My friend and I were completely caught off guard in Switzerland with everything closing at 7pm (on…read morenon-Thursdays!), and with no supermarket open to buy desserts, we made our way to Gelateria Venezia instead! This place was a pain to find because it's located at the corner of a long street downhill near the shore, but it was worth the trip, especially because there aren't many other ice cream places in Nyon! I got the chili dark chocolate - as are most things in Switzerland, it was pretty expensive so I only got 1 scoop. This place has no-nonsense, super creamy gelato. The hint of spiciness was a great, zesty twist of flavor and added a welcome addition to the core, creamy dark chocolate. I'm actually really glad they had a flavor this unique in Europe, as I was beginning to miss the peculiarity of savory / spicy + sweet combos that is booming in New York. Plus, I was impressed they had dark in Switzerland, a country dominated by its more well-known, sweeter milk chocolate. Also definitely helps the waffle cone was fresh and delicious, and added a welcoming texture mix!

Yelp Review 2026 #157:…read more I had already went to Laduree in Montreux in the morning. Lausanne isn't far from Montreux but I went to Laduree Lausanne even though I already got macarons. This location is bigger and cuter than the one in Montreux. I got finger patisserie in pistachio, and chocolate caramel hazelnut, and a jar of chestnut cream. I also got a cute pink coffee cup and a tote bag because I picked up some chocolates and the paper bags were heavy they started ripping. The macaron flavors are the same for the whole country. The only difference for this location is that they can print "Lausanne" on your macaron for an extra 0.80CHF. I didn't need any more macarons though as I still have 2 unopened boxes of them from Montreux. The desserts from Laduree are always good. Service was ok.

Their menu highlighted Movenpick ice cream, waffles, and paninis. My husband and I each grabbed a waffle with a scoop of Movenpick (creme brulee). Usually, there is only one flavor of waffle to chose from - normal. However, this place offered a apple cinnamon waffle. The waffles are pre made and left waiting for someone to pick them. My husband's was warm, but hadn't asked for his to be reheated, and I chose the apple cinnamon which I had reheated on the grill. The reheating made all the difference. I was really enjoying mine, and while my husband liked his, it wasn't as good. The reheating made all the difference in the world. The ice cream itself was Movenpick perfection. Also, extra kudos for extremely friendly service done with a smile. Interesting note: while this place doesn't have a website, they do have some promo videos on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWLEaF1KaGA.
