It's a buffet, so I got my food first. I loved all the choices. As I went to pay, I noticed the folks ringing us up spoke english. Phew! I asked if they served wine, and he joked with me saying "But of course!!!!" Then Hubby went to get his food. We sat and relaxed. No one rushed us out when we were done. It was a great friendly place to wait for a train.

Although we were there on the opening night, we had to wait only thirty minutes and the service was excellent. Located in the historic western wing of Lausanne train station, the location is in itself amazing, with restored frescoes covering the ceiling and the walls. Now, for the food. It is freaking fantastic. You two self-service bars - one for deserts and one for the entrees. All the food is vegetarian, a lot of it is as well vegan; I believe all the deserts are vegan as well. The entree bar has two levels - one for hot foods, one for cold ones and is organized as a ring. After you fill your dish on the ring, you can take a piece of bread for free (there are gluten-free bread options), and you need to go to the bar to weight your food as well as to get drinks. The selection includes several cocktails, wines, beers as well non-alcoholic fancy beverages and the hot stuff - coffee, chocolate, teas. For me, I have sampled the entire hot bar and took the cheapest glass of white wine they had. Not only I was not disappointed, but I was also amazed at the quality of the food - everything I tried was absolutely delicious, with a special mention for their stuffed peppers and vegetarian falafel-like balls as well as vegan tartar. I am a meat-eater myself, so quite often I tend to find vegan/vegetarian cuisine lackluster, but this was absolutely not the case. The wine, despite its low price, was quite good and paired well with the dishes. As soon as we were finished with the main dish, we went to grab some deserts with hot drinks. Whereas my friends opted for hot chocolate, I made a strategic error of opting for a cold one. The crucial difference is that cold chocolate is cold milk with powder, wheres the hot one is the hot milk with an actual lollipop of chocolate on a wooden mixing spoon. Fortunately, I was able to avenge myself by getting the last pieces of the cheesecake (I believe without any diary in it). The dates were heavenly as well, whereas all the other desserts had a bit too strong of a flavor of soja milk for me where I would have expected the normal milk. Overall, I tend to eat quite a lot, which is sometimes a problem in European restaurants. In this case, I was pretty well satiated, without overeating, for only 35 CHF, including everything. For a restaurant this quality in such a location and with such a great environment in Switzerland, it's a more than decent price! Overall - would absolutely recommend, you should definitely check it out if you are vegetarian/vegan or have friends.

Finally was able to check this place out at lunch time yesterday, after hearing so much about it…read more There are not many burger places between Geneva and Lausanne, and those living here have very strong opinions regarding which grills up the best patty. This location is often argued to be one of the best. The location is easy, just a few steps away from the Ours Lausanne metro stop. The place itself is tiny and they squeeze as many seats in as possible. You can make reservations for a table if you call in advance. If you are more than one person, I would definitely recommend it. The menu is simply burgers - beef, chicken, fish, veggie. You have a choice for an additional cost of adding a side of salad or fries. There are also a few dessert choices, but I didn't see anyone get any, probably because there is no room left after packing away the burger. While you can order to take away, not all the burgers are available for that option. I ordered the Marius burger with frites. The salad looked fantastic as well, but I had to try the infamous frites. Everything was delicious, and the fries definitely lived up to their reputation. I still think for overall quality the burger bun at Rando Burger is better. Putting this burger place as my new second favourite for the area, closely followed by Inglewood as third. I had no complaints regarding the service. Also, be sure to end your meal with an espresso! One of my highlights was receiving my espresso in a Victorian tea cup, with a bite size nibble of their homemade brownie resting along side of it. Very cool. Plus, the coffee was good! Unfortunately, like most places, Zoo is only open Monday - Saturday. Interestingly, they are open for food 11:30 am- 10:00pm. But, per their website for drinks only they remain open until 12:00pm.

I've ordered a lot of veggie burgers over the years (from all over the world) and these are the best I've had. They are so good, I 'be gone there two days in a row. I'm not the only one who thinks these burgers are amazing which is why Zoo Burger is packed. If you want to sit down and enjoy your burger, you need to reserve in advance. But fear not. Pin Up Bar next door will let you sit in their venue and eat your burger. This gives you the best of both worlds as Pin Up Bar has a more extensive wine and beer list and you get to eat you meal without being squished. Bonus!

I've known the Café Java since back in 2004. The place hasn't really changed that much. What I like…read moreabout Café Java is its sort of boudoir/bookstore atmosphere. The food and drink menus are inspired by famous French singer Serge Gainsbourg and his several muses Janet Birkin and Brigitte Bardot. The staff is polite and friendly. They have year-round food menu, and a seasonal menu. Since it's winter and it was snowing heavily outside, we (3 of us) went for seasonal ingredients, nuts, pumpkin, and crêpes. My winter salad was very tasty and big enough. My friends each ordered a crêpe, spinach and goat cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese. Each crêpe was served with a mixed-greens salad. The smoked salmon crêpe was a little too salty, but still tasty. We all ordered dessert. I had a brownie and caramel ice cream. The brownie was a little too big and too dry to my taste. I had tasted better ones at Café Java before. One friend ordered the 'moelleux' which wasn't moelleux (soft, melting) at all. She pointed it out to the waiter who passed it on to the kitchen. They offered a voucher for a dessert, something you won't see much in Switzerland, where most of the time people will say 'well, too bad' and don't do anything about it. My other friend ordered a nutella crêpe, which could have been a little more 'loaded'. I guess she has a sweet tooth. We had an overall very nice experience, the waiter who waited on us was helpful, though quite stressed and busy, and made sure we were having a good time. There is free WiFi, just ask for the credentials.
