My Experience with Detroit construction solutions LLC DBA Renovations Now: A Breach of Trust and Contract When I hired Renovations Now for a bathroom renovation project, I expected a smooth and professional experience based on the contract we signed. The agreement clearly outlined the payment terms, specifying that I would pay: * 25% as a down payment * 25% on the project start date * 50% upon completion The First Red Flag: Unauthorized Payment Withdrawal Despite these clear terms, I later discovered that the company had withdrawn 75% of my loan funds upfront--three times the agreed-upon down payment--without my knowledge or authorization. Which also put my loan account in the negative $91. At no point did they inform me of this significant financial transaction, and I was never given an explanation beforehand. I just received a notification from synchrony bank saying my first payment was due, before the job was even scheduled for a start date. This was how I found that they had taken 75% of the total balance for said job. To be clear, this was $16,500. This unexpected withdrawal violated the contract, disrupted my financial planning, and raised serious concerns about the company's integrity. When I reached out for clarification, I did not receive a reasonable justification for why they took such a large sum upfront, nor did they provide any documentation showing that I had agreed to this change. Just excuses, arrogance and lack of accountability. I was told it was a mistake made by Steve Walther(Sales associate/project manager) whom clearly was their scapegoat. Because Steve did in fact seem like a stand-up guy! Lack of Communication and Accountability Following this discovery, I attempted to contact the company multiple times to resolve the issue. Instead of providing a transparent explanation or acknowledging their breach of contract, I was met with delays, vague responses, and a lack of urgency in addressing my concerns. I requested: 1. A breakdown of the charges and an explanation for the excessive withdrawal. 2. A refund of the unauthorized amount so that the agreed-upon payment schedule could be followed. 3. Confirmation that the contract would either be honored correctly or canceled due to their breach. However, these concerns were not taken seriously, and I was left in a position where I had to take further action to protect myself financially. Ryan Marsh, the owner, was extremely rude and condescending. He argued with us for 4 hours total, Over the phone and via text with his partner Jason Howland. They are attempting to strong-arm me into getting a job done by them that I no longer wish to have done by a company I cannot trust and no longer want to work with. Ryan also stated that he has my money, doesn't plan to give it back, and I could either get the job done that wasn't even scheduled or on the books yet, or I'd have to lose out on my 16,500$. DETROIT CONSTRUCTION SOLUTIONS LLC DOES BUSINESS AS RENOVATIONSNOW. Ryan and Jason both have checkered pasts that seem to be following them to this day. I don't hold anyone's past against them! People do change, but the truth is, not everyone does. I just want my loan money back and to move on from this situation, but they refuse to give it back and do the right thing. They took advantage of me and lied about materials already being ordered from a wholesale company, then later admitted they were ordered through Lowe's. Lowe's has a 90 day return policy. They could easily return the materials, but said it wasn't possible. Please help me spread awareness to others, these men are not good people. Ryan said he owns a multi-million dollar company, but needed my $16,500 loan up front to buy materials? Sounds like they're hard up for cash and desperate for work/money! BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! Their few bad reviews are very real and very valid! If you look into their reviews closely, a scary amount of their positive reviews are from of their own employees. Some even leaving more than one under different accounts!

Barrett Building Company is a great example of what all construction companies should strive for…read more They're reliable, trustworthy, respectful and hard working. We found they provide all the benefits of a large construction company; experience, extensive knowledge and customer references but with the benefit of working with a small company. You don't have to worry about a random crew showing up to complete your job. Jim, the owner, is present at every job to ensure you're satisfied and his crew has been working with him for years (it is a family business after all). BBC has completed a variety of small to large projects for my family. My favorite project was the full restoration of a 1963 vintage camper we purchased that was in terrible shape. The interior was completely gutted and needed a lot of TLC - new flooring, side paneling, bedroom, kitchen table, counter tops, etc. The exterior was also in bad shape - requiring sanding, repairs, painting, etc. I've included before and after pictures so you can see the amazing transformation. Our family is SO happy with our "new" camper and recommend Barrett Building Company to anyone looking for a reliable contractor at a fair price!

On February 26th of 2025 I contacted S & D Construction to remodel the bathroom in my home. Stephen…read moreMalloy and his crew had previously helped us with the remodel of our porch, so we felt comfortable using the company again. The initial contract/ quote was for $9240 for completion of the remodel. The bathroom was completely gutted to repair water-damaged walls and install new plumbing. A person who worked for Stephen came to do work, but at the end of 1 week it seemed no work had been done. We asked Stephen about this, he said he would talk to the man who was to do the work. For most of the next week no one showed up to do work on the project, and we did not hear from Stephen. We also did not know anything about what was to happen with the plumbing issues. For the next two weeks small amounts of work was done, but no substantial progress was made. When he did finally call back, he said he had fired that man and was partnering with another construction crew to complete the job. He would need an additional $6,000 to complete the plumbing. He was to give this total to the plumbing crew directly. The second crew began on March 27th, Stephen stated that we did not need to pay any more money to complete the job. At this point, our only full bathroom in our home had been un-usable for 1 month. The job was going way over quoted time and budget. The bathroom project was finally completed on May 16th by the second crew, including plumbing. However, the plumbing was a very involved process and had leaked frequently. The plumbing in the bathroom had affected the kitchen ceiling below. At this point, we had stopped hearing from Stephen completely. On July 6th I called the plumbers back because there was leaking from the bathroom again. I was told that the plumbers could not come back to fix the current leak, they had not been paid the $6,0000 we gave to Stephen in March. I believe the $6,000 should either be returned to me, or given to the plumbers as planned.

