Phil went out of his way to resolve this problem, which saved us the stress of either doing it ourselves or finding another lot. He gave us some great ideas that saved us money without sacrificing quality. The workmanship of Phil and subcontractors were super. They were easy to communicate with and very courteous. Our home was completed on time as scheduled. Really impressed when we saw the completed job. Upon finishing the job our house was ready to move in. No litter left behind.

Three months later, I am still waiting for issues to be resolved, with limited to no communication from the company. Multiple doors and drawer fronts were manufactured in the wrong sizes and need replacement. Four additional doors were finished incorrectly. To make matters worse, the hardware holes throughout the project were drilled crooked, causing doors and drawers to be visibly misaligned. The installers were friendly, but friendliness does not make up for poor workmanship, lack of quality control, and inadequate follow-through on warranty and service issues. Had I seen a review describing these kinds of problems before hiring this company, I would have looked elsewhere. In my experience, the biggest issue appears to be the new ownership and the decline in quality and customer service that has followed.

Given that, we agreed to a deposit of $250 for him to go ahead with a formal quote, per company policy. When the proposal came back, it was $45K, which is more than double what we had discussed. While I understand that quality work and materials are costly, I don't understand how his verbal estimates were so grossly inaccurate, especially when he said he's been working there for 18 years. While I understand the deposit was intended to cover his time in gathering the estimates, and that he "doesn't work for free," a large part of his job is properly estimating potential costs for potential clients, and he did not do that. We agreed to the $250 deposit based on incredibly inaccurate numbers, and when I requested our deposit back, we were denied (twice.) While I don't think it was his intention to be deceptive, we felt swindled out of $250. I was very disappointed that they weren't willing to refund us.

From the initial walk through to the final touch ups, this company did an outstanding job. Let me give you a quick overview of how easy it was to work with these contractors. First, the initial sales person, Michael, was incredibly knowledgeable and able to see the vision we had for the first floor. He took a good number of photos and then met with other project managers at their office. From here, we met with an amazing designer, Halley. She answered every question I had and promised me she would guide me along the way. I had some ideas, and everything I forgot, she gently guided to a solution. I was able to pick everything from the exact sink and faucet, to backsplash and flooring. The amazing communication continued throughout the project using an app called buildertrend. We knew when the contractors were arriving for each step of the process. We were also able to ask questions through the app and received quick responses. I did have a couple of change orders, and even those were handled seamlessly. My project has been done now for about three months, and every day I love seeing the finished project.

I could never in good conscience recommend Rucon Construction to anyone wanting to build or remodel…read morea house. Building our dream home turned into a nightmare of epic proportions.... To the point that I can't even feel happy about living in the home, now that it is complete. Their subcontractor made recommendations counter to established design criterion and basically ruined my 4 acre yard. The resultant fix will mean I won't have a yard for my kids to play in for another year. A 1000-2000K estimate suddently turned into a $6700 bill... post closing. Without a word of explanation, they expected us to accept their overcharges. And they were unable to handle simple problem solving. God forbid you make any changes to materials during the building process- they couldn't adapt. At one point after their sub had spraypainted orange marks on the basement floor, which needed to be cleaned, they suggested WE come in and do the work ourselves. With a carcinogenic cleanser & no proper protective equipment. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Absolutely horrid communication. Outright lies. And utter incompetence. That is what we got from Rucon. Oh-- and a house that makes me sad every time I think about it. Please-- If you are even considering giving Rucon any of your hard earned money-- reconsider. This builder USED to be reputable. I've talked with home owners who were happy with the company when it was run by the parents. Now that the sons are at the helm...
