RENZO'S BAR, Docklands deserves a good 3.5 out of 5, without a doubt..
"...FABULOUS VISTA.. CLASSY SPACE.. EUROPEAN FEEL.. HARD WORKING CREW.. DELISH ITALIAN MENU..."
My son's 16th Birthday.. Wanted some place a little more 'upmarket.. He wanted a nice steak.. We support the Docklands.. Lots of good people have invested lots of good money on dining venues.. But, still not 'flourishing'.. I don't know why.. Can the eateries hold out.. I sure as hell hope the good ones can or the whole place is gonna turn into a wasteland.. OMG what a tragedy if that happens.. It'll be up to the dining public.. Their dining choices.. Fingers crossed..
WE HONESTLY PREFER DOCKLANDS TO SOUTHBANK - MY OPINION: SOUTHBANK EATERIES, MOSTLY OVER-RATED - DOCKLANDS EATERIES, NEW AND UNDER-EXPLOITED - IT'S A FRONTIER WAITING TO BE EXPLORED - IT CAN BE HIT AND MISS, UP AND DOWN, THUS FRESH AND EXCITING..
Anyway, there are 5 of us for lunch.. Quite a few others dining, indoors and out.. We're seated inside.. White cloth napkins.. Devoted service.. Over the course of 2 and 1/2 hours, we order, eat and drink the following:
Entrees
-1 x Herb Focaccia
-1 x Garlic Focaccia
-1 x Antipasto all'Italiana
-1 x Wagyu Braesola e Pecorino
-2 x Calamari con Rucola
-1 x layered Eggplant and Tomato dish
-1 x fresh Sardine dish
Mains
-1 x Pizza bianca con Patate
-1 x Linguine ai Frutta di Mare
-2 x Filetto di Manzo
-1 x Chicken Salad dish
Dessserts
-2 x Cheesecake al Limone
-2 x Strudel
-2 x Creme Brulee
Coffee
-1 x Espresso
-1 x Cappuccino
-3 x English Breakfast pots
Drinks
-1 x House Red
-9 x LLB's
-4 x Lemon Soda
Okay.. My comments.. All was fresh, visually inviting and for the most part: delicious.. Not the best I've had, but very very enjoyable.. Only disappointment was the Strudel - served cold, not enough double cream to balance the dryness, needed ice-cream to add moisture, creaminess and sweetness.. Re portions - I'd like to see a little more on the plates - they're big plates - some were a bit bare.. Re price - they could go a little lower.. I believe the Groupon Voucher price of $176 plus $74 for extras, $250 total between 5, was very near the mark. Yes, it was worth between $50 and $60 each, but I think I would've resented having to pay more than that..
If you're in the mood for quality clean contemporary Italian - keep RENZO'S BAR, Docklands in mind - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.. AND I KNOW MY ITALIAN.. Ciao cari..
