I first talked to Republic when I was at the Home Show in Springfield. While I was there they explained their services and the contract. Both the prices and the services offered were better than we were getting from Waste Management, so we signed up. We never had any problems with the pick up service we received from Republic. There was one snow storm that they were not able to service the city. They pushed service out a week, but we were allowed to put out extra bags for them to pick up that next week. When we moved out of state all it took was one simple phone call to cancel my service and have them do a final pickup of our trash cans. It couldn't have been easier. read more

This has turned into the worst trash pick up service we've ever had. Recycle pick up missed on Monday. We were promised it would be picked up by the end of day. Tuesday, still no pick up. Once again, we were told it would be picked up by the end of day. Tuesday evening, still no pick up. We paid for a service they, knowingly, fail to provide. The next step is the Attorney General. Don't waste your time, or money, with this company. They lie to get you off the phone, they have horrible customer service, and when they do provide a service, they carry your trash can down the block and onto the road when they decide to put it back down. read more

Well........where do I start? We had a 4 yard dumpster picked up every other week pickup with an annual payment that was $600.00 per year back in 2022 then in 2023 they raised it to $1000 until i called them and spent a ton of time on the phone and all of the sudden they had a promotional rate back down to $601.00. It has went up in 2024 and in 2025 we paid $1,122.00 for the whole year. This year they raised it to $1750.00 after tons of phone calls they came down to $1450.00 they said the reason for the increase to $1750.00 was because of fuel increase. It's a constant battle with this company. We have had republic for 16 years at our company and this week we kicked them to the curb and switched to lake area a local trash pick up service because they were cheaper than last years price! I will tell everyone I know who has republic and get them to switch to someone else! I wish you could give someone zero stars because thats what they deserve read more

My garbage services was change from Waste Management to Republic Service, due to rerouting. I really didn't have a choice but to accept but to make a long story short the service has been unsatisfactory. They have had to replace my can twice due to damages on their part. They have been late many times as much as three days late without notice. And recently they are send me notices that my payment has been declined by my financial institution. This I don't understand because the bank doesn't see this claim. When I make a payment I receive a confirmation number and they still claim they are not receiving payment. Been with this company for at least a year if not more and never have I had this problem. Something definitely needs to be done to correct this problem. They are defrauding elderly customers. I got a pre-collection bill for her trash after she was moved to a nursing hone. I turned in the trash cans to get a credit on her bill then they told me we owe nothing. Then I got a collectiin Bill for the same amount plus interest. I plan to report both companies to a federal agency. read more

To start, waited almost 2 weeks for a can to be dropped off. Now the first week of pick up, and trash is still sitting out front on the curb. The week after a holiday, so the bin is full. Lid won't shut. Picked up recycling (bin half full) sitting right next to the full trash bin. Call at noon to report the problem. No care in the world. Wild cats, family of ground hogs, raccoons and opossums will have this trash all over the street and yard! Their driver or administration will not be responsible for clean up, I will be. Because they didn't do their part to pick it up! Want to send a driver at a later date. Smh. I have had it with this company. I am constantly having to call them, and wait on the line, just to ask them to come and pick up my trash. Week after week! Seriously, I looked it up, I call them no less than 2x a month...no less...usually every single week! I pay for a service that I have to stop everything and call them and beg them to please just do what I am paying for! Of course, I get bills and if I am late, oh my God, they are going to halt my service... but they can be friggin late every week and I have to call. Let's be clear, I am never outside of my billing date. I stopped my automatic payments because I am not getting what I pay for. It's not that hard, just pick up my trash...on the day...even the next day...or the next....just do what I am paying you for! Had Republic for 5 years now since moving into my home, never had any issues. I love the huge recycling bin, too! $45 every 3 months for one recycling and one waste bin, perfectly reasonable. Never had any missed pickups, just had to confirm where the cans were expected to be on pickup days when I moved in. read more

I was very much impressed with our service in Spfld IL today. They picked up my recyclables and a gust of wind came up. Some of the trash blew out and a worker got out of the truck and picked every piece up that landed on the ground! Much appreciated!!! read more

What joke this company is! You tell them you're done with their service and they just keep billing you. Then they call you constantly and threaten to turn you into collections. Yesterday one of their employees came onto my property through a gate and stole my trash can. 8 years ago i had their service and they started raising the price every 3 months while none of my neighbors prices went up. Earlier I wrote a review regarding the outlandish overcharge from Republic Services. While the review shows that they did respond by requesting additional formation, the answer we received was that they were no longer able to help us because we have canceled the services. I have never had such awful service than during my time with Republic. this last year has been especially horrible. Missed pickups every single month, my trash can keeps being taken by them on my pick up days too. it's happened 3 times now and every time is a 2-3 week wait for a new trash can even though they're the ones who took it. This is by far the worst trash company in my area. At this point, I wonder if they even collect trash. They have missed my trash can for the last two weeks. I have called a minimum of 8 times since they first missed, and every time I've been told someone will be by either that same day of the next. No one shows up, and I have to call again. My issue has been "escalated" every time I call, which means absolutely nothing. I get the same response every time I call, and every time it ends up being a lie. My trash can never leaves the road, and it's been picked up in the same place for the last four years. At first, I thought it was some elaborate prank that they don't come get my trash. But at this point, it's just become really sad. My trash has been piling up over the last 2.5 weeks, and now neighborhood critters are getting into the bags. And not once over the last 8+ phone calls has anyone offered to credit my account for the two missed pick-ups. I'm sure they will respond this this review with a "canned" empty message, fully of fake apologies and excuses. I just want them to come collect all the trash, so I can switch services. read more

