Zero stars. Company has great introductory rates ($111/yr), but increases by double, then triple the initial rate, to then nearly 5 times the initial rate($524/yr). Bill was sent after the billing period began so I was unable to chose not to continue at the astronomical rate. I called to cancel service and was on hold for 1 hour and 14 minutes before it simply disconnected me. I mailed in my cancelation with the bill. Still had to call again to cancel and they said I would be sent an updated final bill. I keep getting calls telling me I owe them $524 for a service I canceled nearly immediately upon recipient of the new years bill. Terrible customer service. Terrible business practices. The arena is waste management, but this company is pure trash. Do yourself a favor and use a reputable company right away, you will save so much money and so much hassle in the long run. read more

My wife and I have spent at least 2 hours with customer service with missed pickups etc. After July 4th holiday we have a lot of trash from guests and of course they miss us. Customer service sounds so earnest but nothing gets done. My neighbor finally decided to take his trash to his home back in Detroit area because the Holland service is so bad. read more

Absolutely horrible horrible service and customer service! Would be a negative star review if I could. I called several times about the placement of my trash cans by their men. They placed my trash cans right in middle of my driveway where I was unable to get around them and I live on a relatively busy road with no where to go to get out and move the trash cans. I would like to give this greedy company zero stars, their customer service is terrible the billing department is even worse. they have missed my trash on numerous occaisions and after I called to have it picked up it was not done. The bill keeps getting larger and i am a senior citizen with disabilities and they offer no discounts. I only have a small amount of trash each week 2 or 3 bags. Its not our fault that the trucks use so much fuel. Maybe the company should have invested in more fuel efficient equipment like everybody else did in this century. I have Republic for my home and that is fine. But they have a Dumpster behind my house that belongs to Dr. David Phillips DDS. Someone dumped their trash bags a week ago illegally and now the trash is everywhere. How can they NOT see what a reflection this has on The Dentist office and Republic Services. We use them as a business to pick up in our community of around 135 households. They have done so much property damage that we are having to cancel with them. The driver has no regard for our property. Backing into street lights so many times we had to incase them in cement! Running over curbs-wrecking those, driving into our grasses and lawns. When we call they say do you have witnesses-yes we do, did you make a police report-yes we did, do you have a video-"no we have pics with the truck in the pictures doing the damage and talked to your driver." If I could give Republic zero stars, I would. Republic would consistently raise their rates year after year without warning. We just recently switched to another service provider where we will get both trash and recycle service for half the price Republic was charging for just trash pickup. When we called to cancel, they were willing to negotiate, which we rejected when we knew they would just significantly increase rates again the next time renewal came around. Of course, we had to continue to pay for trash service for a month, and then received repeated invoices for an ADMIN fee, an ENVIRONMENTAL fee, and a PICKUP fee all related to this cancellation, which totaled more than the cost of three months of our new service. We were loyal customers for nearly two decades and recently switched to Veteran Disposal (they've been awesome). We were tired of all the bogus fees Republic added to every bill. When I called to cancel, I was never told about any container removal fee. We later received a bill for $40.31! This is all just for picking up one container. They charged us: $24.20 for Container Removal, a $5.95 Administrative Fee, and a $10.16 Fuel Recovery Fee. Fuel recovery? For a one time pick up? Administrative Fee? For a one time pick up? And, do they ever refund any of us our hard earned money when gas prices go down..of course not...it's unethical really. read more

Is this a coincidence or what? I had the same experience with Republic as Michael from Zeeland. I cancelled my service because their rate has been up going up. I found another company that charges a lot less for the same service. When I told them this they said they will match the price. That upset me even more. If they were willing to lower their price now why did they not lower it before? Does that mean I was over-charged all along? Should I be asking for a refund for all the years we were "over-charged"? A few weeks after I cancelled I got a bill for around $17. I called them and asked them what it was for. They said it was for picking up the cart. After I ranted at them for not informing me at the time of cancellation about this fee they removed it. I am very disappointed at Republic for their rates. I do not understand how they could charge so much ($100) when other companies with the same service charge much less. read more

We cancelled our service after 3 years for a variety of reasons. The curbside trash removal went downhill this summer. It seemed like we were being penalized for using our own can. The driver had to get out of the truck. Often emptied 1/2 the can and left broken bags and trash strewn on driveway. Some disconnect between cust svc and the driver because he would improve but only for a few weeks. We had to send a pic of the cat litter over our driveway. He would throw the bags up on top of the truck but occasionally they would break and he would just look around and leave the mess. The billing was a 2nd primary reason. What we saw on the website bore no resemblance to what we paid or when. The cust svc was nice enough but who wants billing in disarray? I think the company is very disorganized in the last year so we are happy with our new carrier. read more

