Friday nights: I've come here quite often with friends and a group of children and they have always been very accommodating and welcoming. There's a seating area with couches and coffee tables for the children to relax in after the dinner is over and while the adults linger over their wine... Not too long ago, there was a football table for kids and adults alike but some bad mannered children killed the fun for all when they tried to score extra balls by stuffing the exit hole with paper. It was a sad night indeed because it seems that the cafe owners have decided not to repair the table. Weekend brunch: Be sure to call in advance to reserve a table for sat or sun brunch because Cafe des Avenues buzzes with activity during the weekends. THe brunches are popular for families. Serving american pancakes, crepes, eggs, bacon, omelets....this place is as close to home (gastronomically speaking) as I'm gonna get. Weekday: With the exception of lunchtime, the cafe is quiet and the perfect place to get some work done. During the week, you will find the cafe scattered with people working on their laptops, sipping their cafe or tea and nibbling on a croissant or one of their excellent goufres.

I had the tartare de boeuf avec crostinis. I had the beef a bit spicy, which is exactly how I wanted it, not overpowered with spice, but just enough heat to feel each bite. both of us were happy with our choices, and hope to come back soon. I will add that the kitchen will not open up until 6:30, as with most cafe's and restaurants here in Lausanne , but you can have a few drinks and talk while you wait.

The food was great and abundant! We ate most of it as we were hungry but if we ever come back, we will definitely share a big breakfast. My server, Kate (or Katy) was friendly, helpful, and extremely patient as I was struggling to choose among their great selection of loose-leaf teas. I ended up getting jasmine tea (in the most adorable ladybug tea set!), along with a Liege waffle and berry jam. The Liege waffle came out warm. It had a great texture and its sweetness with the berry jam pleasantly offset the slight bitterness of the jasmine tea. I was there at around 8AM. There were other customers, but it was not too crowded, nor loud. Most people were reading while enjoying their tea or coffee. As always, this café is adorable, and definitely a repeat destination whenever I'm in town!

It is now 3rd day since I started this business travel. Today, I had breakfast at Dresden. Since then, I have not had any decent food. It is lucky to come across a Korean diner Saturday evening. I was just of out my hotel for dinner, but I did not expect I would come across a Korean diner. Anyway, the food was ok in a sense that it satisfied my hunger to Kimchi. Sticky rice was too dry so that it became rigid. I had Kimchi stew. It was mild spicy but it is very hard sense freshness in the spicy hot. Overall, it is not bad at all. In a sense, foods are decent and overall atmosphere of the diner was clean. However, I cannot rate it as nice Korean food.

Atmosphere 4/5: Nothing fancy or too weird. The restaurant is well located and close to the main Bus station "Saint Francois". The place itself looks like a modern ish Cafe Restaurant. Food 5/5: I was delighted both times. First time, I had a Salmon with Mashed Potatoes and I had the second time, a Hashi Parmentier which was EXCELLENT. It's one of their specialty there and it comes with a Salad for 18 CHF. Service 5/5: The staff is friendly and professional. They make sure to accomadate you to the best they can get you. The service is quiet fast if you're short on time. Last but not least, make sure to reserve your tables during Summer time on the Terrace ahead of time because they tend to be most of the time full by the time you get there even at 11am.

The food is great and if you get good service, the experience is worth it. However, you should expect to wait a while to have anyone come acknowledge you and plan to wave the waiter/waitress down a lot. I've been here for brunch on a Sunday and the food was pretty good. I went again for dinner and it was tapas style. It is a great way to taste a lot of good foods. The tartar was just ok, but the later night menu items were really good. Plan to make a reservation early enough if you can, otherwise tables are nearly impossible to get. So overall - good food and probably worth trying to get to in Lausanne...but prepare correctly!
