Never been a frequent customer of Dillards .. all the years that I have either... Lived in…read moreFlorida... or... visited Florida... Dillards has never been on the top of my shopping list. There CAN be some deals. Sometimes. Many times there are no deals. Housewares, Linens, Luggage, Tableware are all overpriced and sitting at the top of that range that should be charged for these items. You can get many comparable and exact same items elsewhere for much cheaper. Shoes? Very well priced especially for their sale racks. Handbags? Some cute some very well priced and some in the stratosphere. Dillards actually caries real Luis Vuitton handbags and luggage but.... I am not an LV consumer. Clothes... great when there are sales. You have to watch for deals, coupons and price slashing before during and after holidays. I was just recently very successful with the purchase of a makeup bag that is perfect for my trip coming up. Normally I wouldn't pay $48.00 actually $52.00 for a makeup bag but I believe I will keep this one for quite some time. The lady that helped me in the cosmetics section kept me in her "sights" while I was shopping around the entire store... she didn't want to miss getting credit for my purchase. I liked her though... we had a laugh or two.

Paddock Mall - Paddock market area with the kiddie rides.

Paddock Mall

This is the only mall in the Ocala area. Parking wasn't hard to find in the food court area. So I…read moreparked over there and ate at the food court. After eating, I took a quick walk to see what stores are available. The anchor stores had JCPenney, Belks, and Macy. There looks to be another anchor store called Paddock Market, but it doesn't look open yet. Some of the more noticeable answer stores included Bath and Body Works, Lululemon, and Hollisters. I didn't go inside any of the stores as I didn't see any sales that I was looking for. There area some kid friendly activities inside the mall, including the animal scooters, bungee bounce, and kiddie rides. This is one of the few malls where I saw the T-Bone bull ride. There was a sign saying adults were not allowed to ride, but this naughty cowboy still had to mount it. Luckily, no one was there to give stares or yell at me. I also saw mechanical horses at the Paddock Market, so I will definitely mount those as well when that store opens. I didn't really see staff at the mall. Normally Allied Universal security will be present and patrolling, especially after the shooting incident a couple years ago. However, I didn't see them at all today. While this is the only mall in Ocala, as least it looks alive with some patrons roaming and shopping. It's a nice small mall to stop by when visiting Ocala. Overall: B

On the evening of Thursday, April 23, my son and I were sitting having dinner in the food court of…read morethe paddock mall. We were approached by a woman and what I would describe as a small uniform who mumbled something to us, which we couldn't quite understand. She walked on and we continued eating. A short time later, a man wearing the same uniform approach and said rather rudely "Didn't she tell you to move. This section is closed." I asked how I was supposed to know that, and was pointed to some collection of ropes that apparently blocked off one side of the food court, and told "common sense" in a very condescending tone e. We got up and moved, frustrated by the incredibly rude treatment. In this time of reduced foot, traffic and shopping malls, I cannot believe that the Management would want staff to treat customers so rudely. Based on this, I assure you, I will never return to this particular mall. I expect it will probably be closed and turned into a storage facility or something similar in the near future. Well deserved.

DTLR is a national chain of stores focused on urban streetwear with an especial emphasis sneakers…read morewith Nike and Jordan brand the main focus there. Although they do carry plenty of other brands, their selection of Jordans and other Nike lifestyle sneakers as well as the same category of goods by adidas, Puma, Diadora, and Converse are big draws for any DTLR store and let's be real, they're also the main money-makers with Jordans retailing for around $190 on many models. So DTLR has long been absent from Gainesville which I found odd considering their multiple stores in the Jacksonville and Orlando markets but that has just been remedied by the opening of this location. They went into the old Gainesville Shopping Center on Main Street, a decision that made me very pleased because this shopping center, which was one of the earliest in town and once very successful, has gone down in the past couple decades. It still has businesses, yes, but all really are what I call local service businesses--fast food restaurants, a Publix, and things like nail or hair salons. These are not really destination businesses, they cater to people in the neighborhood but won't probably draw in visitors from elsewhere. DTLR however will. It has competition in mall stores like Jimmy Jazz and House of Hoops, but it's unique. It probably would get more traffic in the mall or the new Butler Plaza but it accomplishes the very necessary goal of bringing more businesses to East Gainesville. I really commend whomever scouted out and chose this location for their foresight because not many chains would bother. The store itself is fairly large but their inventory is not on par with some of the higher-volume DTLRs. A chain-wide issue I've noted at DTLR is that they, at least in the scope of streetwear, are trying to be all things to all people at all price-points. So, you have some no-name brands of jeans and the like or store brands, and then you have the newest Jordans or Nike Air drops too--and that goes for clothing as well as sneakers. There isn't enough room for everything and instead of crowding it all in there (thankfully) they limit how much diversity of product they carry in any one area. So, in example, they have Diamond Supply but not much of it. Same with many brands. I hope they'll soon learn what sells at this specific store and streamline the inventory, but for now that's the main drawback: customers familiar with DTLR will find a more limited selection than at some stores. Still the presence of a DTLR in town and the fact they went into an under-served part of Gainesville is very exciting to me.