So this is my opinion on your professionalism and by your back and forth I'd be right. We hired Larry for a kitchen remodel and it seemed like he had good reviews. We had another…read morecontractor out to the house who was very knowledgeable and professional, but only hired Larry because the quote came in lower. Now we seriously regret it. His work was sub-standard at best. His quote was at 3,500 originally, for a tiny kitchen, but when it was time to write the check we were charged an extra $650 in materials. We purchased all of the materials except some wood trim. I don't think mud, and screws, and a little bit of trim warrants $650, an extra charge that we were not informed about in advance, or an itemized list of what materials that he used to justify the extra costs. If screws, mud, and some wood trim warrants a $650 charge he must base his prices on what the government charges people which is seriously over inflated and ridiculous! I asked simple advice during the cabinet install and his excuse quoting him was " I'm a contractor not a designer". I never asked him to design our kitchen. The other contractor came out and actually designed the kitchen even before we hired him. We had a few cabinets that needed to be returned to Home Depot, which all contractors do. His excuse was " my truck is full I can't help you". Also our refrigerator was moved around the kitchen and both handles are now broken, possibly leaving us with having to replace it. The wheels on the refrigerator suddenly stopped turning because there was so much debris under them they seized up because of the lousy clean up of the floor was. Larry installed the new sink, and all new sinks come with garbage disposal covers, and he didn't even look for it in the box, therefore it was not installed leaving us to get someone else to install it. So I found out his honesty level is extremely poor, his work is cheaply done, and his attitude is unprofessional at best. His personality is over inflated just like his material costs! I only paid it because we were so fed up at that point with all of this mess, we just wanted to get rid of him! I asked him how much a tiny backsplash would be , just for my own curiosity and entertainment, and he came in at $2,500! He seriously thought I would even consider that after all the happened! Well, we cheated out hiring a contractor who did sub-standard work and broke our refrigerator handles, and left gouges in our new cabinets, and with a terrible attitude, besides other things. Never do that again! It was well worth hiring the other contractor, who would have done everything for us. We are seniors and my husband has Parkinson's and other health issues which he clearly seen. I would never, ever recommend him to anyone! One star is actually too good for him! Do yourself a favor, do your due diligence when hiring a contractor!

My husband reached out to Done Rite and was told he didn't service our area and wasn't sure he could totally do what we needed. Okay no problem. He said he'd come anyway since he had some open time and we greatly appreciated it, it had been tough to find a reputable and reasonably priced plumber. Larry is the owner, my husband spoke with him over the phone. He said he wasn't sure he could do what we were asking but said he would come anyway. My husband plumbed commercially many many years ago. With work and our kids, our plates are very full so we decided to hire this portion of our basement reno out. We were definitely happy we got somewhere who was available and seemed to be pretty personable and friendly. Larry told us his prices and we accepted them. Larry came by with 3 other guys, so total 4 guys including Larry. One guy attempted to do the work while Larry and the others stood around watching. When my husband realized they'd need some assistance he jumped right in to help. The other guys Larry brought were very friendly and nice, a far cry from what we've experienced before. Larry literally stood around and watched the one guy work, not giving any direction, smoked a few cigs outside our walkout and answered phone calls while these young and obviously inexperienced plumbers tried their best. One guy had more knowledge but you could tell he was still learning. Hours began passing and we realize this is not going to get done quickly if my husband doesn't help. Being the person that my husband is, he steps in to assist the obviously stumped guys at what else to do. My husband then had to say to Larry hey man why don't you get started on that section while these guys finish up here? Literally so much time was wasted. My husband ended up sweating some of the lines himself so they could be done faster smh. After all that Larry's sweating was poorly done to say the least. Finished product looked terrible. Then when we got the bill it was almost $700! And Larry did one copper pipe!! What a waste of money and he still charged us. We pay because we're honest people but we were not happy. We felt taken advantage of big time. Then a pipe starts leaking. We called Larry back, they had just left so we tried to catch them before they got too far. Larry sends back the one guy who did more of the work to fix the pipe. After the fixed issue, Larry asked if he can charge us for another hour! What a waste of time and money. It took them from 9am to close to 3/4pm to finish this job. And it would have taken longer if my husband hadn't stepped in and started telling them what to do. My husband did about 70% of the soldering. Larry's way of doing business is a sham. There is no way we should have been charged so much for him doing ZERO work and then he wanted to charge us $100 more after they had to come back and fix something. Of course we were not paying him anymore money for him to stand around while his worker tried to figure out what to do. The others who were very pleasant, looked lost and Larry gave them no guidance whatsoever. He definitely ripped us off. We should have just stopped them at 2 hours smh. Once we realized Larry was leaving these guys to just figure this out, my husband stepped in. Being nice and we got taken advantage of. Lesson learned. The one star was for the guys being friendly and coming to our area. Update: we now have a leak smh
