I did not know that there was a spa behind Shake Shack in Deerfield. Although there is a large parking lot, it was mostly full. I went to get a Dazzle Dry french manicure. As I have had many DD manis this year, I know that the polish is supposed to have two coats, and then the top coat. My manicurist put the tip color first, then one coat only of the polish. The three stars is because I've had mixed experiences at Renu. I've been a skin care client for many years, driving from the NW burbs to Deerfield for quarterly facials. Recently I moved closer to Renu and tried them as my new nail place. After two pedicures and four manicures I have decided to continue my search for a new nail salon. While pricing for facials seems reasonable the pricing for manicures and pedicures seems expensive. A basic manicure and pedicure costs $67 before the tip. While the facials use top of the line products, the nail techs use products from Sally Beauty Supply. They get the job done but they don't support the high prices. In addition, the nail care is not environmentally friendly. Renu uses disposable tools instead of putting reusable tools in an autoclave. Clients have the option of taking the tools used on them home, but let's be honest...if you don't do your own nails at home, how many foot files or nail buffers does one person need to collect. Lastly, my decision to look for a different nail salon is due to the front desk. The woman at the desk is rude and has an attitude week after week. I think she is a family member of the owners. If I'm going to spend $67+ for a manicure and pedicure in addition to $20 weekly manicures I want to be greeted by a happy, polite person who adds to the relaxing experience not detracts from it. Bottom line: Go for an occasional facial, but go somewhere else for weekly services. read more

Came here for a manicure exactly one week after the French manicure from hell (this was a manicure does elsewhere...not at Renu) started chipping on me after 3 days while I was on vacation. Krystyna did a great job on my nails, which I picked a dark purple Dazzle Dry color. They really strive for a clean and sanitary environment here. Tools are kept in an autoclave and all buffers, sticks, emery boards, etc. are either yours to keep or tossed at the end. I also like how there is never any skin-to-skin contact between you and the nail technician. The nail techs all wear latex gloves and lotions are applied through plastic gloves that your fingers poke through. I mean, you do pay a bit more here than your standard strip mall nail salon (my Dazzle Dry manicure was $24.00), but the environment is very nice and having pleasant staff that aren't screaming at each other in a foreign language and knowing the tools haven't been used on a hundred other people makes it a small price to pay. Based on how my nails look now, I would come back here. Let's hope that I'm still pleased several days ahead. ;) read more

Angela did my organic facial and she was AMAZING! She altered the facial to meet my skin needs and it was so relaxing too! She gets a 10/10. I am excited to see her next month for a hydra facial which is her recommendation for my skin. The actual place is outdated. And strong smells of chemical nail polish. They don't accept credit tip (which is fine) but with COVID and the way other salons accept quick pay in Venmo it's disappointing they don't offer that. Very disappointed with my waxing services. Literally one week later I am covered in stubble and ingrown hairs, meaning the technique was very sloppy. My skin was never cleansed before waxing, so I have acne all over my eyebrows, and pretty much everywhere else I have very deep and painful ingrown hairs. I have been waxing myself for many years and have never experienced something like this. I am extremely careful with both before and aftercare for waxing, and follow it to a T, so this definitely should not have happened. Many of the hairs were also just broken, rather than pulled out. My skin was also lifted (if you're not sure what that means, it means it was literally ripped off) on my elbow and forearms. I have had many other wonderful services at renu, but I will not come back for waxing, or if I do, definitely not with the same technician. read more

