Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly host who guided us through their entire selection of chocolate as well as what chocolate Switzerland was known for. He was also kind enough to let us all sample 2 chocolates. Our group ended up buying 40+ pieces across the 4 of us, which we readily consumed over the next 2 days. Each piece was as rich and unique as was described, and certainly gave us a good start to our Switzerland chocolate experience.

The prices are high, as they are in any gourmet chocolate shop around Lausanne. The lowest price I found was around 5 CHF and it went up from there. They have amazing individual chocolate selection at the cash register, which is priced by weight and comes out to around 1-2 CHF per piece. The associate was so kind and helpful - honestly the friendliest person I met in Lausanne. She also gave me a free piece of chocolate (you get to pick) when I checked out! The best part of the experience was that when I paid and had to select USD or CHF, she said she recommended CHF - that is the better exchange rate and she was nice enough to mention it. I highly recommend coming in if you're in Lausanne!!

They offer an assortment of beautiful chocolates such as pralines and truffles. I went straight for the tablets and of course the dark chocolate type. I brought a big stack home of Madagascar 64%, Grand Cru Ecuador 70%, and Trinidad 80%. They were the most I've spent on a chocolate bar, but I wanted great Swiss chocolate. Next time I'm in Switzerland, I'm going to make one of my days a chocolate crawl.

However, Vevey also houses a Laderach store, a family-owned chocolatier and considered the premium chocolatier in Switzerland (kind of like an anti-Nestle, I like to think). At any rate, I've been searching for a high-quality boutique chocolatier ever since my favorite Belgian one (Manon) sadly closed a number of years ago. Nothing has ever matched Manon's standard imo - until I tried Laderach. It is very very good and very similar to what I had with Manon. I chose an assortment of Laderach's chocolates and truffles - and they had a terrific assortment such that I agonized and despaired over which ones to select - and brought them carefully home in my carry-on. My wife and I ceremoniously opened the box, partook of a couple each - and omg, what fine chocolates these are! Rich buttercream fillings, strong coffee flavors, dusky dusty truffles - can't wait to return for more! I hear they've opened a store in New York City, so will be checking that out over the holidays!