I don't have a problem with garbage pick-up; but I do have a problem with the staff who take care of bills. I paid my December bill; and have continued to get notices that my payment is overdue. I called them and all they told me was they didn't get my payment even though is was processed by them. It just didn't go to my account. They told me to contact my bank and tell them to send the paperwork to them that shows I in fact paid my bill. I did that and have a copy of the paperwork the bank sent them. That was two weeks ago; and this week; got an automated phone call telling me if I didn't pay; then would cancel my account and charge me a fee. Then today; got another bill from them saying they are going to shut down my service for non-payment. Out of total frustration; I went ahead and paid them again today. So they got double the payment for 3 months of service. I will begin calling other garbage collectors to see about changing my service to someone else. Made arrangements for an extra recycling pick up to pick up excess moving boxes. Was told to put out Monday night for pick up Tuesday. They are now still sitting there a week later. My waste hauler in Springfield IL won't even allow my disabled neighbor to leave their trash can lid open for fear of getting his clothes or hands dirty. This issue was even brought to the attention of his supervisor who said he should not have to get his good clothes soiled. In addition, people walk by my trash can in alley & dump their dog waste in my can.......same driver will not empty my trash completely. He will only remove by hand the garbage in actual trash bags because he doesn't want to get dirty.. REALLY????? read more

I want to update my post. After making the post I did receive an email from Republic offering a credit for the missed pick up. I appreciate it but it wasn't really about the few dollars. As I said before all humans make mistakes. It's how you respond to making a mistake that matters. I was very frustrated with the fact that I could not reach anyone during business hours. Even when opting for a call back there was no one one the line the 3 times I received a call back. At the time of my post I was done with them. I received a call a couple of days later from Rick. He said he is an operations manager for republic. He was very pleasant. Prior to calling me he did make sure someone picked up our trash. He gave a a number to call in case it happens again. This is all I wanted . Someone to acknowledge there was an error made and offered a solution. I probably won't be looking to change companies only because of his response. I have had toake the calls to customers before and they are not always pleasant. I appreciate the way he handled it. read more

Big snowstorm in Springfield, Illinois on Monday, January 6, 2025, the day of my residential trash and recycle regulary scheduled pickups! Understandably, no pick-ups that day because of the storm! However, they did pickup our recycle on Tuesday, January 7! It is now Thursday and still no garbage pickup - even though they promised me a Wenesday pickup! While the streets have been drivable in my neighborhood, they still haven't picked up the trash! While mail deliveries are, and have been, running daily as have UPS and Fedex deliveries, they claim that our roads are unsafe for their BIG TRUCKS to drive on! Because they're behind with their trash pickups, I would think that Republic should, and would, schedule pickups for Saturday! At the very least they should have the courtesy to contact their customers about when pickups are scheduled, instead of simply being untruthful and refusing to answer phone calls! I don't understand why they are even a garbage service. After paying for 18 months of service they just decided to stop picking up our garbage and recycling. After weeks of calling and going online to report missed pickups, being yelled at by the local branch and being told that their call center doesn't relay information to the local branch got really annoying. As a customer I was asking for a solution as to why I'm paying for weekly pickups but only get picked up once a month. I was never apologized to or given an answer or a solution. They credited my account for $3 one time though. I ended up calling to cancel my services last week and of course the gal I talked to then was nice and apologetic, which is laughable because they can't expect customers to hold up our end of the deal when they don't. read more

