There were samples of watermelon and cantaloupe out for trying, and I found myself with an Indiana watermelon in my cart, plus local peaches and tomatoes. My husband called my attention to the pies, donuts, muffins, and fry pies. I could smell that Green Acres bakes/fries some of their sweets, while they sell goods from other businesses. He bought a blueberry donut and Amish fry pie, and of the two, the blueberry donut was the better buy. Green Acres not only frosted it but also added some blueberries on top. Not bad! Though they didn't make it into the cart, Green Acres also carries meat, eggs, flowers, soaps, succulents, adirondack chairs, and decor for your yard. While this won't be in my regular rotation, I'm grateful to know that Green Acres is available. I may pop in during the fall for pumpkins.

They have deliveries from a local baker as well that makes fabulous sour dough (Laughing Tree). They have also expanded their offerings on speciality cheeses and health products. Hansen Foods brings in produce from local farmers as well as canned goods from local producers. Prices are competitive especially for a small store. They're a little higher than the major grocery chain but it's nice to support local businesses. Staff are friendly and the owner wants to accommodate and evens does some special orders if a product is low or out of stock.

Yes indeedy, and at remarkably fair prices! Gardening implements, trees, bushes, seed, they have it, all of it at very fair prices, Northern Michigan or not. They also have a very nice farm market where they have local produce and other items. Yesterday, I got some lovely local asparagus at .99 cents a pound. Yes, that's right, .99 a POUND. I also picked up a beautiful local blackberry jam for about $3.00, a loaf of fresh baked bread, and an addictive house made snack mix loaded with slivered almonds, pepitas, sesame sticks and other goodies.. In addition, they have refrigerator cases loaded with cheese, beverages, etc. so it's a good place to stock up for a road trip. A great stop on your way up North or on your way home. We purchased a package with 8 Ginger Snap cookies and also purchased a Cherry Pie. The pie was 20.00 and it was pretty heavy, hmm, loaded with lots of cherries you think ??? Cookies were 5.70. Ladies were very sweet and appreciative of our purchase. We both had a cookie for the drive home, husband loves these cookies and they were fresh, moist and darn tasty.
