I want to preface this review by saying this is entirely about Republic Services' underhanded business practices and does not reflect on their route drivers who have generally been reliable. I know this list is long, but in three years they've accumulated a lot of reasons to avoid doing business with them, such as: 1. Your rates will significantly increase every year on the anniversary of setting up service, but you won't find out until you get the "annual" invoice. 2. They claim to give you the absolute best price they can, but if you attempt cancellation they offer you a reduced rate. In other words, they are absolutely NOT giving you the best rate they can, so therefor are lying about their pricing. As an example, after my second yearly price increase they gave me a reduced rate that was lower than the first yearly price increase. 3. If you get a reduced rate you have to pay up front to get it, and if you decide to cancel anyway they revoke that reduction even if it's a few weeks later. If you have autopay you will still be charged for the prior increased rate anyway because: 4. When you set up autopay, the minute your invoice posts your payment is "automatically approved", so if you pay your bill prior to the scheduled autopay, you get charged again anyway (see #6). This in turn becomes a credit on your account because they don't reverse online transactions and you have to call and request a refund, which they only do by check. Also, they apply the reduced amount as the credit, not the increased charge. 5. They still charge you when they can't pick up due to adverse weather conditions. They also still charge you if they fail to pick up under normal conditions, and it's up to you to call to reschedule a pick up or get a credit on your account, though that takes threat of cancellation, and they will try to use the bad weather excuse whenever they can. (see #8) 6. They claim their system takes 2-3 weeks to update, so changes to your account won't occur until then and won't be reflected on your invoices, and things like a cancelled autopay will still be active for that period. They also claim they can't make changes to their automated systems, which is another lie since they definitely will update invoices and contact you immediately if you owe them money. 7. They mislead, retain, and "weaponize" information in order to counter complaints and/or shirk responsibility. There's absolutely nothing on their website regarding any of the information outlined in this list. The only way to get this info is gradually through a series of attempted issue resolutions (see #8). Or by reading this entire review LOL! 8. During calls they implement psychological manipulation tactics, primarily in two ways: Fast, unrelenting speech with constant interruptions when you are trying to talk (steamrolling), or attempted sympathy for their daily business struggles to make it seem "personal" so you forget they are a huge, faceless corporation that banks on their customers' ignorance and/or aversions to confounding CSR encounters. Also, it should be assumed you'll be on hold for at least 20 minutes any time you call in. Republic Services' ethics are negligible at best. They are petty, deceitful, and it's quite clear they have little regard for their customers. In my own experience, it took getting the Better Business Bureau involved to get things sorted out because they won't work with you to resolve issues that negatively impact them financially and believe me, they cherish their money right down to the last penny. Thankfully, my bank and the BBB did the job Republic Services outright refused to do, and I was able to recover all funds owed to me. I hope if you made it through this entire diatribe it helps you in making your decision on whether or not to do business with them, to which I'd simply say, just don't! The End. read more

Worst company to work with! Called up before my yearly bill was due, to cancel. They tell me at the time they are sorry to hear that, but there will be $100 fee to collect my bins (that we rent from them!)! They tell me my service is good through the end of the month, no mention of any other fees.... Then at the end of that month, they send me another bill for my service for the month! When I call and question it, they say that's how they work, nothing they can do about it, since I didn't call before the start of the month. I cancelled 8 days before my bill was due, but they will tell you it doesn't matter when your bill is due, they only bill monthly. They didn't send out the old bill until the end of the previous month! I was a customer for 12 years, never again. I had a horrible experience with Republic Services (based out of Muskegon). We called and ordered a 20-yard dumpster for $385 for it to be delivered on 8/14/2025. From our understanding, you have the dumpster for 9 business days. We filled the dumpster by 8/17/2025 and asked them to pickup the dumpster on 8/18/2025. We then ordered another dumpster to be delivered on 8/18/2025 for another $385. They picked up the first dumpster and forgot to drop off the second dumpster. Luckily, they were on it quickly and dropped off the second dumpster that evening. However, this second dumpster was picked up on 8/27/2025, rather than the 9 business day period, so pickup should've been 8/28/2025. We had a whole bathroom gutted that we planned on putting into the dumpster but were never able to. We called Republic Services, and they hung up on us once. We called back again and the lady deactivated our account! We called back yet again and she tried telling us it was part of the paperwork we signed (we didnt sign any paperwork!) and there was nothing she could do. We told her we did not pay an additional $385 for it to be picked up early. She just kept saying there was nothing she could do. All in all, we will not be using Republic Services again after the terrible customer service, the early dumpster pick up, and lack of communication with us. read more