I had a trash scheduled for pickup on Monday, May 24th because they missed the pickup. I was told a truck would be coming for it the next morning, May 25th, and I would be charged an extra $23.00. Nobody came, I called and they told me I was supposed to be told May 26th (yeah...I'm sure...). I suggested that for the inconvenience of it sitting in the driveway for 3 days, raccoons getting into the bin, etc. after I was told incorrect information by customer service, that the charge of $23.00 should be refunded. I called the company today to see why my bill increased the first lady I talked to explained it a little and said she would transfer me over to someone else to see if it was any available promotions in my area. When the lady answered the phone you can tell she just woke up and had an attitude. I asked her was there any promotions in my area available, She was like so you're trying to get your bill lowered? I was like yes, she was like well the company has to increase or they will not make money. I am guessing you had a really good deal at first. They skipped a week because of the weather, but would not take it off my bill. I was a very long time customer. It did not matter. Republic services seems to have a monopoly in my area. Every time we think we found another company to go with, they have been bought out by republic. They jacked the price of our recent annual bill to $366. They raise the price of their sub par service by $50 every year. Here is my zero star story: Called them today to stop service because I am moving to an apartment that provides trash service. My final day at the old place will be April 27th and that would be the day of the final clean and final garbage. So it would make sense to have garbage picked up after the final clean. I requested Wednesday May 2 as my last pickup date, I was told for just one pick up I would be charged for an entire month. I am informed that my last pickup day would be April 25th, so if I have garbage after April 25th, I will probably have to take it to my work dumpster which makes it a real pain in the neck. Next I wanted to schedule a pickup date for the container, I was told there was a $24 and change pickup fee ! I was also told that they cannot pick it up until May 9th ! This means the container will be sitting here for a full 8 days after I move out ! Sitting there empty for any one to use ! Horrible, horrible customer service ! I started service in 2014 for $12 and change, now it is almost $26 ! They start adding 5, 6, 8 12 cents to your bill every month and it keeps rising. Missed pickups are a real problem with Republic, every time I called to complain I got the same blah blah blah excuses. I told them I want my garbage picked up today on my regular day, well to send someone back out we would have to charge you $40 ! On the day of my regular pick up which I have already paid for ! I could not believe it when I got my bill for residential trash pick up! It went up to $95.41!! And, for yard waste it is up to $62.00!! We have been with them for many years. When I called about it, they gave excuses about gas prices, taxes, etc. Our gas prices are the lowest they have been in a long time! And when the gas prices go down, I didn't see my bill going down! I told them I was going to cancel my service and go with someone else. Their response was " Good luck with that!" Yep. That's what you get for years of loyalty.... We have switched to another trash hauler who is 1/2 of their cost and has an excellent reputation. I could go on about how they sent me a bill for the months I had cancelled and threatened to take me to collections. Let's just say persistence paid off. Called yesterday 5 days later and was told 2 weeks, after 40 minutes and 4 people and that was the earliest. Today saw the pickup guys and asked, they called and got it. They lied several times. I'll tell you a story, with every attempt to condense it if at all possible. Back in 2014 in May a Republic sales rep called at my house and offered us a 'better deal' than our current provider. We'd save around $15 every bill and it would be just as efficient. My wife and I agreed but stated that we had just paid our current provider for the next three months the previous month, and since we had paid for another 2 months that we'd like to honor this service. We asked that this new arrangement start in July. The rep confirmed this would be fine. A few days later, we receive an Republic trashcan. I call up and state the service is not necessary until July, and have them arrange for pick up of this trashcan. A few days later it was picked up. No issues until we get a bill from Republic for service just a week later. It even had the wrong dates down. I call again and speak to someone who was helpful and told me it would be fixed, and this bill was sent in error. A month goes by, and we get the same bill. So frustrated, I call not only to berate them but to cancel the agreement. Again, customer services are apologetic, and confirm that they will cancel the agreement and rescind the bill. The phone call ended in mutual agreement that I owed nothing as no service was given nor required during this period. A few months pass and I get a debt collection agency mail me for the owing for that bill. I call Republic and demand an explanation for why this charge is still open. The agent was unsure but passed the matter onto her supervisor who called me and (again) apologized and would work to fix this issue. After this phone call I considered the matter closed. Cut to 2018 and I decide to run a credit check in order to get finiancing for a mortgage. Despite a very good score, what do I see in red as a debt on my check...? This bill. Outstanding since 2014. I was both angry and upset by it all. I decide to reach out to the debt collection agency and why I've not received ANY correspondence since the original letter. They replied they only send out one letter, and that I must send them an official letter to state why I'm refusing to pay this small debt. Republic are without doubt an absolute shambles of a business. And thanks to their ineptitude and numerous failures it has lead me to product letters to debt agencies to clear my name. Go elsewhere. I've been a customer for 6 years, over the past few months they missed pickup 4 times, when I called to ask why, they scheduled a missed pickup, which came Friday (our trash day is Monday so they might as well just wait at that point). After this happened multiple times I called and asked if we would be refunded for the remainder of our 3 months that we had just paid the previous week if I canceled and they said yes. So i hung up to make sure I could get another trash company. I got another trash company set up and called back a couple days later to cancel and they informed me that since a new month started, they wouldn't cancel the service for another month. If they had told me that on the last day of the month when I called, I would have just canceled then, and would have had my entire payment refunded but now I'm stuck paying for two trash services for this month, because they won't come pick up the can until the first week of the next month, and apparently you have to pay if you still have the can whether you are using it or not. read more