Republic purchased our trash route from a local provider. From the start, the service was awful, not showing up at all, and missing service for weeks at a time. The final straw for us was being up charged from $56 to $188 because they claimed the dumpster was too full. They were even so kind as to show me a picture. The kid was slightly raised, and the trash was not compacted down. I called, expressed my discontent, and was told too bad. Awful business, awful service. Oh, and they continue to 'expand' the drive by cutting ruts further each time from the road. Republic recently bought our small, local trash company. Zero issues with them for 8 years. Now, this huge company with 14,000,000 customers somehow cannot figure out how to pick up my trash or bill me appropriately since we've moved in (60 days). Instead, they continue to bill me for services requested by our previous home's new owner. Over $500. On top of the 6 month $210 bill I already paid. If I could cancel, I would. Instead, I've called 7x about this issue specifically and each time they promise to resolve and call me back. Zero positives - Over-billed, Trash not picked up, Recycling piled in the garage, no customer service, runs you in circles on your own dime. I'd like to recognize the great work of our yard pickup person Antonio. We have a very elaborate landscaping layout, a large yard and several trees. Consequently, we produce a lot of yard waste. Prepaid for 3 months of service per their "rules" and I literally just have piles of trash in my backyard covered in flies, and call in and report missed pickups every morning. They dropped off the cans after a week, but the wrong number of them. Then they sent me a second bill. Literally a terrible company. Besides the number of missed garbage pick ups for our family 6 they won't allow us to pay for a second container every week. Ever been a large family with one container and missed pick ups? The raccoons of the neighborhood love it. I've canceled my service and for TWO WEEKS now my big containers are sitting at the curb waiting to be picked up. That's two weeks we've been told they were being taken care of and here they sit. I even called TWICE yesterday to confirm the pick up and they told me they were coming... did they? Of course they didn't. This company is totally inept or corrupt I am not sure which. They charge over $2,000 per year for a commercial one-large can weekly pickup. If you ever try to cancel the account they require a certified mail to stop their service. They try and string you along hoping you will give up trying to cancel. Once we successfully canceled their service they continued to bill us late fees and service interrupt fees. There is no way to contact the local manager (Springfield IL), he hides behind the corporate call center and never returns a call. BUY LOCAL - Lake Area is charging us $54 per quarter compared to $500. NEVER AGAIN. Update on Jan 8, 2020. Based on this YELP review, I received a response on 12/9 that my account was cleared of their deceptive service interruption charges and associated late fees. Then on 12/13 I received a collection letter from Coast to Coast Financial Solutions. Republic claimed the letter was sent before the account was cleared. They promised to contact the collection company and clear the account. THEY FAILED MISERABLY AGAIN. I have received collection letters on 12/18 and 01/02 demanding payment. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THIS IS JUST A PATHETIC OPERATION TO WORK FOR AND THEIR EMPLOYEES DON'T FOLLOW THROUGH ON THEIR COMPANIES ERRORS. read more

Republic Services is the sanitation service that took over Flowers Sanitation in Virden, IL and the surrounding area. Shortly after they took over they changed their billing schedule from monthly to quarterly "for our convenience". As inconvenient as this was to us, well, sometimes you just have to go with the flow. Recently we received a letter notifying us that there would be an increase in our monthly bill due to a Fuel Recovery Fee and an Environmental Recovery Fee. The letter implied the fee would be an 18% increase. When the next bill came the increase was 51%. There was no itemization to explain this. When we checked the website, there was no help there. When I tried to call and talk to a representative I was on hold for over 54 minutes before I gave up and put myself on the list to be called back.. I'm skeptical as to whether they actually will. I would never recommend this company, in fact I would urge anyone to steer clear of them. Like other reviewers, if I could rate less than one star, I would. We've not been happy with them from the start. I don't know why this says I'm in San Fransisco, CA. I changed that at the start of the process. I am based in Virden, IL. read more

Since the city of Springfield so intelligently decided to contract with this company for yard waste pickup (wonder who's relative benefited from that deal), we have had nothing but trouble with this company. Sure it's free! But you get what you pay for. I would much rather continue paying sticker fees with Lake Area and KNOW when it will be picked up. Instead, we are in a "zone" which only allows for yard waste pickup every other week. Oh--and you don't know what day of the week they will come. If they do. (They have missed us 3 times now.) So you put your yard waste out on the curb Monday morning, and hope they come sooner rather than later. Often, by Friday, you have a nice smelly barrel of rotting yard waste in your driveway. In this latest example, I put it out the week of Sept 30 (our zone schedule). They didn't come the entire week. Had to wait until the week of Oct 14. It was out that Monday morning. Again, they DID NOT COME the entire week. Now that barrel is really ripe. I called this morning. Wanted to know my account number. We don't have one, I tried to explain, it's a city contract. We would not have a contract with them if we had a choice in the matter! Didn't understand what was going on. Now, the second time this happened, I watched as the Republic truck drove right by our house (and the barrel in the driveway) and picked up our neighbor's yard waste--and drove away. This is absolutely the worst deal for Springfield residents. And since it was a "government knows best" decision, we have little recourse or options. Absolute worst. read more

We had a contract with Republic. It was supposed to last 3 years. During that time they increased our monthly charge. Then after our contract ended (with absolutely no notification that a renewal was coming or that it would automatically renew), they hiked our price crazy high. We contacted them multiple times over 2 months in hopes of cancelling our service and got told that we had an additional 3 years contract (that we did not sign) and could not break it. The best they could do was maybe lower our price and then keep increasing it every year until the contract ended. The person we have been trying to work with is incredibly rude and impossible. We found another company with better service for a fraction of the cost and Republic dared to send us an email saying that we have to have the other dumpster removed! STAY AWAY!!!! read more
