The best apple cider donut with cinnamon sugar.
Renee J.

I finally stopped in at the Nelson's Farm, after passing it every weekend when we visited Newaygo. Huge choices of locally grown produce. But it is their bakery that wins them 5 stars. Where to start? My adult daughter who considers herself a donut tasting expert, says Nelson has the best donuts ever. We recently did a side by side comparison of Schwalliers farm apple cider cinnamon donuts. The schwalliers donut was bigger and denser, but the smaller fluffier Nelson's market had more taste and a dozen is less than $7, compared to Schwalliers $1.00/donut. A gigantic apple cinnamon pecan roll for $2.25, more lime a small coffee cake with cream cheese frosting. Not too sweet. So big, it usually gets its own box. Always fresh. Their turnovers are flaky crunchy outside and not tooo tart nor too sweet filling. I find their fruit Danish is easier to eat and share, just as delicious as the turnovers. Their long john donuts are custard filled donuts that are to die for....and they stuff a ton of custard into the small or normal size. I bought apple blueberry small bread loaf $1.99, for my mother-in-law, because I didn't have time to bake her something. She was surprised at the quality. I am looking forward to enjoying all of their baked goods.

If you live near here, I'm so jealous. Mum's and pumpkins galore and they were really good prices…read more They had some mums for $3 and the same size up the street at Walmart were $13. They also had deals depending on how many tou got. They had every type of pumpkin you could think of in every shape, color and size. Not that I could take one on the flight home, but I did get a mini yellow one - I couldn't resist. They also had variety of produce like apples and Michigan blueberries and baked goods and homemade items like soaps and candles. Definitely worth the stop if you're going by.

Green Acres Farm Market may be worth the stop, if you purchase other items than what I did!…read more Cashier was very nice, friendly, and for a farm market, they have an extensive collection of items! If you are staying in the area, it is possible to purchase several full meals of groceries here. But, nearly everything I purchased was not good. The jams/jellies? Why are they not Michigan made? I bought 2-3, 1 leaked on the car ride back home, the other did not have good texture or flavor at all, which is disappointing, as it is Raspberry Rhubarb. The honey was the worst local honey I've ever purchased anywhere. Maybe because it was my first time trying creamed honey? The apples were overpriced, but I needed them. Taste and quality was decent. We wanted to purchase a small wooden windmill, but the price was ludicrous, I think it was $300! Locally, maybe this is the place to go for plants. Maybe it's the place to go for produce. I know it's not the place to go for anything in a jar. I'd rather drive to Holland for the Farmers Market or to Harvest Health Foods. If I'm in the area again, I'd give the another try, to test a bigger array of their items!

Overhiser Orchards - Picked some fresh blueberries

Who knew there were SO MANY varieties of blueberries? Obviously Overhiser, because they've planted…read morefields and fields of them so they can supply the nation AND created rows and rows that you can explore at their u-pick site! What fun it was to learn about the differences and then have a chance to stroll down the rows, hunting the most ripe and tasting along the way. The descriptions offered by the staff were spot on, and we really enjoyed the whole experience. The price is a real value as well because you get the experience itself, a chance to taste it all, and you leave with a TON of berries. Well, not literally a ton but you know what I mean. The small bucket is a lot, and we had four kids picking, so you do the math! Across the street is their bakery, creamery, and farmstand where you can also see the berries being packed for stores all over. The creamery offers some exceptional flavors and yes, free samples too. In fact, there are free samples throughout the store of jams, jellies, salsas and more. This is a great way to enjoy a few hours and reward yourself for the hard work of picking so many berries! Highly recommend.

Prices are reasonable and the staff is extremely friendly. Try the slushie drink (peach was a standout) and donuts! Actually all of the baked goods we tried were delicious. Second trip and well worth it! Also, clean bathrooms!!