Another update. So after giving this company chance after chance, we decided to terminate our service (they began to miss our trash again). They told us they would charge us a container pickup fee, which is ridiculous considering we were paying for service we were not getting due to them forgetting our trash over and over again. We set up our new trash service and guess what? Republic did not pick up their container on the day they said they would. So our new service didn't leave our new container when they were supposed to because of the limited space, we had to beg our new company to leave the can. I called republic at 6pm and they told me "Well they have until 8pm tonight." I replied well it seems unlikely they picked up all around here already. It took them another 4 days to come and get their full container and we missed our first pickup with our new company. So here we are today with a full container half way through the week because Republic is awful and I'm sure they are still going to try and charge me with a pickup fee on our final bill. read more

Beware of hidden fees!! I originally got this service because I was unhappy with the city trash service. It seemed fine at first, but I wish I would have called around more or read any reviews. Each quarter the prices went up. They are almost double what I pay now. When I cancelled my service they didn't credit my account until a month later and tried to charge me a late fee for not paying for a service I no longer had. Then I was charged $22 to pick up my can which was picked up a week earlier than it was supposed to be. On top of that fee they charged another fuel recovery fee and a fee to generate an invoice! Three weeks service and picking up a can cost almost as much as the entire quarter would have cost. Negative 4 stars for this company. Prices are OUTRAGEOUS!!. Our bill jumped from $87 for 3 months to $104.25 for 3 months!! The 87.00 dollar charge was outrageous enough. Other people in our area all pay different prices, the lowest being $36.00 for 3 months. I called them 3 months ago to see about getting a lower bill and was told there was nothing they could do. When I mentioned other people in our area having lower prices she said they were probably on some "promotional deal". Which was not true. Found a much lower price thru Lakeside, $48.00 for 3 months. Spoke with Republic today and told them how utterly ridiculous their pricing is. Told her when I have called in the past I was told they would not lower my price. She then offered me $49.00 for 3 months but I told her no, because they would just raise my price again in 3 months. read more

I requested a temporary suspension of service during our home renovation and they billed me for 3 months when nothing was provided by them. Terrible customer service when I called to sort this out. Every year the price increases by an obscene amount and I have to spend majority of the day trying to talk to customer service representative to see if there is anyway to lower the price. I hate that the bill comes within the week of the next year's service, which on purpose gives you no time to shop around for a better price. If you call 1-2 weeks before the beginning of next year's billing cycle, they will tell you that they have no idea how much it is going to cost and you just have to wait. This is a very poor business practice and makes me want to switch, just to not have the hassle/horrible anticipation of things to come every year!!! read more

Republic Services takes your trash every week and that's the only good thing. When I called to cancel my service since I was moving out of state they asked for my new address. When I gave it to them they also confirmed my phone number. They said that I shouldn't get a bill since I cancelled within a couple days of my renewal date. Well, 3 months later I received a collections letter stating I owed $17.21. Does a few days really cost $17? They never called or mailed me anything prior to that. I'm a little ticked off about the headache they put me through without contacting me. The customer service said they have no way of contacting individuals if they owe money so they send it to collections. Why did they want my new address and confirm my phone then? They put me through hell for $17. I would have paid it no problem. Also, they never even apologized for my inconveniences after it was paid. Please support your local trash company or WM over this evil company. I hope to cost them more than $17. read more

If you are look to get your trash service here i would look away and go somewhere else. They are thieves and like the other 2 customers with reviews here we had the same experience we moved and cancelled our services they claimed to be giving us a credit for the days we didnt use.....they asked me for all my new contact information such as email, phone number and new address. Seems a little suspicious if we are all clear and they are giving us a credit...well after 4 months of being moved out o get a bill saying i still owe them $21 and if its not paid in 10 days they will send it to a collection agency if you have all my contact information maybe try that before the threat of ruining my credit over $21! So i paid the $21 removal fee of the can yet they refunded me more than that. So if you want you credit in shambles this is the plase for you. read more