They are the worst . I have 2 trash containers and in July ordered a yard waste container, they charged me 279.00 and not once picked up my yard waste , called and emailed and as of 10/11/2024 same yard waste in there . Paid up to date on my regular trash service but because I refused to pay almost 300.00 for a container that was never emptied , they suspended my regular trash service so I called them and said to cancel all together and pick up their containers and said won't till November, when I told them my regular trash bins are full , the lady informed me I would have to pay the balance , no I don't , I won't pay 300 for yard waste never picked up and an additional 133.00 for regular trash pickup for the months of October , November and December when I am cancelling , that's when the polite customer service went out the window and the expected rudeness started . I should do more research about Republic Service before I signed and used the service! Price started as good, but will increase crazily every year. Even we paid for yearly service, they still sent the additional bill due to service price increasing. I called to cancel their service, the lady told my removal cart fee is $40.70, but they added the administrative fee and total fuel recovery fee on top of it which brings it to $57. 1/15/24 Update to original review on 12/28/23. I was scheduled for recycle cart return pick-up on 1/15/24. I realized that day was MLK holiday so i assumed they would not pick up the cart until the 16th because of holiday. I am very concerned about our environment and that's why i recycle. So after thinking about returning the cart i rethought about just continuing to recycle because it was too important to me. So i called today (1/15/24) to explain i would just like to continue to go ahead with recycling. So i explained to representative that i would rather just continue to recycle and that i didn't put out the cart on the 15th because of the scheduled 15th being MLK holiday. The representative i spoke with (Tamara) said they still do service on the 15th so i would now have to call back tomorrow (1/16/24) to reschedule a NEW pick up date. She also said that because of the scheduled cart pick-up (1/15/24 MLK holiday) that if i decided to continue service for recycling they could NOT give me the same rate now and i would now be charged with a NEW HIGHER rate! She also told me after having to reschedule recycle cart pick up date i could be charged for TWO RECYCLE CART PICK-UP dates!!! But she told me to call back tomorrow (1/16/24) to reschedule for a new pick up date if deciding to just go ahead and discontinue recycling service because i didn't put out recycle cart, thinking because of MLK Holiday (1/15/24), they would have to re-schedule a new pick up date for the recycle cart. So after she told me they would be raising my current recycling cart charge to an even NEW HIGHER rate amount than my current rate i told her then i will just go ahead and discontinue recycling services anyway. All they would have to have done is cancel the recycle cart pick up date and i could just continue on with the same current rate before i decided to cancel recycling!!! If they would have just continued to charge at my current rate i would have just decided to continue to recycle AND gave a higher * review rate! ( Update: 1/15/24) I just called back to Republic and spoke with a girl Shundria because they had already sent a voice message the other day saying if they didn't pick up the cart today, because of weather etc. that they would pick it up tomorrow. She said it did not show that they had been in my area yet today and i could just go ahead and put out the cart again today and if they once again were not able to make it today they would pick it up tomorrow as stated per the message they had previously sent out to customers. Will update if they pick up cart today. 1/15/24 - MLK holiday. Update 1/15/24: They picked up the recycle cart later today. I scheduled services online, paid the deposit, and received a confirmation email. The day after we were scheduled to have our bins dropped off we called to figure out the problem. After talking to 3 different people, the representative said we would have to schedule services over the phone. They wanted to charge us over $60 more to do it that way. We decided to just have my boyfriend schedule services online instead. Drop-off day comes around and nothing. He calls and is told bins can be dropped up until 8 pm AND they inform us that they will not take the bins from the previous home owner UNLESS WE PAY THEM TO. Ok, we're scheduling a dumpster service from a better company in the next couple weeks. We'll throw the current bins in there I guess. I had been a customer for 7 years, each year dealing with another $20-30 increase in cost. This year was an additional $60 and enough was enough. Especially after finding out my neighbors were paying almost half and doing so monthly. So a called, dealt with the normal attempts to try and keep me as a customer, and finally cancelled my services. I was told despite my annual services ending within the month, I was told I would have to pay for an additional month because they couldn't come get the cart that month, but that would be my final bill. Loan behold, the customer service flat out lied and now I have another $60 bill because they picked up the bin. $80 later and I am finally done with Republic Waste, and I'm never going back. My complaint about Republic Services is more about their business practices than service. Republic services on the last bull Doubled their prices without any notice. They also have a very high Environmental service fee. There have been many class action suits against the company for illegal fees. My bill included a late fee, even though I cancelled service and they require a pre-pay for all services. I would not recommend this company to anyone, and write as many reviews as I can to help avoid the same issues I have seen with my time with them. I will say that the service side of this company is just as good as other companies, but not worth the hassle of paying 200% more than others and extraordinary fees. Price started out good, but would get raised every year. On year 5, my bill had increased from $105 the year prior to $191.. for residential trash and recycle! When I called to inquire, they said they could lower to $145 but that was the lowest. Called around and found another company that's only $89.88. Called republic back to cancel and now they could lower to $135. Still cancelled, and then was told it will be $131 to pick up my 3 bins.. $30/bin, plus a gas fee of $25, and "gas and environmental fee" of 18%. When I asked why it's $30 to pick up, I was told it goes toward gas and refurbing the bins.. so 3 different charges for gas? The rep told me I could drop them off myself and it's free. Luckily the drop off is only a couple miles away so I can do that.. but this company just rakes its customers over the coals! Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

The service for pickup is great but the billing department is the worst. I've had this service for years and every year I have to call and talked to someone about my invoice and somehow it always have show a late fee and fee increase. I even tried to pay for the year. Every couple of weeks they miss a pick-up. They changed our day if the week from Tuesday to Wednesday. Since then they miss it more than they pick it up. We call and they say they will pick it up in the next day or two. This past week we put it out on Tuesday night for Wednesday pick up but no service. A call Thursday and Friday, you got it no pick up. Now it's Monday and once again a phone call in which they say it will be picked up by the end of the day.... I get it things happen but it happens all the time with Republic... The worst part is no customer service. They don't work to make it right. They don't expedite service. They don't credit your bill. I've been with them for years, but canceled today, because they continue to get greedier, and bill from another State...takes them weeks to post a payment, or adjust a billing issue, but penalties keep posting. I'd give them zero stars if I could. I had this company for 18 years and this last year has been horrible experiences. From not picking my trash up, saying they'd come the next day but took a week sometimes more. From calling them and having a service member help out but yet did not follow through with their words to then calling back and asking for a manager to have help....but yet no manager was available to talk to and the leaving a message didn't seem to have them call me back either. After canceling pur services, We were told by three of their people that they would pick up our trash bin for our charge....we were charged and no one is calling me back about this either. Two times I have driven to the waste disposal site on Saturday with a load of items from North Holland. Both times the gate was closed. No one answers the phone. The website says they are open yet no one is there. Giant waste of money due to the fact they don't update their hours when closed. I was not the only one.
