While I appreciated their history, classic look and the fact that they were still in good shape, it was clear they needed to be updated. I contacted several window companies around town, both local and national establishments. After being put off by some of the high pressure, in person sales tactics other places had, I found the approach that Brian and his team at Zen Windows very refreshing. I also saw that they were voted Best in Charlotte by Charlotte Magazine in 2020, and I wanted to support a local business if I could. Brian was very generous with his time, and it only took a few phone calls with him and a quick visit from his installer to get measurements for them to have all the information they needed. I was impressed with how simple and straightforward the process was. Another huge selling point was that I wouldn't have to pay anything until the job was complete, a big difference from other companies. The turnaround took about three months for the windows to be built, but I would chalk that up to COVID, supply chain issues and increased demand for home projects because of the pandemic rather than anything on Zen's end. Quoted turnaround times at other businesses were similar. Once the windows were ready, Zen sent a simple three man crew to my home to perform the installation. Each gentleman on the crew probably had 30-40 years of window installation themselves, so as a team they were pretty capable. In just two quick morning sessions, my windows were complete! I'm extremely happy with the end result. The windows are fantastic, incredibly easy to use, they look great (black exterior FTW), and I can already tell they perform much better than the old ones. Their bid was not the least expensive, but was reasonable and we felt confident in the product they offer and the service they would provide. Time-wise it took much longer for the windows to arrive after placing the order, but hey, that's 2021 for you and while I don't think anyone expected it to take as long as it did, there was an understanding up front that due to the WuFlu hysteria, it would be impossible to predict the future. Go in with realistic expectations based on the current state of the world... this isn't the fault of Calvin and company at Energy Masters Direct. Once the windows had arrived and Shannon confirmed the delivery, they scheduled 3 days for installation a couple of weeks out. They showed up on time, and got the job finished in a day and a half. Having a half dozen workers on the job made it go surprisingly quick. Everyone was friendly and respectful. Installation appears neat, the windows look and operate great, and opting for the colored exterior really improved the look of the house vs. what it would have been with the basic white windows. So..: I'm going to be blunt and completely honest. I had a problem with clear choice…read moreconstruction. Apparently a prior job refused to pay them and it trickled down to my job. I couldn't contact them and I was for sure I got scammed. I went as far as to go to the police and contact an attorney who told me realities of recouping money. But here's the deal. The policeman went and talked to them and came back to me and told me the truth. They had a job fall through and this cascaded through many people. Is it right I couldn't contact them... NO. But he made me see it another way. They were scared. They didn't have our deposits as most contractors use one jobs money for another and it's a house of cards. That's reality of this business. These people made a mistake, but in his words, they weren't trying to commit a crime. And don't kid yourself... almost any mom and pop business is one job away from this happening. So I had 2 choices. Get mad, sue them, keep the police involved or I could work with them. Option 1 might feel good for a minute but option 2 allows me to get my windows and take a little off their plate. So, he had them call me. And with some brutal honesty on both sides we were able to come to an agreement. They could keep my deposit as labor and I'd purchase the windows myself (through them because I'd pay a fortune and don't have a license with manufacturers). And that's what we did. In the end it cost me almost the exact same as originally quoted. 3 weeks later my windows arrived and they promptly put them in. They look wonderful and they did a magnificent job. I have zero complaints and am happy enough to tell this story and try to help them out. Look, I wanted to believe the worst and almost let my anger take me down the option 1 road. But it wouldn't have benefitted anyone. A little compassion and a bit of honesty allowed both of us to win. I recommend you use them. Their workmanship is top notch and they are just trying to recover from a job gone bad.

I put feelers out for repair referrals on Next Door, and Door Medic was referred. I texted the number and got an immediate response with relevant questions and, with the pictures sent, I was given a quote. Dan came out on Friday morning, keeping his quoted time, and sending me a text when enroute, as requested. He arrived, gave it an inspection, assured that the previously quoted rate was still a go, then, got to work. Down to letting us know that cash is best because it keeps him from having to charge a credit card fee...he is a class act. We even needed one wheel, as one had been lost under some stuff in the garage...yes, our garage is adulting appropriate. He had one with him and didn't charge us for this part. Not saying that would be applicable for all, after all he is in business, this is just what he did for us, and no, I never met him before this day. More than fair, professional, and knowledgeable! He even gave us heads up on a couple of things that would likely need repaired at some point, but, was honest about us not needing to spend that money right now. Don't trust any of the reviews - I accidentally submitted it because it though there were multiple steps. I've resorted to coming here since this is unethical and others should be wary. I recently bought a home and the representative said that since I wasn't listed on the county site yet, I would need to share closing documents to book an appointment. I told her I didn't want to share closing documents with them as that has sensitive, non public information in it and preferred to wait to book an appointment until the county site was updated with my name. She argued with me and accused me of not being the homeowner simply because I wanted to wait so that I could avoid sharing non public information. When I told her my preference again, she told me she would cancel the appointment and hung up on me before I could respond. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing behavior. Not to mention that both the person who originally answered and the woman who hung up on me had bad, garbled audio and I could hear loud typing the whole time. Hire some polite representatives and get them a decent headset. Perhaps I should have seen this coming when I was offered $100 gift card to book an appointment- they reek of desperation.
