So Vevey - in addition to being the final resting spot of Charlie Chaplin - is also the headquarters of Nestle, world-famous (among other things) for its milk chocolate confectionaries. However, Vevey also houses a Laderach store, a family-owned chocolatier and considered the premium chocolatier in Switzerland (kind of like an anti-Nestle, I like to think). At any rate, I've been searching for a high-quality boutique chocolatier ever since my favorite Belgian one (Manon) sadly closed a number of years ago. Nothing has ever matched Manon's standard imo - until I tried Laderach. It is very very good and very similar to what I had with Manon. I chose an assortment of Laderach's chocolates and truffles - and they had a terrific assortment such that I agonized and despaired over which ones to select - and brought them carefully home in my carry-on. My wife and I ceremoniously opened the box, partook of a couple each - and omg, what fine chocolates these are! Rich buttercream fillings, strong coffee flavors, dusky dusty truffles - can't wait to return for more! I hear they've opened a store in New York City, so will be checking that out over the holidays! read more
