in Amex. I call in. I ask to confirm that these are the nicer fabric. He says no and doesn't remember anything about that. (??) I forward him the invoice he sent me. He writes, "I hate mistakes but nipping them in the bud is a special kind of nice. AOK?" So i call him and give him the number. Next day he says the card didn't go through and I give it to him again. Card goes through... A week later he says he needs the PDF file (before he said a high quality jpeg would be fine, which is what I sent earlier). He says the printer he will use for this job requires a PDF. No prob, I convert and send pdfs on the same day at 6:45PM. I also resend all the instructions, including the images of the original shirts made with the volunteer. Get no confirmation of receipt. He asks again for a PDF file and tells me he can't do anything with an .ai file, and is getting pissy : "You're the 1st customer I've ever had (in 15 years!) that could generate an .ai file but wouldn't send me a simple pdf." I'm baffled by this because I have sent him a PDF and not an .ai file. When i ask him to send me the .ai file he thinks that I sent, he sends a DSA socialist image that i have never seen in my life (!!) and that apparently nearly made it on our t-shirts, lol. (We are a healthcare organization). I forward him the email I sent on the 11th, which had the necessary PDFs and all instructions. I do this politely after getting a lot of angry emails: "I'm not a salaried worker. I get paid for what I produce for my customers. Please respect my time." Hear nothing. On Sept 18, finally hear back. He says "Thanks, Stephanie. Not sure how that one got away from me. Here's the printer's proof. AOK?" So no apology for totally flipping out over his own mistake. He sends printer's proof with sizes of logo on front and back. Sept 19th: We email back, saying everything looks good except maybe we should make the logo on the back a tad smaller so it doesn't curve around. No response. Sept 21: It's getting close to the date that we agreed on - Sept 28 - and no word from him. So i poke and ask about just getting the last proof OK'ed. I say I just want to make sure we get them on Sep 28, as we agree. Sept 22: He sends me the OLD invoice- with the order for the basic tees, the mistake i caught the FIRST time, and should be obvious anyway because they had a different price on them. (AHHH!) He responds: "Well that was certainly a close one.." and has to move everything around (including using a new printshop in Vegas) because he was ABOUT to fulfill the order with the basic tees! (not the nice ones we paid extra for...) Sept 27: It's like 3 days before we're supposed to get the shirts for the event...and he sends the final proof. This proof looks different because it's with a different company, and it's the damn 3rd proof that we've gotten, so i sort of gloss over the fact that the orange looks a little lighter than the hex code I sent in. But the lettering is at least a shade of orange, and we are now 3 days out and don't have time to adjust things. He says it's going to cost an extra $50 for shipping (because of his screw up!) and I say we shouldn't have to pay extra to receive them on the day we agreed. The "orange" ends up turning out a BRIGHT yellow. If you send in a hex code that's a deep orange, you should get something at least CLOSE to that color, esp. since you have to trust the printer/designer because color can show up very differently on a proof from one computer to another. He clearly didn't send the color codes along to the printer. So in the end we didn't even get the product that we ordered. Basically I feel like I had to watch every damn interaction like a hawk because of all of his screw-ups. Also he was incredibly rude, patronizing to me because of my age (explicitly!), just really horrible to work with. We will never use again.

The woman that I spoke to, I told I could send a picture of the ring and I am not technical at all. I am a retired chef and I worked in the restaurant industry for 40 years. I could not send the photo to her and she said to me "since you're an influencer on TikTok and You cannot send me a picture I no longer have any interest in this conversation" and hung up on me because I don't know how to use a phone or she was having a bad day? anyways I needed to put my two cents in because whenever I posted on the TikTok they immediately take it down so we'll see what happens with this I demand an apology. I did nothing wrong.

I am not in the habit of writing critical reviews and I recognize that others might have different…read moreexperiences but I found the pricing to be significantly higher than most other jewellers for simple items like gold necklaces or bracelets. I didn't look at any rings or much else but it seems like the pricing is about 150-300% above other places for comparable items. They offer the item for less than the sticker price so you end up paying 75-150% more than elsewhere. Their selection is nice so if you intend to shop here, come in with an idea of how much something should cost. Of course, some jewellery is subjective but for simple items, there's only so much room for profit before it feels dishonest. Selling things is also not ideal. I won't elaborate here but suffice it to say, it is never a good sign when a jeweller weighs your pieces in a back room. Standard practice is to weigh in front of the customer. Not here. Also, be prepared to have the authenticity of your gold challenged. Using a chemical to convince you that your gold is actually not 14k or 18k so that they can make a lower offer was disappointing at best. A small example: I was offered nearly twice as much for a gold piece at another store. Lastly, do not bring any silver coins here unless you just want to sell for metal. The owner tried to convince me that some near proof Morgan dollars were only worth $18 each. Fortunately I didn't sell them and went to a coin shop. I was subsequently offered nearly $700 for three coins. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. The people at Marquis seem friendly and they have a nice selection. Just don't expect very competitive pricing and be wary of selling precious metals. Also I would recommend selling coins elsewhere preferably to a coin dealer if you want to get a more realistic estimate. Overall, like I mentioned, there is a lot to see at Marquis but I have trouble recommending Marquis unless you are happy with their options and pricing. The friendly staff can't compensate for questionable business practices. I'd be wary of selling anything of real value.