I had only been to Renu 2 or 3 times and it has been a while. My aunt, mom and sister have gone their recently so I thought hmm why not try and make a last minute appointment. They got me in and it was so easy to book. The salon is quiet and on the smaller side. The lady at the front desk was friendly and welcoming. That's a big deal to me. I had a facial today with Celina. It was perfect. She was perfect. Kind, friendly, genuine, and knew exactly what she was doing. It was very peaceful and my brain had finally stopped. No other thoughts were going through my head but how relaxed I was. Not a care in the world. These days I find more and more people being rude, or unhappy with there job, or life etc, that when you come across someone so kind you have to let them know. I appreciated it so much. Over the years I've been going to Renu for a variety of services with mixed results. I was hoping that under new management there would be greater consistency with pleasing results. I went for a manicure and, first of all, I found the technician to be rather aloof, and, second of all, my manicure lasted less than a week. I would hope that the technician would remember that this is still a service industry and I would like to be treated in a friendly and kind manner. More importantly, however, is that the manicure lasted only about 4 days before the tips of my nails started breaking and the polish was chipping off *update- I did go back for a Dazzle manicure done by Maggie. In my opinion, she was friendlier and the manicure was better than the 1st one. It's been 48 hours and holding, still looks good, no chipping, peeling, or anything else. read more

My only dislike about the place is the owner - who I won't name. She's a wonderful business woman, and it's true the place probably wouldn't be the success that it is without her running a such a tight ship. Break ups are hard to do. So, I finally decided to take the risk and try Renu Day Spa. I have been there a few times now. I think I have found my new place. Marianne is the best esthetician. She is very sweet and friendly. However, she also gets the job done for a wax. My first visit there I have a mani and pedi as well from 2 different people. I thought that was odd, but I don't usually treat myself to mani and pedi so I don't know. I definitely enjoyed the mani more. It was more comfortable and worth the cost. The pedi was in this separate room with these super small portable tubs. I was suppose to get the athletes pedi with a nice massage. Not much of a massage- more of a caress. Bummer. The reception area is quite eclectic and overwhelming but the rest of the spa is homey. It's an old house that has been fitted to a spa. The prices are decent. I have been coming to this spa for a few years now and always have a great experience. I go there for massages, manicures/pedicures and facials and always come out feeling great! The only negative comment would be regarding the owner. I have heard her yelling at her staff when she didn't know I could hear. I have also heard stories from others that she constantly yells and them and tells them that we (the clients) only come there for HER and not for the technician and if they ever leave, that we (the clients) would never follow them. She tells her technicians if they don't like it then they can leave. How is that an appropriate way to treat your employees that make you plenty of money?? And she never commeds them for doing a good job and/or keeping the clientele happy. In fact, I heard it's so bad that one employee spoke with a lawyer about the way she treats them, and the owner ended up firing her immediately. If my favorite technicians left, I would definitly follow them to wherever they went, as they are the ones who keep me coming back. read more

We will give this place another try in the near future! -------- If the owner is reading this, I highly suggest you train or fire the older blonde lady with shorter hair that works at the front desk. She was super rude, was obviously only concerned with when the place was closing and not the customers. My husband and I went in for a couples massage and were not told ahead of time that tips could only be paid in cash. When I mentioned that she says "it happens and we close at 5 so..." (Our massage ended at 445). We liked the 2 ladies we had for our massage. They were very friendly and the only reason I have this 2 stars. Once finished, my husband goes to run to the bank next door and get cash while I pay. The lady looks right at me and claims "they didn't pay!" Obviously she paid no attention to me an hour before or she would have realized I was his wife. I said "I'm right here, I am paying". No apology just more rude bahavior. I just had my first service here - a swedish massage - and thought it was terrific. I was particularly tense and asked for deeper pressure and more attention to my upper back and shoulder area. Isabela (my therapist) did a great job finding the knots and working them out. Her pressure was just as I asked - deep - and I appreciated that. This was where I got my first french manicure and I always compare other salons to this place. Although its expensive, i've always gotten a perfect french manicure no matter who did my nails. This salon was the place to go whenever a big event came up, from homecoming, to prom, to weddings. Not only does the manicure look perfect, it lasts for a long time too and after you walk out of the salon, the polish is dry enough to do your everyday work, probably because of those dryers they have. They treat you with kindness and respect and offer refreshments. I've even had a situation where I had a broken nail and they made my french manicure look as if my nails were fine!
